It can be said that the game is made for players to start over, but it doesn't seem like a fair or enjoyable trade-off that a person should be willing to go back to square one of the story mode as a result of experimenting with and enjoying the item-crafting.
Dead Rising fans - you know who you are - are going to love this game. If you still bust out your copy of the 2006 original, do yourself a favor and pick this up.
The thing about the Dead Rising series is that it's pretty unique. Killing hordes of zombies with a huge variety of improvised weaponry isn't a genre present anywhere else. It's a great game to just mess around in, picking up random clothing, smashing zombie heads in and fighting away psychopaths.

[copied from my old account) I really don’t understand the people who hate this game, because as someone who is obsessed with zombie media, I can confirm, this game is pure gold. Not only is it a super fun zombie-slashing game with a fantastic storyline, but it’s also hysterical. This game doesn’t take itself seriously and it’s absolutely amazing. You can literally beat up zombies with a giant, pink, plush elephant. It’s funny! Everything possible is a weapon in this game. Cardboard box? Weapon. Mannequin? Weapon. Trolly? Also a weapon! 10/10, a super fun time.

Game is pretty good I'd say, series as a whole except the fourth entry is solid enough though I prefer 1 and 2 myself. Time limits aren't that bad, survivors can be annoying at times but here in 2 they're probably the easiest while still being actual escorts unlike 3. Story is alright for what it is, characters are a bit of a mixed bag whereas the first game's cast were a bit more engaging but none of these characters are bad. Overall I actually prefer the controls in DR1 and the gameplay as a whole but 2 is good for people needing a softer point of entry. Plenty of time to explore the map and do missions once you actually familiarize yourself with the map. Just go for different endings across multiple playthroughs, don't expect to do everything in the first run unless you're doing co-op with a more experienced friend or following a good guide. lol

Like Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, this Dead Rising is no mere comfort food. It's skillfully made-to-order for people who are hip to zombie mythology, who don't think of Doom or Daikatana when they hear the name "Romero".

Dead Rising 2 is impressive with its carefully crafted plot, new features, and increased scale, making it an interesting option to the rest of the zombie killing games on the market.

With multiple playthroughs in mind, Dead Rising 2 may provide all the gaming you need this holiday season. There's no way you'll be able to do everything in one shot. Going back to Fortune City with a better grasp of the map is only going to make things more enjoyable. Kill, Chuck, kill!

By not changing too much from the original template Blue Castle Games have ensured that Dead Rising 2 will likely elicit as divisive a response as its predecessor. Which is fine because Dead Rising 2, a bundle of contradictions with a neat line in bespoke weaponry, isn't an easy game to love at all. Take the plunge though, and you'll find one of 2010's most singular, bloody-minded, and fascinating videogames.

Dead Rising 2 softens some sharp edges of the first chapter and introduces a fistful of new ideas. Despite some technical issues, this is a very good sequel for a very good series... good work Blue Castle!

A videogame that, though potentially excellent, doesn't have much reason to exist, and scuppers itself time and again through silly design decisions. [Issue#64, p.84]

Hamstrung by clumsy mechanics, this game was unfortunately destined to disappoint; which is a pity when the conceptual framework was so promising.

Es un videojuego con una buena variedad de objetos y combinaciones que ayuda a entrenarte con la distinta forma de matar a los zombies, pero el movimiento del personaje es muy pesado y la forma de apuntar es muy mala

Dead Rising 2 is a very good sequel to the first Dead Rising. It's mechanics are very similar, with a few changes here and there. Generally, I can tell that Capcom choose to act safely with production of this game, not taking any chances with any dramatically big changes that could not appeal to the fans of Dead Rising 1. The problem is, that Dead Rising wasn't an excellent game and had many flaws, and the sequel was the perfect occasion to try to fix this by some dramatic changes. All in all, you could probably read some Dead Rising 1 reviews and you would exactly know what is wrong in Dead Rising 2.

Wow.... No wonder Xbox gave this one away for free.... This game is always taking you out of the action with loading, cut scenes, and random instructions popping up on screen. I played for 2 hours and that was enough for me. No auto save... If they paced it better it may have been playable....

My opinion on DEAD RISING 2 is full of disappointment towards this. Dead Rising back in 2006 was a new and unique take on a video game although I don't rate that too highly either. Sure there is fun to be had in this comical sandbox, but underneath this fun lies clunky controls and a frustrating frame rate considering games such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption can make huge game worlds look nice and smooth this game can't even make a little setting such as this look good. But does it have a good story?, you ask. No, the story is absolutely atrocious and quite possibly the worst thing about the game simple and ridiculous, the man sets out on a mission to save his daughter who with out this thing pathetically called Zombrex (the cure) will turn into a zombie, so he needs to hurry doesn't he? Apparently not, along the way he still has time to go in shops and wear silly little outfits which is preposterous, absolutely preposterous, or perhaps he secretly wants his daughter to die, well that's the best I can think of to redeem this crumby story. There is a mine-ute amount of fun to be had but too repetitive in the long hall. There are fun weapons to use and outrageous ways to kill the zombies but gets boring very easily. The competitive modes are fun and about the best feature in this game. If you enjoyed the first one then what I've just written shouldn't matter but those who were disappointed in the original one will not feel any different towards this. Summary: Fun at first but becomes repetitive and boring with a terrible story that is simply not up to standard considering a lot of games around these days. The biggest disappointment for me is that in four years nothing has changed and that quite frankly is not good enough, simple as. It gets a four because it is unique that is the only thing this has going for it.
