Costume Quest ultimately fills the same void as the candy filling the kids' buckets: it tastes good, but it's not terribly filling.
Despite all the the good premises, this last game from Tim Schafer proves to be a small project with short and repetitive gameplay.

Costume Quest is a fun game that will make a lot of people happy with its simplistic style and its witty conversations. The only downside of this game is the lack of variety.

Great game. Halloween is best holiday so to have a game taking place on Halloween night is awesome. You go door to door collecting candy which is currency, you use candy to collect stamps which are perks/upgrades that help you when you battle monsters, whatever costume you're wearing transforms into a battle suit & then you take down your enemies through inputs in a turn based combat system. If you're a lover of turn based games or Halloween you'll enjoy this cute funny game.

Costume Quest is a game that is aimed at a younger audience. I have this game on Epic Games, and I tried it out so that I could watch its animated show on Prime Video. And after trying it for half an hour I became addiced to it. The game is very creative and colourful. I have completed the main quest using Reynold and as of when this review is written, I'm trying out the Grubbins on Ice DLC. And having done that I can now finally review it. The game is in the form of a JRPG, where the player gets to wear a costume that has been made from the materials that they have collected. Each costume has their own way of performing basic attacks and does different things on special attacks. The things I didn't like about the game is that it has a very slow and confusing start. In the beginning I didn't even know what I was supposed to do because of how many things were going on around me. I didn't know the tasks that were being spoken were supposed to be fulfilled in a specific order. I was trying to perform one task without knowing I couldn't do it (the teacher one, in case you're wondering). Then Big Bones also made a sudden appearance instead of gradually explaining who or what he is. Other than that Costume Quest is a must play for family audience or for households where there are small children. In spite of being more than 10 years old at the time of writing this, it's still holds up against today's games.

I love the combat system in this game. It is perfect to not have another real-time hack and slash diablo clone. I also love the Halloween theme, it is well done from the music to the visuals. This game is great and worth every cent.

So is Costume Quest worth picking up, even if you're not a huge RPG fan? Absolutely. It's great as both an entry point for players that don't have a lot of experience in the genre, and it also serves up a lot of fan for people that aren't really RPG fans to begin with.

One of the biggest surprises this year is Costume Quest. It's a pretty weird Role Playing Game with a unique setting and gameplay, that will be a bit repetitive. Anyway, THQ delivers with Costume Quest a great tilte on the PlayStation Network that has a few fantastic elements.

If Costume Quest was a full-retail game, we'd recommend it with a few caveats. But seeing as its fifteen bucks, fans of RPGs/Halloween/Neglecting their children should pick it up without hesitation.

Costume Quest works better when the emphasis is on action. The "collect all candy to unlock next world" variation may get a little tired by the end of the game, but it's a lot of fun to collect new costumes (and discover their abilities).

If you had a brother or sister growing up, then Costume Quest will speak to you whether you like it or not, much like that pesky sibling. Not only does it capture the spirit of Hallowe'en, but it perfectly encapsulates the brother/sister relationship into a short, six hour period.

Costume Quest is cute and funny, so it may look like a good game for kids. Let me assure you: After completing the adventure (which took me about five hours), I can't recommend Costume Quest to gamers of any age.

Great game, great replay value, perfect Halloween game. Players can aimlessly knock on doors, either receiving candy or a scary suprise of a "Grubbin". Combat is sometimes better than candy, because the turn based combat is fun and rewarding. Easily the best game that can be downloaded off the PSN.

The most simple thing I can say about this game is this...... It's exactly what you would expect it to be. It's a fun little game with EXTREMELY little combat options (although the combat is still a bit entertaining). No upgrades in the game, you can unlock new costumes but sometimes it's pointless and you'll find yourself using costumes from earlier in the game more than you would use the "better" costumes you find later in the game because, well, some of the later costumes aren't better. Play the demo, and there it is... the demo is exactly the maximum gameplay in this game. The only point in buying the game would be to continue the story mode and unlock new locations (not that you can explore the locations very much). I would say if you're really in the Halloween mood (which I was when I bought and played this) than this game is probably worth about $10.

A very unique action RPG, great for kids and adults alike. When I first downloaded this game and started out, I was none too impressed. I have to admit I ended up becoming addicted and didn't stop playing until I was almost finished. Early slow pacing may detour some people, but if you stick with it you'll be rewarded with new abilities and costumes which change the dynamics and will keep you interested. The controls are easy to pick up and figure out, and the movements you'll need to pull off some of the attacks will come with ease. Combat comes pretty easy too, considering you're limited in attacks based on the costume you're wearing. The graphics are passable, but I do feel like character voices would've helped this game quite a bit. I grew up in the golden age of RPG / JRPG games so text comes natural, but with this game it just seems like voices could have added to the personality this game has. Exploring can net you new costumes and abilities and the stages aren't so huge that you'll get lost, but the costumes you'll find never really live up to the effort. I got this game for free by being a PS+ member, but I think a $10 price tag for this cute little adventure is totally worth the money. It's not a long game by any means and you won't find super diverse combat structure, But what it lacks in length and depth it makes up for in personality and fun factor!

Lovely world, child friendly and cute. The gameplay is a bit too simple and repetitive though. And because off a bug the developers never fixed I had to play the game all over again (and I hate that) becaus my savegame was corrupt. I did play it over again though and I did have some fun with it. Sidenote: this feels like a game two kids should play together, so why is it completely single player?

It's VERY boring, there was more cut scenes than gameplay, and a lot of the text is unskippable, making it even more tedious.
