I have nothing against abstract games but Awkward Dimensions Redux just felt like a mashup of ideas with little to no point or theme except to be weird. Each level is basically finding the exit or using an item but others just felt like I had to sit there long enough for a timer to run out before I was transported to the next level. There was no overarching theme except perhaps the fact that a couple levels seemed to deal with depression or heart break. The music was fantastic and was the one standout feature. The graphics were decent. Some levels went for more of a technical or realistic style while others were more out there using varied colours and themes. I think they were at their strongest when using a less realistic style because the game was never going to be a technically beautiful game, even for the year it was released, but the art style on the other levels was well done and looked distinct and unique. I found the movement janky and weird although it wasn’t terrible. I played the game on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs. You can’t save mid level but you can skip levels and choose which one to play next. Alt-Tab didn’t work. There was one graphics setting and the resolution. The game is capped at 60 FPS but luckily stuck close to the maximum for me. Game Engine: Unity Graphics API: OpenGL Disk Space Used: 1.8 GB Settings Used: 2560*1440, Fantastic GPU Usage: 0-88 % VRAM Usage: 803-1432 MB CPU Usage: 3-10 % RAM Usage: 4.0-4.5 GB Frame Rate: 54-60 FPS I can’t recommend Awkward Dimensions despite the price tag of free. It has a couple interesting ideas but overall just felt pointless and a waste of my time. I finished it in thirty one minutes. My System: Intel i5-12600K | 16GB DDR4-3000 CL15 | XFX RX 590 8GB Fat Boy | Mesa 22.3.6 | Garuda | Mate 1.26.0 | Kernel 6.2.5-zen1-1-zen

I'm kind of a **** for games like these, so this is probably an inflated score, but I just really enjoy the ambiance that a game like this can create. There's not really a lot that you're doing actively, but it's games like these that remind me that games can also just be interactive experiences that provide you with a unique perspective that's not possible with another medium. Also, I really loved the way that music (and sound in general) was used in this game.

Mirror's Edge. SummaryAwkward Dimensions Redux is a personal game. Lasts 20 minutes to an hour with less traditional interaction. Focuses on getting to understand another person through an interpretation of their dreams, thoughts, fears, desires, and past work. It's a game about conversing with roosters, disembodied legs, standardized tests, immature jokes, ... Read More
