After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.

I originally rated this game a 4 at launch due to all the bugs, glitches, crashes and broken content, but it had potential. Then it was patched and I gave it a 7 as it was much better and had room for greatness. Today it is canceled . . . but I have to ask myself why did this game fail? Was it because the controls or UI were broken? No. Was it because the graphics and visuals were bad? No. Was it because the gameplay or mechanics were disconnected, unintuitive or broken? No. Was it because the campaign plot, story, or narrative were crap, slop or broken? Again - NO. For all those considerations this game was, as good as, if not better than Destiny! And based on what can only be called sabotage by the developer . . . that is why I pushed the rating to a 10 - to give it what it deserved, but not what EA ever allowed it to earn. What broke Anthem was simply - no content. It ran out of stuff to do and loot to earn. There wasn't just "little" support for it - there was NO SUPPORT FROM EA AT ALL! Anthem was the game we wanted it, how we wanted it, and apparently, aside from a single sale/buy EA couldn't figure out how to market this game for a DLC / micro-transaction cash printer, and eventually they couldn't get out of their own way to be able to push the button on the hit they had and we all wanted. For me this will always be the "one that got away"! Long live the King that never was!

It's the final day of Anthem, January 12th 2026. Servers were just shut down a couple of hours ago, making this great game unplayable, unfortunately. I had a blast with it, played it for 30+ hours in the final week. Mechanically this was one of the best action games with superb movement - flying, hovering, dashing, double jumping, diving deep underwater and rocketing back up to the air like a missile - and punchy combat with tons of guns and magic-like special powers. In 4-player co-op on hard level it was relentless chaos and destruction. The game offered many ways to customize and upgrade your mech and the hunt for various upgrade materials was addictive. Bioware also built an original world for Anthem with a fascinating back story, with striking, vertical-heavy scenery, strange wildlife and varied locations. Back at the home base you had relationships with various interesting NPCs in typical Bioware fashion, giving you a nice break from the battlefield. Missions were samey, but the fun combat always outweighed that. So farewell to all freelancers and thanks for the memories Bioware.

Anthem’s rich storytelling and engaging combat lays the foundation for Bioware’s newest adventure. While there are plenty of quality of life improvements to be made, Anthem’s ambitious approach to the looter-shooter genre is encouraging given the development team’s steadfast community engagement. With a roadmap stretching far into the horizon, we’ll be flying around the world of Anthem for a long time to come.

Wearing armor and fighting like the Iron Man is really amazing, but this game at this time is also full of flaws. The story is dull. The gameplay is repetitive and boring. What's worse, there are too many bugs and network issues. Maybe it will be a great game when its DLCs come out.

Anthem is a constant emotional see-saw. There is a lot of fun from flying, shooting and admiring this beautiful world, and almost as much frustration due to a surprising amount of bad ideas and issues. Some won't be bothered by them and keep flying, and others will go somewhere else. Anthem is a game to both love and to hate at the same time.

Too many elementary mistakes were simply made here: the mission design is too monotonous, the story is poorly told, the technology an impertinence. To make matters worse, the makers neglected the endgame. Thus, the former RPG specialists here have finally lost the trust of many fans.

Anthem is a strange flawed adventure with glimpses of greatness buried behind an abundance of obtuse design decisions. What so many players love about Bioware is here, but fragmented in such a way that it becomes unrecognisable...The core of Anthem – being its fearsome gunplay and angelic flight mechanics – are stellar, yet they’re held back by the mission structure that dictates them. Things could certainly improve with the introduction of deeper dungeons and endgame content, but right now Anthem is sadly underwhelming; a victim to the template it’s trying so hard to emulate.

Anthem offers near unlimited potential, with certain features, taken separately, representing a marvel in design. Combined together and it proves to have a lot of style but very little substance.

Even where it is strongest, Anthem rarely stretches beyond the derivative. The combat, while well-designed, is little more than Gears of War with jetpacks, and narratively it veers between inconsequential and downright irritating. This anthem is, sadly, a tedious and conservative dirge that we’ve all heard before

I believe that this game is the most underrated game in the world. This game is insane: graphics unbelievable, the controllers, skills, combat type, especially Storm javelin skills animations better than any other overrated games. After 6 years, I still believe that, if developers will do something about game story and events, Anthem will take its deserved place in the world of games. I hope one day developers try to do something.

This is prime example of wasted potential. It took them one year to just fix the game (but not everything was fixed), and then it died. But I got to say, what is in there, is still fun and playable. Missions are fine, freeplay is even better, story is acceptable but character are annoying, almost everyone is smartass. There are good rpg elements, some nice builds to discover, so overall it's a fine game, but it could have been so much better. Graphics and overall presentation is really good.

Really cool flying mechanic and beatiful enviroment but unfortunately everything else falls aparts. This game doesnt appreciate player and his time. Makes him do tedious quests just to get not a very rewarding reward. I am sad to see such a HUGE potential to waste in this live service game.

Summing up fun flashy combat & visuals with interesting enough story. Held back by unconvincing characters with cringe delivery & dialogue. Ok it looks nice with cool sci-fi techy stuff. Game does not do a good job of setting up the world building. Early on I had no idea what the Anthem/Cenotaph is/was. Combat is fast & flashy with a Mass Effect Andromeda feel & some Iron Man flight thrown in. Seems a simple grind wave shooter fetch quester most of the time with enemies cheaply & lazily teleporting in. Playing normal & solo and doable enough, but early days yet. Fairly recent purchase. Enviroment bugs getting stuck in/under the map. Can't hardly connect to server anymore. No not a local issue as all other online gaming is fine on console & pc on multiple clients. Game is making it hard for me to like it, but I want to like it 17 hours in. The peril of always online games. Unable to contect to server for many days now so a DNF. The 8080 Port Forwarding helps. Anthem only times out 50% of the time now, oh well. Really can't be fussed to continue due to the time outs, DNF.
