Very fun co-op brawler/beat ‘em up. The 4 characters are all pretty fun to play as well. The game looks great and I love the art style. I do wish there was a bit better dodge/block mechanics. There are times when you feel you have it down, but either super wide arcing attacks will still hit. And sometimes the screen is so full of effects, abilities going off and enemies, that it is almost impossible to see what is going on. That is my main issue with the game. But, if it was refined more with making it easier to see things and easier to parry/dodge, the game would be a little too easy. I think though, I rather have the difficulty ramped up, but make those dodge/block mechanics work more reliably.

Another fantastic game by Dotemu. Similar to Hades it will have you replaying a gauntlet with a variety of different powers that you have a chance of obtaining along the way. there are also several different characters for you to choose from and while they mostly feel very similar to each other they are different enough to provide some entertainment. The mechanics are super fun, the levels are fair but challenging and the progression isn't so much **** that it makes you want to quit. i loved it. I wish there was a little more endgame stuff to do once you conquer the final boss but that is really my only minor complaint. This is a fantastic game especially if you enjoy roguelites like hades or dead cells.

By far one of the best Rogue-like games I've ever played, Absolum does everything in its power to limit the problems that Rogue-like games can present and just make a fun and interesting beat-em-up game, similar to some of DotEmu's previous games like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredders Revenge. The game plays almost exactly like those previous games, with it being a side scrolling 2D fighter that allows you to choose from 4 characters, all of which play very distinctly and are all interesting to use. The gameplay is some of the best out there, since they're so used to making these types of games. The Rogue-like elements implemented here feel like they were added onto the periphery to give the game a bit of a different look from all those other games. The amount of routes you can take to the final bosses and things you can discover is pretty high and I'm surprised with the amount of content that's here. Plus the game is super forgiving in alot of aspects, even going so far as to give you access to a menu that will allow the player to change almost all of the base values that pop up in the game. Like being able to change your damage output and even turn all the enemies attacks to zero, making your character invincible. Even if you do that though, beginning each new run is the point of the game, as it'll give you access to seemingly more and more items and locations for you to explore and more story for you to interact with. I beat the first final boss after a handful of playthroughs and a whole brand new area to explore, with new mechanics opened up for me, with a whole brand new final boss to fight. It's extremely well done and, as someone who usually hates Rogue-likes with a passion, seeing a game like this hook me as hard as this has is very fun and exciting. Dotemu is quickly becoming one of my favorites devs and I really hope they continue to crush it moving forward no matter what genre they choose to use from now on.

Really fun game. Reminds me a lot of when I played Hades. I'm not a fan of the Beat 'm up genre, but this game is quite addictive and well thought out. Amazing visuals and gameplay as well. 5 hours in right now.
Also jumping on the Rantman hate train: moronic review honestly. If you like roguelikes this game is a 100% recommendation. Changed my score from a 9 to 10 to compensate for the ridiculous 0 scores.

The game is a combination of roguelike and 2D action game, which reminds me of Hades, Dragon's Crown, and Dungeon Fighter Online. It's light to play, suitable for someone like me who doesn't want to spend so much time on video games, but wants to have a taste on weekends.

Terrible game. Boring. Typical roguelike crap. The physical copy of the game is a joke it has no reversible cover the laziest ugliest cover ever. Instead the reverse side is all small prints of all this legal crap by EU. The game is terrible. Do not buy this game

Playing Absolum felt like discovering a beat-’em-up that wanted to be more than just a nostalgia trip—and, for the most part, it succeeds. The combat is punchy and fluid, with every hit and dodge feeling meaningful, and the mix of combo-driven action with roguelite progression keeps you chasing just one more run. The hand-drawn visuals and richly varied soundtrack make the world of Talamh feel alive and distinctive, and there’s a satisfying rhythm to evolving your build as you dive back in after every defeat.

Possibly the most replayable side scrolling beat' em up of all time. With satisfactory lore and world building along with a great sound track the atmosphere feels great. The rogue like elements, although not perfect, are extremely satisfying and inspire countless replays. This game tapped into something special, and got it mostly right.

Absolut is a beast. Great game, funny to play and it respects the rogu'elite gameplay.

Absolum is absolutely awesome, loved playing this game and going to continue playing it in the next coming week. This game caught me off guard didn’t even know about it and it was totally off my radar. I downloaded it after hearing some decent reviews but didn’t expect it to grab me and hook my attention like it did. I don’t care for rogue like games, and only sometimes enjoy beatem ups. My favorite beat-em ups are the teenage mutant ninja turtle beat em ups, and especially shredders revenge. I can say this formula works for me and might be the best beat-em up I’ve ever played in my entire life. It seems hard at first but once you figure out how to play it is just awesome! Solid 9, gonna keep playing and loving it. Best beat-em up game ever.

One of the best beat-em ups I've EVER played. I've been playing it almost exclusively since release- I especially enjoy the hidden rewards, bosses and unlockables in the game. The sound and graphics are top notch- i thought the hand drawn artwork is a very nice touch. Controls are very responsive and the combo system is simple but can also be built open with dodges and clashes.

Absolum m’a vraiment convaincu.

Awful game. Clearly "designed for modern audiences". Awful art style, terrible characters. Cringe writing. Roguelike mechanics are annoying.
Bad game, there's tons of better beat'em ups, especially the art style kills this one.

****/IcZCEedmUkY?si=Vfi8HoWzMOyDBbMo Mini review: Yes, obviously, it might be an exaggeration for many to call it GOTY, but it brings some beautiful things that many will say: It combines Hades with Streets of Rage 4. And it makes sense because they are the developers of the latter. However, this game manages to separate itself from both to create this little gem, hopefully not so hidden, to delight us with those powerful hits, different styles, and characters, united in beautiful art.I'll talk more about it as time goes on, but here are the first two hours of this roguelike lite. Obviously, you have to die to progress, but which had me within 5 HP of the first big boss, which made me angry and at the same time gave me that addiction that many of us crave in video games.BEAUTIFUL replayability. On top of that, this New Game Plus that's now available is even more intriguing and addictive. Many branches, combos, and side quests that make you want to keep hitting everyone. How lovely.

Absolum is an absolutely addictive roguelite that blends intense brawling action with seamless co-op gameplay. Every run feels fresh and unpredictable, pushing you to fight harder and smarter. The combat is fast, fluid, and deeply satisfying : a perfect balance between chaos and control. Playing with friends turns each session into a thrilling, strategic dance of survival. The visuals are stunning, bursting with personality and atmosphere. The soundtrack perfectly amplifies the tension and energy of every encounter. Absolum isn’t just a game : it’s a pure adrenaline rush you’ll keep coming back to.

I genuinely liked Absolum; the combat mechanics are fluid, the visuals are impressive, and the atmosphere is strong. However, after a few hours, everything started to feel familiar. The same loops, similar enemies, and repetitive rituals eventually slow down the pace. The game isn’t bad — in fact, it’s quite polished — but it’s like eating the same delicious dish over and over: tasty, yet too much of it becomes tiring.

Extremely solid game, with very engaging gameplay loops. Kind of hard to believe that this game only cost $20 for the quality of the art and the gameplay experience. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of the beat em up genre.

What the hell is this character design, Lmao. Look at the Vanillaware games (like Dragon's Crown), and then look at this. Yikes. Gave Absolum a chance... It's one of those games where politics chokes aesthetics.

First and foremost: a frog wizard? Hell yea! A dwarf? Even better! No seriously, Absolum is an absolutele banger ****! The controls and fighting is smooth and so enjoyable you want to play it again and again! Good, since it is a roguelike game. You die alot and keep trying and leveling to make progress. The art, music and sound are out of this world, different from many other games and super high quality. Also all lines are voiced, but the story is not forced on you. There are little things in the dialogues though that are intriguing and make you think about things. I will play this for a long time to come and highly recommend it!

“Just one more run.” I’m addicted to Absolum. It feels so freaking good to play, to get stronger. The different buffs and you can fight with more than one element equipped, so sick.

Great roguelite game (has metaprogression) with incredible addicting gameplay. I played & finished with a friend couch co-op and is definitely the most fun way to play this. Gameplay is great, roguelite aspect is great but there are some minor setbacks: levels arent random generated and by run 6 you know most of the levels, i feel they should have done something there (look at the game undermine, this works wonders) and the forced woke stuff is not for me; an irritating pregnant black woman which absolutely doesnt fit in the fantasy setting sticks out as a sore thumb.

I'm new to roguelite games, so I bought this for a friend without realising it was co-op, so grabbed myself a copy to play as well. I wasn't a fan of dying and having to restart from the beginning (especially to fight a boss again), but the way the game is made, playing the game again with better stats, different skills, different routes, learning how everything works, meeting new characters, unlocking new paths, figuring out boss mechanics and repeating - man, it's addictive! We played 5hrs straight and we're middle aged with little free time. I can't wait to play again tomorrow too. Once you find the skills and upgrades that gel with your playstyle it's so much fun (we got a 932 combo at one point). The music is great too, you'll find yourself humming the tunes since they're so catchy. We've finished the first map today, and got close to the end of the 2nd, but there's still so much to explore in these areas with characters mentioning new quests in the lobby and new locations appearing on the map to try new routes. This game looks so simple but it goes quite deep. The most fun I've had since playing Turtles Shredders Revenge. 10/10, recommend to play with a friend!

0 rating should be banned here here. Anti woke craziness against a fantastic game. This kind of score could ruin metacritic. Administrators be careful.

+ Looks pretty good
+ Roguelite style
+ The maps and the 2d style looks pretty good
- Ability to cancel attacks would make the experience smoother
- Mother is pretty annoying
- Lack of visualization of overall stats of the character, relevant for pickups and know the impact that some stats have on combat and drops
And most important: - Lacks more build customization, everything feels too RNG. There's not a lot of stuff you can upgrade or tweak.

All around great beat em up with some roguelike elements.
Art style is glorious and the OST is stellar. Gameplay is snappy and you can eventually do some impressive combos after you unlock some of the skills. The roguelike "run" based style is done really well. There are many hidden quests in the game that you can stumble onto even after you have beaten the final boss. I beat the final boss in around 15h of playtime and even after that I am seeing lots of content I have not found yet. Hoping for DLC and eventually Absolum 2. Great game all around. One negative is that i have had 2 occurences of a run breaking bugs. Both were caused by an enemy stuck out of bounds where my character could not reach and I had to end the run there because you cannot move to next "room" if any enemies are alive in the previous one.

Lmao made an account specifically to call out Rantman on being a complete tool. Look at his other reviews, he literally just gives games zero scores over the most trivial stuff. He is not even ranting, he is just being a complete child. Btw, this game is fantastic. Been playing for over 11 hours in one day.

IDK what you're angry about Rantman, but obviously you're just trying to smear the game. I can get it if you don't like the style, or the mechanics, but to say the art is awful is objectively wrong and signals you as a hater for hater's sake. The art is gorgeous. If it's not your thing fine, but don't tell me thhese graphics are bad when it's one of the games biggest draws (pun intended). I'm guessing you also try to convince people to not like Taylor Swift cuz you don't. Just cuz you're not into it, doesn't make it bad. PS. This game slaps HARD if you're not a hatin' ass hater. highly recommend.
