The second season of her midlife comedy drama is even more perspicacious, poignant and hilarious than the first.

What emerges, less through the sometimes stilted interviews with Harte and more via the archive footage, is Kylie’s sunny disposition, vitality and her immense struggle to become what she always was at heart – a magnificent pop star.

Less attention is paid to Swift’s music and songwriting craft, which is what happens when a female pop star goes stratospheric. Analysis turns, as it inevitably does in Taylor, to her capacity for reinvention, steely backbone and ability to manipulate her own image.

The Change is ambitious, surreal, moving, and above all hysterically funny. It is unlike anything else on TV.

It’s the lack of humour, irony, self-awareness and apprehension of the reality of this deeply unequal and apocalyptic world that makes With Love, Meghan so unlovable in the end.

Flawless adaptation. .... The whole enterprise hangs on Em and Dex, who must be completely believable and lovable, individually and together. They are extraordinary.

The chemistry between Bertha and George is off the Edith Wharton scale. Still, they remain one-dimensional: made purely of ambition, like the American myth itself. Also the dialogue, in general, is like second-rate champagne. It never fizzes as it should. It takes some effort to give Oscar Wilde a cameo and grant him not one quotable line. And yet. Fellowes’ conservatism is served with just enough perspective to prevent it tipping over into a complete endorsement of the establishment.

It’s tonally uneven, bulked up with Jungian filler, still ultimately all about the man, not as sexy as the original, and, on its own terms, just as sexist.

Rain Dogs is not really a comedy at all. It’s a bleak and beautiful drama in which the rare laughs are a matter of survival, like holes punched through the dark.

It’s all very entertaining, what with the New York Stock Exchange-style display graphics running along the bottom of the screen, slow-mo actor re-enactments, and requisite shots of apoplectic brokers on the trading floor. But I think I’m done with being entertained by the true crimes of unaccountable men.
