At its most basic narrative level, the show’s premise is only mildly interesting, but two things manage to elevate it enough so as to demonstrate the potential for good storytelling, and there’s also change from the original that gives the show more fertile ground to work with than a lot of CW dramas: The first is the immigration parallel. ... The second big thing Roswell, New Mexico has going for it is the mystery planted in the pilot.

If Twilight is your jam, this is going to be right up your alley. If you’re curious but indifferent to the Twilight comparison, then still give A Discovery of Witches a chance, because there are some intriguing threads started in the first couple of episodes.

What is the point of this show? If it’s not laughs or personal growth, is it just a slice-of-life comedy about unlikable people? That’s not enough, especially in this overcrowded TV landscape. ... Despite high hopes for this combination of Dunham’s writing talent and Garner’s charisma, there just isn’t enough over the first four episodes to really make this a comedy worth tuning into. You can skip this Camping trip.

Riverdale has never known quite what to do with its milquetoast hero (other than have him be shirtless as often as possible) and this storyline does not appear to be remedying that--unless, as was mentioned, they’re ultimately getting rid of him. ... At least the show has Betty and Jughead around to be awesome together. They are definitely worth tuning in for, and there is potential for a few other storylines to blossom into some strong material as well.

The new iteration gets off to an uneven start. There are some bright spots, like original cast members Bergen, Faith Ford (Corky), Joe Regalbuto (Frank) and Grant Shaud (Miles) slipping effortlessly back into their roles. And Jake McDorman is an excellent choice to play Murphy’s now-28-year-old son Avery. ... But what doesn’t work as well, at least in the first two episodes, is how topical the show is trying to be.

It all makes for a solid ensemble, and while I don’t know if I foresee a runaway hit like This Is Us brewing, A Million Little Things definitely has potential to be a solid drama.

It suffers from being neither dark enough nor campy enough--either choice would have been a lot more enjoyable. But it is stuck in a middle area that is devoid of over-the-top absurdity or any real darkness.

YOU has an intriguing premise, though it will certainly not be everyone’s cup of tea. Through five episodes, though, it’s a slick ride so far.

There is a lot to like and there is great potential, so give it a chance and see if you want to engage with Marry Me every week.

This new CBS drama proved to be as trite and cliched as was expected, with the extra added bonus of gratuitous violence perpetrated against women that did nothing but produce a disgusted eyeroll.
