great cinematography, great acting. the voice of the character is intriguing. the running gag of the fake identities was funny at first but broke immersion eventually. why would someone who was so meticulously trying to conceal themselves risk this? tilda swinton was her usual overblown tedious quirky self. her dialogue was weak and i cringe whenever i see her on screen. this was a really nice movie, nice cinematography, nice art direction, deft direction. my main complaint is there were no surprises in the movie. the basic premise was established in the first 10 minutes and it laboriously followed that route. perhaps this was intended as a meta commentary on the narrator's philosophy of never straying from his intended path and while that may be clever, it wasn't intriguing.

glanced at other reviews, i really don't get the hate. this was a really well directed, well edited, well shot, funny movie. nice cinematography, culturally on point, really solid acting. very enjoyable and rewatchable. do people hate it cause they are rich kids? i don't think the movie likes rich kids very much either. I'm baffled by the political responses to this movie. recommend.

This movie looks gorgeous, the acting is great and the set pieces are amazing. But after watching it I felt something was wrong. The central conceit of the movie - that Mozart was an enemy of Salieri is just not true and not borne out by historical record at all. They had their differences but ultimately Salieri was a fan of Mozart and actually promoted his work. I understand that they were not aiming to make a documentary and I understand that artistic license is often necessary to create drama, but when your whole central thesis is based on a lie then it starts to fall apart. I felt cheated. The filmmakers created this fake drama that didn't exist in real life at all. If you wanted to create a drama about a story like this go for it. But to create a representation of Mozart that is nothing like the man is fraudulent and does a massive disservice to him and it feels like the drama was shoehorned in just to make a story more conflict laden. Why? To sell more tickets?

i hated interstellar and i thought inception was dull as dishwater but after watching Tenet, i'm starting to reassess nolan's movies. yes they are exposition heavy and the dialogue is plodding and you can actually see the actors struggling to find a way to deliver their terrible lines but like Russel Crowe said in Gladiator:"Are you not entertained?!?!?". The setpieces are always visually stunning and the concepts are designed to be baffling. They're not something that lend themselves well to visual explanation but now I see them more like David Lynch movies - almost dream like. And when i watch the movies with this feeling - like we are not supposed to wholly understand, then you can just enjoy them for the silly dialogue that is designed to be baffling and nonsensical and just engage with the mish mashy spectacle of the whole mess. Then they are fun and enjoyable. If you take it too seriously and analytically, which, granted you might feel like you are supposed to, then it's a massive disappointment. If you enjoy it like a mission impossible thriller then it's a fun ride and visually stunning. there will always be a place in my heart for the prestige and memento though and dunkirk was solid. they hold up on many different levels. tenet can be enjoyable if you keep your analytical and logical brain in check and just enjoy on a visceral level. kinda like a brainy fast and furious lol.

As a cinephile i was blown away by this. Joaquin Phoenix is my favourite actor for starters but this just confirmed it for me. I'm really gobsmacked by the mediocre critics rating. And I also understand why the movie got a prolonged standing ovation at Cannes. I really don't like super hero movies - I agree with Scorcese on that point - and this doesn't feel like one. I think it would be awesome for Phoenix to get the oscar, his performance is incredible.

this movie has nothing going for it. as a portrait of a mediocre aimless artist it fulfills its brief but the downside is that it's aimless and mediocre to watch and not aimless in a fun big lebowski way. i love the coen brother's early work but this movie and a few other recent ones give me the impression they are sliding into mediocrity with little to say. tragic.

Wonderfully portrayed the depth, the humanity, the intelligence of Brando. Respectfully put together with fascinating audio. I really felt his disillusion with the art form. You really feel that his genius was almost wasted on film yet he was also so brilliant and transformed the medium alchemically too. I felt a new found awe for the man. Highly recommend.

Yes this movie is a bit slow moving and maybe it doesn't tie up everything in a neat little self satisfied bow at the end but it's a fantastic movie. The cinematography is amazing and the mood created is subtle and intriguing; the art direction is wonderful. I highly recommend. Not for someone who needs big laughs and explosions and a tacked on love story. A bit cerebral but never lacking heart. Loved it.

I wanted to like this movie. I like Bradley Cooper, I like Lady Gaga. I don't like this movie. They're both good actors but Cooper's musical performances are so flat and uninspiring and Gaga is such a talented performer that the whole thing doesn't add up. Also cooper's suffering jesus is a bit painful to watch. The poor guy. It just didn't work for me and unless you're a die hard Cooper/Gaga fans, this is all a bit tepid despite good performances, story, secondary actors, direction, art direction, camerawork etc. which are all top notch. I need to review some movies I liked now cause I notice I'm only reviewing overhyped movies that i find crap.

ok this movie has its flaws but it was really entertaining. interesting premise well developed and good acting and effects. i do agree with one reviewer who mentioned the geography of the spaceship was a little bit lacking but this is something i only realised in retrospect and it doesn't get in the way of the enjoyment. there were a few moments when characters did incredibly stupid things to further the plot which was just irritating but still worth viewing.

awwww man, the first half was amazing but the second half.... well i could barely watch it. way to squander what was a great idea. Great performance from Frances McDormand but I just started to lose compassion for her half way through when she continuously did spiteful and nasty things with no justification and absolutely no repercussions. That coupled with the 1 dimensional rendering of the redneck racists and stupid cops just left a bad taste in the mouth. Also cheesy voiceovers from dead people... no thanks. I think the deer scene was the moment for me when this one jumped the shark. If you're going to have CGI in your movie, it better be absolutely flawless. If it looks like a badly lit cut out or a glitchy render then you have **** the illusion of reality and every minor flaw becomes magnified in scrutiny.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that reviewers are being bought and reviews are astroturfed. This was a really boring movie with weakly developed characters, a pointlessly downbeat setting and overly angst ridden in general. The first 2 reboot movies were innovative, clever, well acted and scripted, had plausible characters, both ape and human and had real conflicts at their centres. This has a few secondary characters who get a ton of screen time for absolutely minor plot points, implausible scenes aplenty and ridiculous deus ex machina resolutions. Terrible movie. I can't believe they spent over 150m dollars on this turd.

i so so wanted to enjoy this movie. in a summer of really terrible movies this had the promise of being a gem amidst all the dreck. the first 15 minutes were really entertaining, a bit surreal in parts and innovative. unfortunately it all went downhill from there with an incredibly uninspiring plot, weak acting from bored actors. the music gimmick is exactly that, a gimmick. the lead actor is like watching paint dry. the dialogue and character motivations are weak and inexplicable. the female characters are uninspired stereotypes. what a wasted opportunity for something that could have been amazing. i give it a few marks for the impressive driving scenes and some of the musical bits. the rest of it is just bad formulaic trash.

Can a movie just be a movie anymore? Do writers and directors feel obliged to have to shoehorn a narrative about contemporary societal issues into every story? It's an interesting story to start with. Did we need to be hammered over the head with a feminist lecture about equality of the sexes (which I'm all for, by the way)? Tiresome, as if any misogynist was suddenly going to have an epiphany watching this heavy handed schtick anyway. Also the lead actor's diction is painful and he's got the charisma of a wet sock. Also: awful title

This has to be one of the most overrated movies of all time. It's got an identity crisis, it doesn't know if it wants to be a horror or a comedy or a racial commentary and it fails in all three. The horror isn't very scary, the comedy is sparse and the racial commentary amounts to 'man, white people say dumb **** over and over and over again. The major premise of the white people's motivation doesn't add up and as others have said it takes over an hour before it's revealed what the plot of the movie is. If, like me, you're not from the US, you're going to find this agonizing over the correct way to behave to black people really tiresome too. In it's favour, some of the acting is pretty good. I recommend to avoid.

Can i Please have my two hours back? I Cannot for the life of me understand what all the hype was about. This was a mediocre movie, with few laughs, very little chemistry between the leads. I know a lot of humour is based on stereotypes but these were cardboard cutouts. Sandler, Seinfeld and Goldberg had this 'what have i let myself in for' look on their faces during their lacklustre cameos. Rosario Dawson is a weak actress in a 1 dimensional role. the writing is poor. The street scenes are weak. The sound mixing in club and party scenes is laughable for the wrong reasons. How did the mainstream critics miss all of this?

Mediocre... Mildly entertaining, nothing new or very fresh here. A good performance by Bradley Cooper but let's face it, the lead character is fairly one dimensional so that wasn't exactly a stretch. And I don't feel the direction was especially crisp either. However it's clear we are supposed to view Kyle as an all American hero. While his counterpart, the other sniper who does exactly the same job as him is patently a savage. I read Kyle's book before I saw this movie and I know Eastwood has selectively ignored Kyle's complete psychopathy which was readily apparent from his own words in the book and instead attempted to portray him as an empathetic family man which I never felt from reading Kyle's words. This man loved to kill people, pure and simple. That was his motivation. Live by the sword, die by the sword... And i could hardly feel any emotion or sympathy for someone who clearly took pleasure from killing others.

I watched engrossed for the first half an hour. It seemed like an interesting story with a stressed out, well meaning single mother and her problem child and his violent antisocial behaviours and what seemed to be an over active imagination. The acting was well done and both the mother and the kid are good actors. Unfortunately the horror of the movie was laughable and when they tried to scare you, the whole thing fell apart. I started laughing at the voices that were suppose to terrify and the effects used were straight out of a student movie. It got to the point where I completely lost interest. I continued to watch for a while but I skipped the last 15 minutes cause it was so crap. Don't believe all the reviews. This was a dreadful movie and best avoided.

I have to say this was an incredibly dull movie. If you're not american, you'll be scratching your head in bafflement about why there was a need to create a whole movie about a bunch of senators trying to wrangle votes for a bill. The sort of stuff you'd avoid on TV nowadays even if you're interested in politics. From the very first few moments of this banal platitude of a snoozefest, Lincoln is portrayed as some sort of angelic benevolent grandfather who can do no wrong. A bunch of soldiers appear at the base of his pedestal where he is bathed in a glorifying halo and recite verbatim a speech that he gave at some pivotal historical moment. The awe and respect from the soldiers is painful, one dimensional and almost insulting. So the tone is set. Lincoln is a hero from the outset, a glorified angel, a beatific beaming wise one. Where was the man? The depressed, racist, that is the reality of who he was? There's not a glimpse of it here. Add to that, the non stop speaking. It's incessant dialogue and not very good dialogue at that. Just because someone speaks fast doesn't make it clever or interesting or persuasive. I can't figure out why Day - Lewis would be involved in this turd. Is he desperate for an Oscar? Because everyone in this movie telegraphed from afar 'Watch this, this is my Oscar moment' I nearly gagged at Sally Field's first scene where she emoted sentimentally claiming she understood the significance of a dream claiming it was to do with a senate bill. She nearly wept. I have to say the cinematography wasn't very interesting either and the lighting was poor at some moments especially outdoor scenes where it was especially weak. And the hackneyed battle scene at the start? Forget about it, I wish I could unsee it. Turgid, Turgid, Turgid, avoid, avoid, avoid!
