I have spent 60 hours in-game already. The game mechanics are very rewarding - relatively simple to start with and 'brute force' your wins, to more elaborate positional plays. It's a game like chess - the basic rules are simple, but so many elaborate ways to outmanoeuvre your opponent. The setting is superbly done - you are quite literally the saviour of humanity against the horrible Vek insects. You can stop and save the game anytime (but you won't), the music is great. There's lots of attention to detail - from mech design to crowed cheering and sci-fi and cultural references. There's only 10/10 I can give to this game, a true gem that I can recommend to almost anyone.

BF1 is a great game so far. I am mostly reviewing the single player aspect of the game, I'll try MP next, but for now I am enjoying the single player section called "War Stores". There are many good things about the gameplay - at the core it is a very solid FPS shooter game. The WWI setting means the weapon are inaccurate, machines unreliable. The gameplay is more than I expected - not just aim and shoot on rails, there, vehicles, various approaches to an objective and my favourite part so far - the tanks.Being a crew member of a tank in WWi must have been a horrible experience and BF1 gives you a very accurate depiction of that. Another thing that the game highlights very well is the cruelty of the war - you play a little and you get shot and die, like so many did on the battlefields of WWI. I give it 9/10 as there are a few nitpicks for the PC version - there's 0 advanced settings in game such as AA modes or SSAO etc - you can tweak that through Geforce Experience but it would have been better if there was a setting in game. THe game doesn't lose a point for that as the engine is very well optimised and I get >100fps on GTX1080 at 2560x1440 Ultra settings all the time. At the moment, according to the game, I am 'offline' (even as I am writing and posting this review). I have still ways to go before I finish SP campaign, but it seems that the servers have died under load, at least in my region, so minus 1 point for that, let's hope they resolve it soon enough. Another thing I don't like is the need to have Origin client running - the pre-load crashed 1/3rd through and I had to start from scratch. I have hundreds of games on Steam and it's a shame that EA insist on Origin. Overall a very good game and worth the admission price and a few hiccups.

As long as you understand what this game is and set the expectations right, it's actually quite a fun, casual game where you take control of a small fleet of ships. It is good for me, as I don't have a lot of time to invest in a game nowadays, but in the end it is a rather simplistic port of an iOS game. If you enjoyed Faster Than Light, you will enjoy this game and I'd say this is a similar level of complexity. On the other hand FTL is more replayable, at least from the initial impression. On the graphics side, it looks very pretty. It isn't too demanding on the hardware side - making it a perfect game on the go - I play on a ultraportable laptop that can't handle most AAA games, this one is fine, so a big plus from me. Overall a strong 7 but a big plus from me for modest HW requirements so 8 from me.

The positive reviews here are basically trying to justify their purchase, it's not a 10 game just because you spent so much money on it. The haters scoring 0 are equally wrong. Unfortunately, for the time being this is a mediocre, boring game and the average score of 5 (at the time of writing this) is about right. Yes the graphics are pretty, especially on a 10 year old PS3, but it's still a very repetitive shooter, where you're supposed to shoot tons of spawned enemies. To add more to the insult, this is on a console, where aiming is painfully crippled, compared to a PC. If they indeed wanted to focus as much on consoles, they should have though the core mechanics of the gameplay through a little bit more... I am happy to change my score and the game is likely to improve over time, but at the moment, there is no reason to rush out and pay the premium for a launch title.

I think this is an area where Metacritic or perhaps the game review websites fail. It feels to me that the game has been reviewed by people who are not the target audience. My kids love it as much as people loved the original. Very good playability and that's what matters, also very casual so good for short sittings and suitable for kids attention spans. If you want something more epic, go play Skyrim, but don't destroy a good arcade game just because it's in a different genre.

I am a seasoned gamer and a middle aged man by now. I have seen and played many games by now. I don't really like playing with a controller (I prefer kb+m) or playing on a console. For this title I simply don't care. The game is so good, so rich, so full of story that controls, graphics (surprisingly beautiful for an aging PS3) just don't get in the way of full immersion. I challenge anyone to do a better game, I don't hesitate to give it a full 10, just for the sheer amount of content that's in it in day one. In the days of DLCs, freeemium, getting such a vast expanse **** to play with is just pure bliss.

Hidden Path developers did exactly what they should. They took a great franchise and took great care not to break it, instead focusing on polishing maps, weapons, money and overall gameplay balance. I really hope that the new edition will bring an influx of new players as this is the best Counter-Strike so far. Finally what I am quite happy about is that people seem to be switching from both 1.6 and Source version and like the new edition. I hope this will be the version to unite the now fragmented CS community.
