The Haunted: Hell's Reach10
Feb 5, 2012
I'm very surprised why the score for this game is so low. It's a third-person shooter and a very good one too! The game does not hold your hand, it is difficult but it's a lot of fun too. The maps are very big and the horde are a constant stream that will attack you mostly non-stop until you complete you complete each section, you also have environmental disasters (fog, thunder and lightning, etc.) which can be avoided if you can find and destroy the chronostone which will spawn in a random area several times during each phase, you'll then face the end of game boss, Abaddon, very tough but a nice challenge too. The weapons are also very nice to use, from the single handgun to the akimbo shotguns, RPG, mini-gun, akimbo uzi's and the deadly arsonator, etc. You can choose 1 of 4 characters to play as, each with their own characteristics and dialogue, you also have melee attacks for close-range battles and can pick up different types of grenades/dynamite during each phase which are scattered throughout the level. The levels are well designed and one of the things I like about this game. A low score that is undeserved in my opinion!

Killing Floor10

This game is often compared to Left 4 Dead and while it is similar the games play very different. L4D is going from point A to B while KF is try to survive each wave until you meet the boss (Patriarch). You have 7 perks (classes) to choose from, the perks are medic, demolitions, support specialist, sharpshooter, commando, firebug and berserker. Each perk has a role to play during the game and it's here that teamwork is needed to survive as the higher you go in difficulty the harder the game becomes for the entire team. You have a number of weapons to choose from depending on your chosen perk, some of these are the AK47, MG32 (Grenade Launcher), SCAR, Flamethrower, Chainsaw, etc. The game is quite easy to learn, survive each wave of specimens (zeds) and go to the trader to buy new weapons/re-arm/buy armour, etc. You'll then face the end of game boss, the Patriarch and he will take some skill to take down, he is heavily armed carrying a Mini-Gun and Rocket Launcher with will kill you or your team very quickly, he is also very fast and can cloak making him even more of a threat as you'll often find he can appear in the middle of the team without any warning. He can also heal 3 times if he takes too much damage. I've put a lot of time into this game (over 800 hours so far) and every game is different, the devs also release new characters or make them available via achievements for a specific event. The maps are very big and well designed too. A great team-based game and I highly recommend it!

Alien Zombie Megadeath8

This is a deceptive little game, it starts off nice and easy but as you progress further into the levels it becomes much more difficult. The graphics and sound are nice and simple, different game modes to play too, baby rescue, survival, bomb disposal, etc. It also has local co-op. My favourite part of the game is the jet pack, that's a lot of fun :) It reminded me of the sleepless nights I had trying to beat other platform games when I was a youngster. Fun game and plenty of levels to play too!

Orcs Must Die!9

What a great game! It's fun to play, controls are responsive and the graphics are good. I was quite surprised considering it's an indie title and a very good one too. Good variety of levels to play and a nice choice of traps/spells to use against those pesky orcs. I don't usually play these type of games but I've been watching this game since around April so decided to pre-order and hope it didn't disappoint me, thankfully it didn't. A great game for your game collection :D

Astro Tripper8

The classic Defender! That's what this game reminded me of after watching the gameplay video. The ship movement is perfect, graphics are good and sound is good. A game pad is highly recommended though, it can be played with the keyboard but the ship movement is so precise you can find yourself outside the play area resulting in your death. Fun game and brings back memories of the classic arcade shoot-em-ups! :)

Xotic9

I wasn't sure if this was my type of game so I took a chance and bought it anyway. It turns out that was a good choice, the game is very good and considering the price for xotic I've spent a lot more money on other titles that haven't provided anywhere near as much fun as I've had with this game. The object of the game is quite simple, try to score as many points as possible by causing chain-reactions, simple design but addictive too when you're trying to beat your own scores and see how you compare against other players on the leaderboard. You can also earn experience points to upgrade your weapons or skills. A good amount of levels to play including bonus rounds and very good map design too. The devs have said that they will include more graphics options in an upcoming patch so I've taken one point off the total score for that but the support is there and new levels are planned for the game. Great game, great fun and well worth the price :D

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad8

I took part in the beta as I wanted to give some feedback to the devs regarding how the game plays and maybe ways it can be improved. The game plays OK for me and it appears much better than the beta, however, some players cannot run it or it crashes during play, I don't have those problems so hopefully the devs are looking into it and will resolve those issues. The maps are big compared to some other FPS games I've played, it's a very tactical game and requires a little thought before moving towards a position (Territory), running and gunning can and will get you killed very quickly. I haven't tried all the weapons in the game yet but of those I have used they seem effective and do the job. The best part of the game for me is atmosphere, the sound of a weapon in the distance or artillery raining down on my position is very good. The game does have a few problems, cover/use/bandage assigned to 1 key needs to be changed, lockdown timer needs to go, that stops any kind of tactical play as the game then becomes a mad rush for the cap before the timer runs out, these are small things but some were mentioned during the beta and are still in the full release. I only hope that Tripwire are reading their forums and the Steam forums and taking the feedback from the players as a good thing, I want the game to be perfect and at the moment it isn't, some players do have major problems so hopefully they will be fixed. I enjoy the game but the little irritating bugs, some mentioned above, stop me from giving the game a higher rating.

I can't fault this game for support, the devs are on the Steam forums daily checking for problems or keeping us up-to-date with what new features/changes are coming with the upcoming patch. It is the best supported indie game I've seen on the Steam forums! The game is a top-down zombie shooter and fast-paced play but lots of fun too. I've put a lot of hours into this game and it never gets boring, the constant updates which include 4 player co-op, weapon upgrades, perk upgrades and new achievements, etc. keep the game fresh.

Garshasp: The Monster Slayer4
May 26, 2011
The game plays well for me so I have no issues with the gameplay, however, the camera angles are sometimes ridiculous and I'm currently at on point where I cannot progress any further in the game as I cannot see where I am supposed to be jumping too due to the camera angle. The game has had updates but the response from the devs is poor, I asked one question regarding a changelog as the game was being updated but I had no idea what was being changed and to date I have had no reply to that request, this is my first and last game bought from this dev. It's a shame as the game could be great with a few camera tweaks and a little more feedback from the devs but I refuse to support a game I cannot complete due to issues.

Steel Storm: Burning Retribution10

I bought this game on release and it is fantastic value for money. The gameplay is nice and smooth and it reminds me a lot of the old-school shoot-em-ups, plenty of levels to play and a good variety of aliens you'll meet on each map, some of those aliens are very sneaky and will duck behind cover to avoid your fire. Nice weapons to use and good level design too. Highly recommended and a very enjoyable game!

DogFighter10
Oct 26, 2010
I bought Dogfighter from Steam when is was released in June, since then I've played it numerous times online as I do prefer multiplayer. Singleplayer is available but I find MP a lot more fun. It's a bright colourful game that is a lot of fun to play with a few friends or you can join a game with other players in one of the dedicated servers, various game modes are available to choose from, capture the flag, team deathmatch, lonewolf, etc. There are great maps to play on and some of those maps really will test your skill as a pilot if you're being chased by another fighter, if you prefer closer combat then you have tunnel areas that really do put your flying skills to the test, combine those close combat tunnels with a fast aircraft and it's a challenge to follow another fighter into these tunnels but so rewarding if you can take the kill :) The aircraft (numerous to choose from) handle smoothly and are quick and responsive when you need it the most. Keyboard and mouse/joystick/gamepad work fine so it's up to you which you decide to use. Nice clean menus and leaderboards too if you want to see how you're doing against other pilots that play or just challenge your friends to a game and brag about your flying skills and you'll have stats to prove it. A recent patch 'Call to Arms' was released and this included various tweaks to the game, a new map and a new aircraft (The Mongoose). I've flown this a few times and it is very quick in a dive but sometimes you'll need that speed to get out of trouble quickly especially if you have someone on your tail. The new map is great to fly on and a pier you can fly under if need be to get away from another fighter, failing that you can try going high but you do become more of a target to the other fighters so deciding what tactic to use and when is important. If you are being chased you do have defensive weapons too, laying mines in certain spots can be beneficial but you also have rear rockets so any chasing fighter has to be careful how close they get to you, their are other numerous defensive weapons but you'll have to buy the game to find out what they are :P What's the support for the game like? First class in my opinion!! The devs are on the Steam forums daily asking for the communities suggestions for things we'd like to see in the game, some of those suggestions have already been included in the game, joystick support is one such thing but they also ask about any new game modes we'd like or ideas for new maps so the community provides a lot of feedback for the devs so they can take that information and bring into the game, the devs also give the community feedback about any new patches that might be released and what those patches include, as they did with the recent patch containing the new aircraft and new map. We had sneaky peeks of the map and aircraft and several posts by the devs informing us how the patch was progressing. I can't really criticise this game, it's got dedicated servers, a good choice of maps and aircraft to choose from, a new tutorial mode (included in the latest patch), it runs well, loads quickly, has good support from the devs and it's fun to play. The game is currently on a special deal on Steam, it costs a whopping £1.05 (yes you did read that correctly) it's cheaper than a loaf of bread here in the UK, awesome!! I think we're going to see a lot more additions to this game, new game modes (which the devs have already asked about), new aircraft and new maps. I'm looking forward to see what more it has to offer, I'll see you in the air, preferably in my sights :P
