If you are buying RBI Baseball you should know what you are getting before you download it. You are not getting a super polished hyper realistic baseball **** are getting the new iteration of a classic baseball arcade game. RBI Baseball 19 scratches your itch for a baseball on Switch and Xbox One that no other available game can, and if you have a PS4, can be a lighter alternative to MLB The Show that is obviously the leader in the slim class. It does a lot of things well, like the clean simple menus, fully updated rosters and adequate game modes. I am not usually left wanting for features when i play this game. The actual gameplay is fine to me as well. there are somethings that take some getting used to, like how you move the batter and pitcher around. there are no animations for adjusting your players position on the mound or in the batters box, instead moving them around just like you would in the NES/SNES version. i loved the nod to the classic games. the same nostalgia pang was present when i hit my first pop fly and the old school sound effect played for the fly ball. Overall the game play is consistent and satisfying. There are a lot of opportunities that RBI Baseball has for its devs to work on for next year. Pitching seems really underdeveloped, not popping up the traditional pitch type selection menu, instead letting you hold up for a slow/junk ball pitch, or down for a fast ball. you control left to right positioning/movement with the same stick. I never feel like i have a huge impact on the pitching of the game. Hitting can be frustrating as well. At first you feel like you have to swing way early to connect, but once you get the timing down, and figure out to hit up or down to affect the power of your hit it gets easier and more fun. The only other complaint i have is the lack of commentary in the game. the only noise is ballpark sounds. so crowd noise, umps and PA announcer. While game commentators always get old, you get used to it being there and it feels oddly dead without it. having music playing in the background would have been a nice option to break up the dead air. There also is the occasional hitch when swinging or fielding, but they are few and far between. Overall this game is worth the $30 price tag and something i would recommend if you are looking for a baseball game fix! Hope they continue to improve the series.

I am only on the 2nd boss battle (level) but am really enjoying this game, despite how bad i apparently am at it. It is challenging, but its not cheap. you can figure out what you need to do, and how to do it fairly easily. The thing that i feel keeps this from being an excellent game is the controls. It controls fine, and is a throwback to the standard Contra or Metal Slug controls, but it could have been better if it incorporated a twin stick approach like something like Hive Jump did. It takes a while to get used to moving and aiming with the same stick, and it never really allows you to be deadly accurate. The game is well designed, runs perfect on Switch, and for the money has a ton of value packed in. Pick it up if you have an itch for a good shooter/boss rush game.

I was not expecting to like Hive Jump as much as I do. I have tried to describe this game to my friends and it changes every time I do. The most accurate description that i can think of would be: "It's like a 2D platforming Halo/Doom game mixed with a turn based tactical game. The game play is really smooth and holds up well to a lot going on during hectic "swarms" when enemies multiply and attack more aggressively than usual. This game looks like it was plucked out of the 16 bit era, but you can tell there is more going on under the hood. The first time that i saw an enemy go off the screen and I forgot about it, only to have it track me down a few moments later I knew the rules of old 16 bit shooters were out the window. Enemies don't go away when they go off screen, so tracking them and blind firing just off screen will result in a satisfying rain of "goo" which acts as the in game currency. It adds a level of realism to a otherwise pleasantly unrealistic game. Hive Jump is a throw back to older more difficult games, not pulling punches, or serving up easy to beat level bosses. There is an interesting mechanic in regards to re spawning, having the player wear a backpack that ejects when they die, and having to keep the backpack out of harms way until you re spawn . That part can be really intense and nerve racking if you are in a tight spot. The game offers 4 player local multiplayer on the Switch version which I have not tried out, but as much fun as the game is from a solo perspective, this game would be a blast with friends. think Gauntlet Legends multiplayer with space bugs and a slew of upgradable weapons. The last thing to talk about would be those upgrades. before and several times in each level you can choose and upgrade your load out for your "Jumper" choosing the gun, grenade, and "back pack perk". All of the upgrades are done with "Goo" which you get from killing evil space bugs. The Goo does introduce an interesting risk reward system that may tempt you to take on extra fights in tough terrain in order to farm more goo vs ending the stage safely. Overall for the price I cannot recommend Hive Jump enough. To me it is the kind of game that Nintendo would have made if they came out with a SNES 2 instead of making the jump to 3d with the N64. The controls are tight, the enemies are engaging and satisfying to kill, and the story line and writing are better than have to be for a $10 indie game. The only reason I took a point off for was the lack of online co-op on Switch, which is probably not really on the devs vs Nintendo not having a great online service at the moment. Give this one a shot and kill some bugs!
