Always-online single player games should not exist as it was a 70 dollar brick for over 30 hours shortly after launch. Throw in a bunch of extra microtransactions, INCREASE the prices of them AFTER journalists publish their reviews and you have now eroded customer trust to the point that you deserve a 0/10
It's 2022, From Software still haven't fixed a single thing wrong with this game. Running it on today's hardware with dsfix is still an optimization mess. Instead of putting out any patches they tried to sell us a remastered version. Ha.
Everything feels like a side activity and Steph's voice actor doesn't have the range to handle the writing she's given. She sounds great as a DJ, but never turns that off
Game has crashed on me 7 times. It corrupted my save twice. I've been playing this 5 hr game for 13 hours so far and I'm debating if I even want to finish it. It's too broken to sell
It was much better than I was expecting. It's obviously gorgeous to look at, a little stiff to control, but that stiffness in controls doesn't hurt your chances at a good experience. It was sufficiently scary, but those scares were jump scares most of the time. The "keep calm" rhythmic heartbeat mechanic worked well to building tension and the mysteries were very cool. I hope we can get more lore relating to what happened on this ship in the future installments. I got a "bad ending" and it was still satisfying.
The magic of this game is that every abstract action you take as a player fits thematically with the story on screen. It's a well designed game with a tightly told story that took around an hr to finish
Unlikable characters, no ability to create multiple saves or recall decisions so if you don't make it you have to restart the entire game. I wanted to like it but the narrative wasn't nearly strong enough for how limited everything else was.
Bad combat encounters, bad dialogue, bad writing, bad story, bad progression, bad controls, bad enemy ai, good graphics. I didn't even try multiplayer.
The arc of season 1 ends after episode 4. Episode 5 is a standalone epilogue leading into further stand alone adventures in 6-8. Acting is alright as long as you choose male protagonist to get patton oswalt. Watching these characters fumble through predictable situations can be entertaining but grows old as youve already figured out the situation long before the characters have. You can see the pen strokes in the writing and anticipate every "emotional hook" due to the on-the-nose writing. But hey, its an easy platinum with some moments of cool cinematography
Ive been a telltale apologist for too long. Xbox one controller doesnt work with this game. The official windows 10 pc controller is not supported. I made it 2 minutes into the game before it became impossible to progress because the triggers dont work. I didnt even have a chance to see the rest of the bugs.
The writing is on par with the tv series, which means its a big step down for telltale. There are contrivances in the plot and some absolutely dreadful flashbacks that create artificial tension in the present.
Telltale, just fix your engine. I enjoy the upgraded shaders and lighting and the qte ui is improved slightly over past telltale games. It's still telltale through and through, but the characters came off as pretty one dimensional in this episode. Looking forward to the next ones but this could never stand alone
The 1.02 patch fixed all of the framerate problems firewatch launched with. Dialogue is absolutely seamless which is really gratifying. You feel like you are directing real conversations. It's actually really impressive how precise the dialogue is with the exception of one part (avoiding spoilers here) i decided to squash a particular suspician of one of the characters. When she rephrased i reiterated that i thought she was wrong again. Then 5 minutes after i had made it to the end of the story and those dialogue decisions were not taken into account for the ending. There isnt much meat here, both in terms of depth and breadth. But what you get is a game with a story structure that is very unique, some pretty vistas and a little gated open world that you will know instinctively how to navigate by the end. Worth 10-15 usd imho
Game is thoroughly unbalanced, boring, bugridden, close to impossible to play offline, and not likely to improve in the future. Ive reached out to the devs to see if any workarounds existed for the various bugs or if a patch was being worked on and never received a response, sony tech support told me to rebuild the vita database which didnt fix anything. You are left with agame that was meant to have microtransactions with gameplay meant for an iphone. Its disapointing because tycoon games are sorely lacking and the vita seems like a great place to put them.
Forced mouse acceleration, mouselook has higher sensitivity horizontally than it does vertically, uninteresting dialogue, overall conversation system with the exception of the good persuasion system is not very good, with awful cinematography and a penchant for pulling you out of the scene if you even touch your mouse. broken quests, and bloated and reused content. And this is just from 2 hours of play. I'll update the review after i rebuy it after seeing proof that its issues have been resolved. But dont pay 60 dollars to be a beta tester.
Hard freezes, bsods, and garbage crossfire support. The same kind of issues that gta 4 had bring down a great game to a mediocre port. Voice acting is great but the characters leave a lot to be desired. Side activities are numerous but not much fun.
im 94 hours in and i've barely scratched the surface of all there is to do. and what's more, the stuff to do has a unique and well written story behind even the smallest sidequest. also despite a graphics downgrade controversy this is still the best looking open world game on any platform, so if thats not good enough for you im not sure what is.
A simple game with some obvious flaws (the same somber music starts everytime you open the menu, which happens a lot as you examine collectibles, rifle through historical context, and read diary entries) but complex in its tight-knit story and well fleshed out characters. It accomplishes exactly what it sets out to accomplish.
As someone who wasn't particularly taken with both the borderlands universe and it's brand of comedy, I was pleasantly surprised by how telltale has managed to fill those valleys with its own brand of humor and bring to life the world of Pandora in a new way. Looking forward to future episodes.
Significantly buggy on ps4. 2 freezes that lasted over a minute, one never recovered, a continuity error with rhys's wardrobe that ignored a choice I made completely. Random repetition of dialogue and skipping of dialogue halfway through a sentence. And overall a halfbaked episode, with only botloader providing any laughs.
It was a nice game, well paced, with obsessive attention to detail. It gave me a nice fuzzy feeling, some nostalgia, and a hefty dose of melancholy. Every character is flawed and has a subplot worth uncovering. Worth checking out and getting through in one go, which takes a couple hours.
Some genuinely great scares, tense moments, and an awfully obtuse last "puzzle" that takes the wind out of its sails. Still the potential is there for Silent Hills to scratch just the right horror itch, if only kojima can restrain himself from overdesigning it.
Unresponsive controls and unoriginal game design bring this game down to being unplayable. It's like if an fps made you decide to look around or shoot but you couldn't do both. That'd be frustrating and broken. Here you have to stop stabbing/ shooting in order to turn around to shoot or stab in the other direction which limits your ability to clear out groups. It apes the art style of contra and the active reload mechanic from gears of war but does not marry these two in any meaningful way
For South park fans it's an absolute must-play. I heard some of the same songs a few too many times, but the mechanics are solid and level design is crazy good (especially the Mr. Slave and Canada levels)
While it hits the right notes on the "disturbing" scale sometimes, it devolves into trial and error more often than I'm comfortable with. Some enemies kill you in one hit, and with no Dodge mechanic that means when you get stuck on a wall (which happens all the time due to your field of view being so tiny) you are grabbed and have to watch the same death cutscene over and over again. It's not that the game is hard, it's an artificial difficulty to extend the playtime. After seeing the same animations 5 times it is no longer shocking or scary. This game is at its best in noncombat scenarios when you are moving the plot forward, and at its worst when you are participating in the "exciting" game play parts. Simply stated: you will have much better scares and gameplay mechanics in amnesia the dark descent, a much better story in amnesia a machine for pigs, and much better gore in dead space 2. If you can get it for 5 dollars you can say it was money well spent but otherwise there's not much to praise here.
Naughty dog has outdone themselves again. The story draws you in to loving characters based on how human their flaws are and has a distinct Cohen brothers style of ending that makes you think about the characters and how nuanced they are. All of this is built on top of a sturdy foundation of stealth gameplay and a great leveling system. It's broken into 4 chapters that all have the emotional impact to stand on their own.
updated after 7:30 of playtime: shooter mechanics do not translate well to human enemies, the story doesn't make too much sense and characters are bland and annoying fetch quest givers. the story is not good so far. i've had 1 good jumpscare while opening up an elevator, but still no no grossout scares, the soundtrack is moody and rings of strange sci-fi once you get to the ice planet of tau volantis, strings swell when enemies are near but that gets old and predictable very fast. the new crafting system is absurdly convoluted, especially at the beginning of the game. the framerate is locked at 30fps with vsync turned on and the screen tearing is noticeable and ugly. they let you tinker with many many graphical options in the settings menu, (the developers really sold themselves short saying that this was a straight port) ssao, antisotropic filtering, bloom, flares, and the like, nothing will make this game shine, but if you have an older computer they let you turn off a bunch of settings to get it to run. the microtransactions are in your face every time you are in the crafting menu and since you are crafting with these random different currencies, you may be able to fully upgrade your air capacity the first first time you stop at a rig suit upgrade station. the sense of accomplishment when upgrading your suit and weapons isn't as great anymore since it is bogged down with these random resource currencies, it feels like you are buying an upgrade, whereas in the first two games you were soldering a node onto metal. health and ammo drop rates need to be reduced drastically as well. almost 8 hours in and i have not run out of ammo or health once. and for those looking for an fov slider, you can change it by editing the ini config file in your appdata. once again, we have a consolized game with 11 different day1 dlcs, another story dlc coming in a month, microtransactions in a 60 dollar game and a port designed for pcs from 6 years ago. if i were you i would wait until you find this game for 40 dollars or less and that is being generous. all brought to you by your friendly neighborhood ea games. i hope your stockholders are happy.
thankfully the harsh drm was removed (now its a one-time activation through uPlay) but that won't save a game that removes features that made splinter cell great. you cannot hide bodies anymore, sam seems totally against stealth. the cover system is pretty great and the game is pretty. the story is pretty decent too with a creative ending sequence. but the online co-op doesnt work without MASSIVE hassle. you have to manually open ports, that means looking at your exact make and model for your router, finding your internal ip address, logging into your router's website (which you usually need to make another account for) and generally scouring forums for hours. it is a pain, and after beating the single player game in 8 hours, there was only about 1 hour of which gave me the feeling of being sam when i got the sonar goggles. if it's on sale for less than 10 dollars and you don't mind a massive shift in gameplay, you may find the story worth checking out, otherwise this was a very bad direction for a very good series to go. here's hoping that blacklist doesn't drop the ball as hard.
after a rocky launch squenix proved that they care about their customers and continue to patch the game (version 1.9 already!) its a great pc port with great performance, great voice acting, and good looking textures. and the melee fighting system is amazing.

while it's certainly dated now, i remember having just stopped hunting due to it being a mostly boring activity, and hiding my sneer at my dad when he got me this game for xmas "to get me back into hunting." then i popped it in and realized that this was a pretty competent shooter, tracking was fun, and while it was low budget and a bit campy (irl i just hunt whitetail deer, turkey, pheasant, and goose, no dangerous animals) i genuinely had a good time with it. the graphics were pretty good for their time, animations on reloads were good and environments were pretty but could get very constrained with "forest" invisible walls and weird "cliff face" narrow valleys to walk through. i still think often of that bear towards the end of the game, you hear it roar and walking through the misty alpine forests it brought me back to my childhood thinking of disney's the fox and the hound. having a big bear in a mostly empty forest brought the same feeling of intrinsic wonder and adventure that i had gotten bored of with real hunting.
it's shooter mechanics are nothing to write home about, and the controls seem odd and unintuitive. melee is bound to the vault over cover button but taking cover is bound to the sprint button? doesnt make much sense. thankfully spec ops brings a well paced and brain melting story. every gamer should play this for that alone
this deep into the game series i feel like my choices are no longer my own anymore; this action is what "my Lee" would do, that's why i choose it. the characters are so good that i no longer look at them based on how useful they might be. i make decisions based on whether they need ME. that goes pretty deep for a video game based on a comic book about zombies. i just hope i wont be forced to choose between red blue and green explosions in episode 5
i can't get behind a game where they misspell apocalypse in their official trailer. that coupled with developers writing fake reviews just screams how unprofessional they are. i want my $5 back.
i would have given it a 10 if i could bind my key for sprinting, taking cover, exiting cover, rolling, entering dialogue, interacting with objects, climbing up ledges, jumping off of ledges/ ladders and whatever the hell else the spacebar did in this game to separate keys. we have 128 keys, allow us to use them to avoid this ridiculously clumsy control scheme. I would have given it a 9 if their were any graphical options besides the resolution and anti-aliasing. i would have given it an 8 if day one dlc was not inside of the files and COMPLETELY necessary to the story. I would have given it a 7 if online multiplayer was optional to having a good story in the single player ( after finishing ALL of the fetch quests in the entire game i still had only 3200 "war assets" and thus was damned into receiving... the WORST ending of any trilogy i've ever seen/read/played. (this now drops the score TWO MORE points because it is a carnal sin in my book to destroy a story with a bad ending.) It's so illogical, anti-lore oriented, and obviously rushed. We are now at a score of 5. Since Bioware is responding to the outcry about how disappointed people were by the game by releasing free dlc to add clarity to the ending, this review will absolutely be subject to change.
This game exudes polish. it is so organically presented and real attention was paid to color palettes, voice-over work and timing. its a gorgeous game that tells a cryptic yet emotional tale. it's a shame that it only takes an hour and a half to experience it, but i see it as a massive step in the right direction for games being finally taken seriously as an artistic medium. you don't have to solve puzzles to get past a door, but to understand the story better you have to look and really listen. it is an interesting gameplay mechanic, i am guessing the drawing board in their offices said "look, this is a story, but we're gonna tell it in a way that television, movies, books, paintings and photographs (and other games for that matter) have never been able to do." that is an achievement.
this game had nothing fresh about it when it was released and still is an example of why those who do not play games can make fun of those who do. this main character is a plastic shell of a woman, but hey she has huge **** and gets naked when she goes in beast mode for some reason? ignoring that the story elements and visuals were meant for a horny boy just hitting the very start of puberty, the game has literally no art direction what-so-ever. it is a button masher that relies on combos and steals what little style it has from devil may cry, which wasn't very good to begin with. it is an embarrassment to gaming that this exists, and even more so that people reviewed it well just because they saw some tit pixels.
not worth the money. the npcs are outrageously annoying, the story is built for the mind of a 5th grader and nothing you get in this dlc will supplement your playing the actual game. it is a complete ripoff of portals characters and comedy style except with unbearably sub-par voice acting. some lines are literally stolen straight from portal and portal 2! if you care about the story and environments you'd do better with the lonesome road dlc, a much more useful one imho
the environments are incredible and truly organic, the characters... well they're better than the ones in oblivion hahaha but the gameplay is much more refined this time around, the weather effects are great and the world is massive and varied. i would recommend it to anyone
Modern Warfare 3 tries soooo hard to refine its gameplay experience by combining aspects from black ops and mw2 and ends up creating an even more ridiculous, completely unbalanced, unrealistic, unimpressive ctrl-c, ctrl-v. character animations have been stagnant since modern warfare 1, gun models look like plastic toys, the sense of scope is tiny, and the fact that they actually ask gamers to pay 60 dollars for this is absurd. then on top of that they throw in this "premium service" called call of duty elite. its a stat tracker with some clan management and a discount for their crap map packs that they release monthly. that is 50 dollars a year. they have taken what was once a great series stripped it of its roots and used it as a cash cow. mw1 great, mw2 mediocre, blops horrible. mw3 for 110 dollars? an abortion.
