RPG Maker MV8
Apr 26, 2021
MV is a good RPG maker software (after it reached version 1.6. every version before that had big issues) The advantage of MV over it's predecessors is that you can now makes games for Linux, Mac, Web and mobile. Where the predecessors were always limited to PC. However in comparison to the new MZ, you should not bother to use this system and just go to the new version.

I love this open world/fixed path/one level system. The skill leveling is great. It is not perfect on the party/carrying capacity, but it is a real limitation. Sometimes I had to rework the order of items to make more fit as the auto sort does not move things for a best fit. Otherwise I have no negative points except maybe that it is old and you need to use a patch to make it work well. Now Dungeon Siege III is horrible in comparison except that it is likely to work better on your computer.

Evoland 2: A Slight Case of Spacetime Continuum Disorder4

The game would have been higher except for the multiple stealing of game concepts. A top down shooter. wasn't too bad after I figured out that I could just hold CTRL and it would keep shooting. But forcing a person to complete this in order to continue with the game? NO! This needed to be a bonus side game. Then you go and steal Mortal Kombat game play. THIS IS A RPG!!!!!!! Fortunately I found a cheat to win that battle. It's been a few weeks now and I don't remember why, but I deleted the game because of stupid things like what I mentioned. There was something I had to do and I said F**K it, this ****. This was an unfortunate discovery as I loved the first one.

I give a 10 for game idea and story. I give a 5 for game complexity. I managed to go the wrong way several times and had to Google the steps to figure out where I was supposed to go. That makes it open world type, but it is really a fixed path. The two were not mixed well. I give a 0 for difficulty. While there is no setting for changing the difficulty, it is a must for any game. I am a player that wants to enjoy a game, not curse and swear at it for being to hard (too fast, too much damage, my reaction skills very poor, my understanding of using tactics in this game) After spending several hours getting nowhere I used the easy mode MOD and then I was able to get about half way through before giving up and deleting the game.

This is a great game making tool and is quite adaptable with some programming knowledge. The factors that keep it from being a 10 is that it has a screen size resolution limit - 640x480, and if you were to add a ton of functions or try to overcome the screen size limit, you will end up sacrificing the frame rate.

I am reluctant to give a 10 as I found the game play to be fairly hard. Making it very difficult for myself to enjoy it more. Otherwise I was happy with the story and the ability to adjust the difficulty - you would not get past some parts without making it easier.

Game play on easy is just as hard as the highest level. Playing this will result in yourself getting very familiar with the "Restart Mission" button. Enemy AI is horrible. Mission objectives are nearly impossible to get 100% every time. It's not so much of a 'play the game', but more of a 'you have to do this to complete the mission'. Leaving very little in the way of strategy, and more of a 'move to this location or else you will get pummeled'. Percentage chance for your weapons to hit is very luck driven, not percentage driven. You can have all weapons that have 95% change to hit and only half will. The game does have some enjoyment to it, but the constant 'Restart Mission', 'Restart Mission', 'Restart Mission' wears you down really fast. This is the primary reason for my low rating. There is always a reason to restart the mission. And as a bonus the game sometimes freezes. Leaving you to redo the mission you just finished if you didn't get a chance to save.
