Evoland is a frustrating affair. Its premise is great and it has potential to spare, but instead of an inspired retro journey all you get is a combination of lazy jokes, bland Zelda-esque gameplay and numbingly tedious JRPG battles. [June 2013]

As an introduction to old-school classics, Evoland is just too boring, and most veterans are not that nostalgic to blindly forgive its shoddy attempts at game design.

Evoland is a great concept but comes across as more of a “proof of concept” than an original adventure. There are some great ideas here, but too much time is spent paying tribute to its RPG predecessors than it does crafting an identity of its own. Shiro Games has a great concept here, now they need to build on it.

It's a good game. You start with 8bit graphics (the old nintendo style) and it keeps upgrading throughout the game. The story is fairly decent. The characters are okayish. There's a medium amount of running around / grinding. However, had I known that the card unlocks don't serve any purposes I would have unlocked the game a lot faster.Evoland 2 on the other hand was horrible. There was a particular point where you need to do various tasks inside a town (hide and seek, serving customers etc). Such a bad experience talking to all NPCs! There's no way to skip dialog and they talk 5-6 dialogs of text.I uninstalled after 2 hours of searching through the minigame (with no other exit point). Hence, I'll change my recommendation to "No".

Upgrade your RPG, going through a history of different eras and art styles. A concept that sells the game itself. The execution can be a bit clunky at times, but still thoroughly enjoyable and quite a unique experience.

Evoland is a game that evokes nostalgic feelings in old veteran players but that probably will leave the younger ones, despite an extremely fun gameplay hybrid, disappointed.

Evoland has to be appreciated for what it is, which is less "game" and more "journey traveled." Nostalgia's a hot selling piece these past few years.

Evoland lives off your nostalgia, which, in turn, is the only reason for you to keep on playing it. After the first 30 minutes, where the evolutionary steps come in entertainingly swift succession, the game actually stops evolving much, settling for a mixture of mindless fighting and lowbrow puzzles, chucking in the occasional graphics update. Also, it promises to be a virtual history lesson of the genre, only to perpetually being stuck on A Link to the Past and Final Fantasy VII. Evoland early on just loses track of what it set out to do.

The first time I saw this game,I loved the idea of Evoland and I think the game looks also nice. The story was not the best,but for this game it is good enough.

Игра мне не понравилась. Причины: нет цели, нет почти никаких препятствий, игра зачем то, не начиная сюжет, добавляет его в конце и даже его не заканчивает. Итог: игра может вызывать ностальгические чувства, но она не совсем закончена, еще хотелось бы полноценого сюжета. Не стоит воспринимать игру всерьёз потомучто она просто расказывает нам о эволюции rpg, игровых клише разного времени и развития графики и визуальных эфектов. Игра просто ничего не делает чтобы быть интересной, например можно было поэксперементировать с жанрами, сделать все динамичнее.

The concept and idea of this game is something fresh and briliant, but it kinda fails in delivery. There is no actual gameplay. Its just a 3 hours of jokes and poking at other things as LOTR, Zelda, League of legends, Diablo etc. I was smiling throughout the game at some of these things, but you dont even need to play it just look at some youtube letsplay and you will gain the same experince, This game is jsut a huge troll, i am giving extra points for the first part of game when you are actually upgrading and it keeps you kinda entertained after a while, huge downfall.
