After 20 hours, I've decided that this game just isn't going to be fun enough to finish. Exploration is punishing. It's hard to find a new beacon to start fully going through a new zone. I usually end up dying and having to work my way back. Enemies are always clustered in at least three and can't be pulled to strategically fight. Every battle turns into a chaotic mess because a whole group will aggro in concert. The player can't try to control the circumstances. The game just makes everything always attack at once. This is a false sense of difficulty. There is no saving at the start of dungeons. Player fight animations have made me fall off paths and cliffs countless times. I also get stuck in the terrain. After all this time, I still get odd moments of lag and crashes. Save your money and play something better developed and mechanically sound.

This romp through King Graham's past is a fun change of pace from the Bloodbornes and Witchers we've all been immersed in as of late. The game is gorgeous and features a fun sense of humor. There is a decent mix of puzzle solving, arcade-game antics reminiscent of Dragon's Lair, and some Tell Tale-style quick scenes. I appreciated the choices the game presented, especially at the end. As King Graham says, "There's nothing wrong with cheating a cheater!" If you're familiar with Sierra's past games, this is a great trip back in time with all the beauty of today's graphics. I would've given the game a 10, but the stalling in animation and skipping with Graham walking was a problem. Also, The Odd Gentlemen might consider a mini-map-fast travel solution to remedy having to tolerate Graham's gait when the player really has a new idea to try across the chapter's world.

I bought this game at release and am still waiting to truly enjoy it. Everything feels like a chore. My issues: -Combat is basically hopping around and then striking. The quen shield is sort of useful. None of the other spells really add anything exciting. -Combat and movement in general are horribly clunky. It feels like swimming in molasses. I'm coming off playing Bloodborne, so I guess it's hard to have an experience as good as that game's dynamic fighting. Tracking enemies is stupidly hard as the lock on skips around. -Along with movement, the mount and looting are are far more complicated than they should be. Overstepping things should be a game achievement. -This is not an open world. It's like Dragon Age: Inquisition where they story pushes you from large zone to large zone. -The story? ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. -Items? Jesus. How much crap do I need? Why do RPGs feel like loading me up like a pack horse equals awesomeness? -Weapon durability. I have to repair my swords after every 5-6 encounters. Basically, I do not get they hype.

Some quick facts about me: 1. I am NOT a hardcore gamer. 2. I never played Demon Souls or Dark Souls. 3. I wanted to rage quit but then stuck with not returning or selling the game! Don't give up! With that info in mind, let me say that anyone can get into Bloodborne. Learning the weapons and combat is challenging. Repeating areas, something others complain about, forces you to hone your play style. I'm using the threaded cane and am not used to a weapon getting better as I progress in a game. The boss fights are insane, and there really is a sense of accomplishment when you succeed. Hell, I've even felt elated just finding strats to take down simple mobs because they are usually not very simple. In short, nothing is handed to you and you earn every accomplishment. I haven't felt this challenged and sometimes very frustrated in years. Even the story is largely in your hands to interpret. There are also boatloads of videos of pro players to help if you're out of ideas. Some cons: 1. FPS can dip, especially when NPCs are near fire. 2. Load times need to be fixed between deaths and traveling. One simple truth: 1. Like any game, but this one in particular, you will have moments when you want to throw the controller through the wall. Then you calm down and get back to having fun.
