Promising Young Woman9

Before #metoo, its will always hard to defend yourself as a young woman, maybe one day one night, you were drunk, and somebody did something sexual to you, and do you think there is somebody will believe you, and that somebody was just a fifty, rich, white boy? But you were also young girl living in a suburb family, could this possible lead to justify what he did could that trauma lead to you to the end? Cassie, undergoing grieve for 7 years of her BFF, because she was not go with her to the party that day, blaming herself forever that her friend suicide over the **** in the party, and no justice happened for the white boy, yet everybody knew, but no one tells, no one believe her but that boy, and no matter what, boys will always protect each other, also the women. Carey Mulligan is FANTASTIC, she process the emptiness, the grieve, happily in love, madness and determination for revenge. Emerald Fennell wrote such script, have such meaning of the society for their preference or truth, the rich will always protect each other. Everyone has it shinning moment but MULLIGAN is EVERYTHING. The story is so impactful, tasteful, surely a lot of men will not believe anything what a person could go through, no one said all the men are evil, this story is hard to get over, it will stay in your head for a while because of it, the story reflex of real life, not just harassing, even today some critic trying to gang up for Mulligan, because Mulligan criticized one critic that she is not Hot enough or not Maggot Robbie who has been doing similar characters, blindly protecting or defending each other no matter it's wrong or not. a lot of today's situation is similar to this particular pastern, its stall in it system of this society, will people ever think about it, is it right or wrong? Even with #metoo, its doesn't change anyone how they believe in, will people know about it will tell it? Will they only believe it only a lot of people who experienced it and telling it? there surely a lot of issues around it society, but Promising Young Woman perfectly tell a story, and give its story perfect ending.

I can't imagine being a pregnant woman, losing her child right after giving birth to her, besides that no one understand her or be with her, she basically handling her grieve all by her own , and got pushed to go to the court, Vanessa Kirby is subtly amazing, Ellen Burstyn's monologue is weird. Molly Parker is charming and warm through the scenes, really could just have a film surround Molly Parker's character. I didn't care about Shia LaBeouf, as him assaulting her grieving partner physically and emotionally, grad him left the story as he went to Seattle. The film is trying so hard to connect the dot that how Martha loves apple, always having an apple on her hand, when the trio for her is over and her grieve is over, Martha is using it to growing apple seed, and then at the end of the movie, suddenly her new baby girl climbing up the apple tree by the house, to have an apple, while Martha coming out from the house, and telling her to have dinner, is that really necessary?? that is weird move.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom8

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is a play by August Wilson, which developed into a movie, with the stage play background of the script, the full on-and-on dialogue in the movie make you feel like it's still stagy, but cinematography deliver of 1920's Chicago. Chadwick Boseman's Levee raw and deep emotion telling his story about his mother and father, mother's ****, and his belief of god, Boseman is truly fantastic. Viola Davis is not convincing as a singer of Ma Rainey, she failed of the lip-syning performance, her mouth is not conving me she is singing, obviously there voice-over on the singing as Viola did sing a little bit, Viola did not understand the physiology of mouth when human is singing. Overall, her performance is great, sometimes she slip a little modern accent, but the sad thing is her character is underdevelopment, not enough back story, other than her explanation of how white men took advantages of her voice, almost all the time in diva mood. Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman and Michael Potts are all great supporting act.

The Prom6

The movie is fine, the source of material is not great to begin with, the songs are not that good, the only great thing about this movie is Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells. Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman have all the fun they can. Keegan-Michael Key is charismatic and convincing. Andrew Rannells just doing whatever he always do. other performance is fine. the early review make me think that James Cordon is so bad, but to me it isn't, he is fine, not the way i imagining how bad he could be. but those dramtic turn of people accepting people to be gay with deeply belief could only ever be happen in musical but reality.

Sound of Metal8
Dec 16, 2020
The movie follows Riz Ahmed's character journey from being a musician to deaf, and to seeking help and medical recovery, and in the journey to rediscovering who he is, what we hear in the majority of the sound what Ruben have heard, also reflect of reality what normal person can hear. Riz Ahmed is great, subtle performance which still see his emotion changes through the journey. Paul Paci, who is fantastic in this role, his character is so emotionally connect to Ruben, he wants the best for him but also he has to protect the community. Cooke is great. hope to see both Ahmed and Paci to be nominated.

Family Drama was written by JD, which the movie by Ron Howard leave out plenty of politic out the film, but the family drama about single mother, raise 2 kids and having trouble with father passing away, Amy Adams is a revolution as a drug-addicted-single mother, Glenn Close is marvelous as Mamaw, Gabriel Basso lead, voice his story his glow-up story as JD. Score is amazing.
