It's VERY hard to believe that the same director who gave us The Dark Knight gave us this mess of a movie. Good acting, but no character overall. It's just...bland. Don't waste your money.

Why is this considered an above average movie completely blows my mind. Yes, political. Yes, dark comedy. But it's nothing more than a well made action flick, not far away your standard Steven Segal or Van Damn movie. Worth watchin? Yes. Masterpiece? Abaolutely not.

Setting aside that there is no reason to disrupt F4 canon's by changing the silver surfer to a woman...other than a DEI **** movie has a well developed backdrop that gives a nostalgic 60s-70s futuristic vibe, BUT it's plagued with bad CGI (especially with the baby) and a truly mediocre script at times. The director assumes that we all know the characters by heart and therefore doesn't spend time making you like the characters...they just ****. The movie ends and you keep waiting for that climax that most of these type of action movies have. This one in particular just navigates through a state of "ok"ness all-throughout the movie. I'm amazed people are giving it anything above a 5.

TL;DR: Do not watch **** will end up feeling awful for having lost the money instead of spending it in something enjoyable. I obviously was not gonna spend any of my hard-earned money on this given the barrage of bad review, so a friend dl a cam-recording and all the gang decided it was as good as any excuse to hand out and have a couple of b33rs. Let me put it this way: by the time the movie was half-way through, it was just background noise to us...THAT bad. We tried to watch **** really tried. But the movie is just so badly made: the plot, the EXCESSIVE CGI and the overall lack of flow this movie has makes it un-watchable.I hope Disney looses a lot of money with this so they can finally stop the woke madness that has resulted in so many awful movies **** unfortunately they will not, because lots of parents are taking their kids to see this movie which will eventually earn back the investment and Disney will make a statement saying "it was a success".

Overall quite an entertaining film, with an original story that is well developed (at least enough so you can understand the backstory of things). I also enjoyed the time the film takes to develop the character's life in loneliness, which serves as a justification for later decisions they make in the movie. It's not a great film, but it's a decent action flick.

This is a great movie overall, especially if you consider it was released in 1989. The animation if gorgeous, the topics it touches are sensible, the development of characters if quite good, and the open ending (even though it's left open to speculation) is very fulfilling. For many it's one of the best anime **** I have to agree.

First of all I understand why the critics love it, since the pair of main actors deliver a great performance. HOWEVER, in terms of the level of entertainment, the movie does fall short. Yes, the script might be great (especially if you like long monologues) and it touches delicate subjects (like suicide and the holocaust) in a sensitive way. BUT it's still a very "bland" movie: the story is very horizontal; no climax and scarce funny moments. Overall, a very forgettable movie.

The chemistry between the two main characters that's supposed to develop in these type of films is never present. Even though the premise is interesting and Sandra is a charming goof... the movie just doesn't spark that feel-good joy that any love-story-with-a-happy-ending should provoke.

I ****'s enterainint, yes. But is it a great movie? Definitely not. Action sequences are a tad-lame and some [although not all] of the script is a bit lame too. Photography is borderline bad as well as the music score (sounds like a Disney movie rather than a nordic epic movie). I watched the movie because a friend's recommendation... and it does supply you with enough nordic extravaganza to make you want to reach the end... but there's nothing to justify a second watch.

Movie develops the story slowly but thoroughly by feeding the viewer constantly new information about what's happening in the city. The ambience and photography are superb: they make the city an immersive dystopia without overdoing CGI. The ending gives a nice closure to it all, even though it leaves a couple of gaps while thinking what's next for the characters (that would've needed a sequel). In general a very entertaining film if you like film-noir and sci-fi.

In general a very well produced musical and great casting overall (especially for the two main characters). The reason I don't give this a 10 is that the movie is waaaa too slow in its progression of events...which is in turn generated by the constant musical performances. So it's not so much a flaw of the movies but a matter of personal taste: if you love musicals, you'll love this one.

TL;DR: This movie is being overly hyped just because it touches the subject of "female beauty standards". The movie is **** it IS NOT great. If you watch it with this in mind, you'll enjoy it way more than if you expect a masterpiece. Detailed review: The director's intention of making this a "different" movie is evident since the start with the use of wide (i.e. fisheye) shots and general vibe of the movie. I didn't mind this at first, but as the movie progressed the over-use of these tropes becomes annoying. Artistic-style aside, the movie DOES have a solid start... it gives you an overall glimpse of the frustration of the main character and does a good job setting the environment for what's to come. The movie's main character here is [as the title suggests] "the substance", so once it comes into play the movie starts getting a little bit interesting. However, once the plot comes to this point, everything starts becoming predictable and soon it becomes tedious instead of entertaining. The movie's worst offender BY FAR, though, is the ending: it could have EASILY have ended 20min before the actual ending and I would've given it a 5 or 6... but the way the director stretches the climax towards the end is just way too exaggerated and the film in general feels forced... as if they still had some budget left and wanted to burn it with some additional unnecessary takes. This results in an overall movie that has a good premise, decent cast and decent script, but its general execution falls short.

Entertaining (to some extent), but the COMPLETE lack of character development throughout the movies makes it seem like something that was made in a rush. The environment was well crafted and there is SOME witty lines said every now and then... but it's all in general quite predictable and overall unimpressive. Honestly, quite a waste because it had great actors, a well developed lore (thanks to several iterations of the games) and a decent **** bad writing and directing killed this opportunity of making something awesome.

A decent movie, with the classic "**** that isn't the real ****" character building semi-romantic tension through the movie with the main character. All-in-all, an entertaining **** nothing memorable. No re-watch for this one. Watch it on a sunday night with the wife if you want something entertaining but neutral that doesn't generate any real feelings on you while watching.

Greats story development; great character development; great action sequences. Great movie =) The movie might seem slow sometimes, but the pace is just right in order to develop an immersive environment and portray the reality that the main character is living during times of war. I would've loved more action sequences because they are GREATLY **** still what's given is just enough to keep you engaged and remind you this is a martial-arts-master movie =)

You can definitely feel the chemistry between the two develop gradually, which is always good in this type of movies, and the ending delivers the expected feel-good.

A good movie, but not a good Fury Road contender. Unfortunately the bar was set too high by FR. This movie just doesn’t cut it: too much dialogue, very little action, and way too much CGI. These three factors just makes if a “good movie” instead of an “epic” movie if it had followed FRs guidelines. A good thing is that it does respect quite well all of Mad Max lore…so kudos for that. I was just expexting way more “witness meeeeeee!!!” moments…

While the Part One delivered a thorough introduction into the world and history behind Paul Atreides' adventure, this second part grabs the lore and transforms it into pure action. However, while the Part One exceeded in exposing the lore while lacking action, Part Two now exceeds in the action but feels like the story was a bit rushed at parts. Still a great movie, though.

It's good if you think of "european art cinema", with an our-of-the-ordinary photography (although in my opinion it abuses the use of fish-eye takes) and gorgeous sets. BUT... it just is not as entertaining (unless you like a lot of sex scenes, which the movies has plenty of). Emma Stone's is great but, then again, great acting doesn't make a great movie.
