The Idea of You

It’s a warm, approachable movie that you’ll get blissfully lost in.

This romcom offers a heady slice of appealing escapism fuelled by the chemistry between its two leads.

If they gave Oscars for bringing underwritten characters to life, Hathaway and Galitzine would be contenders.

As Solène, Hathaway gives a particularly lovely and vulnerable performance. She’s radiant as a woman reconnecting with big, swooping emotions, and reminding herself that those feelings are not the exclusive territory of the young.

Anne Hathaway basically saves it from itself.

With Hathaway at its centre, The Idea of You is on far surer footing, in small moments almost threatening to be something far greater but settling into being perfectly acceptable instead, a plane movie par excellence.

It’s stale, a relic from another time that’s strenuously updated and forced into 2024.

My expectations for The Idea of You were low, pretty low. However, the film was much better than I had anticipated. While somewhat predictable, the storyline had moments engaging enough to keep my interest. The ending of The Idea of You left a lasting impression, not because it was a standout conclusion, but because it marked the end of a journey. The relief I felt as the credits rolled was palpable, a testament to the film’s occasionally drawn-out pace. Yet, it wasn’t a complete letdown, offering some surprisingly enjoyable moments. The Idea of You may not be perfect, but it managed to surpass my admittedly low expectations, earning a respectable three out of five stars.

Good romantic movie with that doesn’t take any risks but delivers well without going downhill with excessive tropes or rom-com stereotypes. You can definitely feel the chemistry between the two develop gradually, which is always good in this type of movies, and the ending delivers the expected feel-good.

Feels and looks like a mature Nickelodeon film. Very didactic. And although the main leads are not bad, the lack of chemistry is evident. Coachella scenes are cringe af. This should've been 90 minutes.

Very foreseeable and boringin my opinion. I didnt really like the songs either. I love both Anne and Nick but this movie was just not it. It felt like a 14 year old wrote the script
