The Help9
Jan 4, 2012
This movie was so enjoyable. From the rich characters (both good and evil), the writing and pretty sets and costumes. This story could have easily devolved into sappy schlock, but I think for the most part it felt genuine. Of all the female centered stories of the South, this is one of the better movies to have come along in a long time.

Final Destination 56
Jan 4, 2012
I love the original final destination. I think the sequels have been hit or miss. This one is no exception. However, this film is one of the better sequels and there were definitely some great scenes. It was thrilling but didn't take itself too seriously.

Apollo 185

I recognized the actors from Sanctuary and Alphas so I knew the movie was fake. The first half of the movie is like most horror movies, building up tension. Unfortunately, like most horror movies once the monster is revealed, everything gets a little boring and predictable. I did like cutting choices, and the stylized sets and costumes and film; I thought it was convincingly from the late 60s - early 70s.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 14
Jan 4, 2012
I got a kindle for christmas two years ago and read all the twilight books in an 8 hour stretch because they happened to be on sale. I'd forgotten how ridiculous some of the plot (particularly the baby's name) is in the story. I think the director and screen writers stayed to close to the plot and original (bad) writing and didn't clean it up for the wider movie audience. I think these choices made the movie worse than it could have been. Still, being that I overall enjoyed the ridiculous fluff of the books, I'll probably see the final part 2 as well.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows7
Jan 4, 2012
While perhaps not as taught as the first movie, and sad to see some major characters being killed off, I thought this movie was a fun romp. There were definitely uneven points in the plot, but on the whole I laughed pretty hard at the interactions between Holmes and Watson and enjoyed the stylized Guy Ritchie action scenes. I've heard some complaints about the choice of actor for Professor Moriarty, but he was definitely creepy and intelligent enough to pull it off. I just wish Noomi Rapace hadn't been so underutilized.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol10
Jan 4, 2012
The first 3/4 of the movie are excellent. I was literally on the edge of my seat during the hotel scenes. However, it gets a tad slow as they are closing in on the master villain. Still, this was the best action movie of the year.
