Killer Instinct8
Nov 24, 2013
The game is a little light on content, but rest assured there is loads more to come... and with this price point, who can complain? Double Helix have done extremely well to haul this fighter out of the 90's abyss and have delivered a truly kick-ass product. Supreme audio and visual work, flawless netcode makes this game the killer app to own an Xbox One for. Ultraaaaa Combo!

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 36
Oct 28, 2011
The game looks really great, and the sheer number of mobile suits and pilots to unlock and use will really please Gundam fans. However i found that the levels all felt the same and the mobile suits barring a few exceptions felt too similar too each other, thus creating a strong sense of repetition early on. This will be fun for Gundam fans but even then the gameplay could have atleast tried to be a little more ambitious, varied and creative.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi2
Oct 27, 2011
The game is as bad as everyone says - in fact it is one of the worst games i have played in a long time. Combat is abysmal. Whilst RB wasn't outstanding, you could atleast move around freely, do combos and do a variety of special moves. In UT it is literally QTE QTE QTE... movement feels really restricted as there is just 2 'ranges' you can be in. The UI is confusing as hell and i found it difficult to work out how to do a special. There is no satisfaction from playing you just mash buttons and hope you get the right flip of the coin in the 'rock paper scissors' type clashes you get with the opponent. I didn't make it far enough through the story to get to a big boss battle as the combat is so dire and repetitive I had to stop playing. The story mode is poor. After doing the first mission of Bardock vs Frieza you are placed on Earth for the Raditz battle and can fly around the map (flying feels super slow btw, nothing like the TV series). Instead of going where Raditz was i went to the World Tournament that was also marked on the map as a point of interest. Suddenly i am placed in a tournament with the likes of Frieza, Cell and Android 18! So much for story lol. People have praised the graphics but i think they are worse than those in RB2. The edges are really shoddy and most of the time you can't see whats going on anyway because of the stupid camera angles and QTE. The character editor is very limited. The characters all look the same pretty much, you can change the skin colour to look a bit like a Kaioshin but other than that it's palette swapped Saiyans. I am not going to say Raging Blast 2 is an amazing game because it isn't. However I would recommend that over UT to any fan as UT is sadly complete tripe.

Mass Effect8
Apr 26, 2011
Mass Effect is one of the best adventures i've had the pleasure of playing through in recent years. The story is set in a science-fiction environment which takes the best from all your favorite sci-fi and action film culture and melds it into an epic tale combining RPG with Third Person Shooter. Character development is excellent, as you add to your crew and build up relationships for better or worse with your team mates. The player is eventually let loose to explore as much of the known galaxy as they desire which offers hours of exciting ventures, but for those who wish to stick to the main storyline it is one of the best crafted stories i have played through in a long time, with plenty of moments that make you shiver in excitement. The combat is pretty varied with a nice variety of classes and abilities for each you can use to slay enemies with. I would say the game is slightly tarnished by its clunky inventory system and occasional boring periods in the Mako tank (issues addressed in the sequel) but even today this game is still an essential play.

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 27
Apr 26, 2011
The latest Dragonball Z game has been subject to some harsh criticism, most of which I would say is a bit exaggerated. The game does suffer from a lack of modes seen in previous titles, notably the story progression from the series in the form of "sagas". The player has the choice of Battle Zone which feels a little like an Arcade mode, and Galaxy Mode which is a string of fights for each character. There isn't a lot of variety which is a shame. However that aside I would say this a very good package for any fan of Dragonball Z. The combat is fast, and the cut-scenes are framed in an exciting manner that make the player feel like they are in the cartoon. There are tonnes of characters to unlock and you can get great replayability with or without friends in creating dream match ups, or recreating fights from the series. For fans of Dragonball Z who are looking for some fun I would highly recommend this game, but it's probably going to be hit and miss for most other people.

Mortal Kombat (2011)8
Apr 26, 2011
Going back to the series roots, Mortal Kombat is a great return to a form for a series that hasn't looked so great the past few years. The gameplay is sick, with great opportunities for combo creating and an ensemble of iconic characters each with diverse movesets and playstyle. The single player experience is a huge step forward in the genre - with story mode alone being worth the admission price. Extremely well told and crafted, it feels like watching a movie at times and is highly enjoyable experience despite the corny plot. Challenge Tower, Fatality Trainer, Test your Luck are amongst other extended modes which makes this a dream for the offline player. The game has a couple of flaws, and notably the online experience seems a bit shortcoming particularly due to crashes and incredibly long matchmaking times. Yet all in all this is a great fighter with lots to do for any beat 'em up fan.

Darksiders8

This is the best Zelda game I have played in years, as it takes the gameplay that made titles such as Ocarina of Time so great and throws it into a new environment of a violent, war-torn apocalypse of present. The mechanics feel familiar but also refined, due to the more grim atmosphere and vocal characters. A great spin on one of gamings favourite franchises.

Dante's Inferno8
Apr 19, 2011
Lifts a lot of ideas from God of War but when they are employed this well, who cares? Extremely satisfying combat and adventuring down through the inferno, most of which is highly distinctive thanks in part to the amazing art on the environments. Coupled with some pretty epic boss encounters, this is a fun and furious experience although it does perhaps wane a little in the final few circles.

Naruto: The Broken Bond5

Looks pretty but ultimately the overusing of quicktime events, same environments and repetitive questing for the majority of the game make this more of a chore than a fun experience. Combat feels shallow and clunky, but the Jutsu controls are fun.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds7
Apr 19, 2011
Solid gameplay accompanied with a brilliant art style set the stage for an excellent game, only to be held back by shallow variety of modes and a limited selection of characters. Could have been a much more enjoyable game if it had that little extra depth.
