Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition9
Jun 11, 2020
The best version of the game. The only gripe I have is the Colony 6 reconstruction quest, but even that has a solution that the dev did not tell you. The battle system need some getting use to, though I still prefer XC2's system. I cannot wait for more games from Monolith Soft.

A great story but the game play need some polishing. The auto camera swings around too much and causing the character to run toward the direction that I don't want her to. The level caps at 50 making the late game battle feels kinda pointless except to grind for money. The story is great, but some loose ends have not been solved. The map screen does not show a mini map or something to let you know where you are actually going. The name only map screen sometimes can be confusing especially when many locations collapsed into 1 point on the town map.

Awesome soundtrack but frustrating gameplay. I'm not a fan of this rogue-like (or rogue-lite) gameplay.

I did not play the original because of the control limitation, so I really looking forward to this remake. It's a grand adventure in a not-so-grand island. One disappointment I have with this is that the game leave some button on the Switch unused. It would have been better if I can equip more than 2 items at a time. The dungeon builder is disappointing too, the lack there of manual connection of the stairs make it a pain to build a dungeon.

So much is stuffed into this amazing game, I feel like I bought some game soundtrack, and there is a game hidden inside it. Why can't I give a 11/10 rating to this awesome masterpiece.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country10

A short-and-sweet adventure that is similar to the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Characters level up faster than they are in the main story. It's such a great prequel.

Kotaro Uchikoshi hits again with his mind-fxcking superpower. I manage to see part of the twist by the end of a route, but still amazed by the twist when it hit. Great puzzle solving with some "dreamy" quirkiness, but I don't like the time constraint. The humor in the game is awesome, with some easter eggs point to other games/anime, and some real world people. Not sure about how it went down in the other languages, but my Chinese version has an easter egg about Kojima's name being a "small island" when Date is searching for humans in Sojima's mansion.

The platforming part of the game is so bad, that most of the time is spent trying to reach the platform. A failed jump takes so many button press to get back, and make the pacing of the game really slow.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition9

Amazing port from the PS version. The orchestrated soundtrack is awesome, and graphics is beautifully suited on the Switch's screen. The demo is even better than some of the full-price games, and it helped me quench the thirst of longing for the real game. One disappointing point is that the 2D version requires you to start from a certain point in a chapter, but the cutting off of a chapter is not obvious. The pacing is great that I feel like I haven't done anything, but the story has progressed so much. I didn't need to grind too much, usually it's grinding for the materials I need for forging, not for level. It is worthy for my wait for the NS version.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night8

I waited for the Switch version. Maybe it's because I did not play the other version before I start my Switch version, I don't feel the slower frame-rate like some other people. This is my first Metroidvania game, and it is making me into a fan of the genre. The game crashes a few times for me, but I didn't get any other bugs that was reported.

Super Mario Odyssey9

I'm a Nintendo fan, but I never enjoyed platformer - Mario games (including Mario World, 64, Galaxy, etc.). However, this is the first Mario game that I play through one time. I never thought I would enjoy platformers like this, to say nothing about a 3D platformer.

The most addicting Fire Emblem, period. This is the first FE on the series that I immediately started a second play through after I finished the first. The story is intriguing and immersive in the routes that I have played. The story is complete in their respective routes, yet the entire lore is incomplete unless you have played them all. I even stalled the next game I want to play because of this, even though I am equally hyped about it. Now that I have beaten Astral Chain, I am thinking about starting the third play through again... BTW, I hate Dimitri in my second play through because he likes to jump in and mess up my all-girl troop.

Just finished the game. I love everything about it. The only gripe I have is the camera control - especially the lack there of when controlling the legion. The control scheme need some getting use to, but after that, I like this more than using the face buttons for attack. I play less Bayonetta 1 and 2 because my thumb feels hurt when playing it for a longer sitting.
