Flawed but compelling exploration of a relationship lacks the depth of Noe's best but is a visual treat. The frank sex scenes garnered the film some controversy and perhaps detracted from the serious intention of taking an unflinching look at the intricacies of the physical and emotional connections made by people in a relationship. Predominantly filmed in a series of rooms and in close up suggestive of both the claustrophobic intensity of a new relationship and the feeling of breing trapped the film still manages to look gorgeous with its deep colours and inspired lighting. What does let it down at times is the script which veers into a flabby mid section that briefly lost my attention but overall i enjoyed this.
