No spoilers. I'll just go episode by episode with a quick summary on what I thought. Hopefully this'll save some of you some time. Ep 1. Decent. Felt like old Black Mirror to a certain extent. Heartfelt ending. I enjoyed it quite a bit. There's a little dig at Christainity and while I'm not religious myself I'm tired of writers only being brave when it comes to the most tolerant religion while being terrified of all others. These same people love to use the term "punching down". Funny that. Still though, it's a solid episode. Ep 2. Awful. Probably the worst ending to an episode I've ever seen with the tech creating more questions than it answers. If the dumbest person could think of the most advanced tech this is the sort of thing they'd write. Skip it. Ep 3. Good grief. Listing the things wrong with this episode would be exhausting. It's shocking that Brooker would put his name to it. Skip it. Ep 4. An old premise but executed well. They should have cut episode 3s runtime in half and added it to this episode as it ends very abruptly in my opinion. Worth a watch. Ep 5. I really liked this episode. It's dripping with melancholy. The writing and acting is easily the best of the season. Definitely worth watching. Ep 6. While I'm not fond of the idea of revisting past episodes this worked out OK. I would have preferred if they went a different way with the ending but I still enjoyed it none-the-less. So not a bad season overall. I would also like to congratulate the team on hitting those diversity quotas. They are obviously very good at casting people based on their skin color. TLDRSkip 2 and 3
They turned a once strong female character who was someone girls could aspire to be like into a sad pathetic bore. What an awful role model to put forward in the name of "progress".
It just isn't good. In any aspect. I'm so tired of giving the MCU "another go". That's me out for go. I would say it's been fun while it lasted but really it hasn't been fun for a long time.
Wow. This is terrible. I really wanted to like it but after 4 episodes it's time to give up hope. It's like one of those awful CW shows but with added gore. And I love a good bit of gore but when it's surrounded by a slow and boring plot, mediocre acting and dialogue that I'm positive chatGPT had a heavy hand in creating then all just becomes a waste of time.
It's remarkable that the people who wrote this went on strike to ask for more money. It's the sort of thing an edgy teenager writes and thinks it's breaking all the rules when really it's just try hard cringe inducing waffle.
We open with a black Judge telling us how he lives in a racist city within a racist system. I'd like to know how exactly he managed to become a Judge in this incredibly racist world of his. That's the level of writing you get in this dumpster fire that is not Justified at all.
The bar is so low that people actually think this is good. Horrible pacing and horrible writing permeate every aspect of this absolute slog of a show. Then scenes are recycled from older shows that a large part of the audience haven't seen and a character is used as a living, breathing member berry and everyone thinks its the best thing since sliced bread. Do better Disney.
Very enjoyable so far although I'm a little worried that they won't stick the landing when it comes around. Even if they don't I reckon the journey will be worth it even if the destination is a let down.
Not perfect but very entertaining. I can't understand why it's not rated higher. With the subject matter it's amazing that there wasn't gallons of woke poured all over the script. Let's hope they stay the course for season 2.
Interesting show that's very entertaining but felt stretched out just a little. Great performances from the cast and an interesting plot but I am a little worried that the eventual pay off might be a let down as that seems to be par for the course these days. Time will tell. Very much looking forward to season 2.
Great show. A few episodes in the middle were a little lackluster but still enjoyable. Looking forward to season 2. I will say that it's pretty obvious that a lot of characters were probably race swapped from the books so if you like authentic adaptations and you like the books I'm sure it would annoy you. Having not read the books personally it didn't bother me.
Excellent show that's awesome to binge and trust me it's hard to stop watching once you start. Great performances from everyone. Only fly in the ointment is Sepideh Moafi's character. No idea why she had to be written as so unlikeable in the early episodes but thankfully they eased up on her character as the show progressed.
This was pretty bad. Poorly written, which seems to be the Marvel method these days. And why did they have to keep bringing up that Fury is black? That was weird. For anyone wondering, it's nothing like the comic, which is par for course I guess. I've only seen one episode but I'd sooner squat on a lit bonson burner than watch another.
Within ten minutes you'll be rolling your eyes and wondering why you bother. What has happened to writers these days? The opening sequence is just dripping with every cliché that you've seen writers fall into for the last 5 years and to say it's boringly tiresome would be an understatement. After reading reviews I'm glad I didn't waste my time anymore than I already did.
Everyone involved in the making of this garbage should feel deeply ashamed. Black people have a rich history to draw from without the need to appropriate other cultures and even ignoring the blackwashing it's still a dreadfully written show.
This was a lot better than I thought it would be. You can never trust any hype these days but this actually deserves it. I'm not a fan of the massive shift in tones in the last few episodes however I would say they just about pulled it off. I see people wanting a season 2. I don't agree unless it's an anthology. Most if not all stories benefit greatly by ending at the right time and they shouldn't try to milk this one.
Took a chance on this as JK Simmons was in it and I'm glad I did. It's very solid however if you aren't a fan of mystery box type story telling then you probably won't like it. Looking forward to season 2 (if it happens)
Lots of wasted potential here. Long story short, they managed to make an interesting premise very boring by largely ignoring the most interesting thing the show had going for it and replacing it with... well, nothing.
The critics don't like it because Rock is making fun of THEM. Sick of all the nonsense that's rammed down your throat 24/7? Rock lambasts it while making you laugh your rear off. Excellent special proving the man has still got it.
I was sure that this wouldn't be as bad as people were making out. I was wrong. This is dreadful and what's worse is it wasted my time on Christmas Day. To say that the writers care more about their personal agenda than writing a good story would be a massive understatement. I would recommend doing anything other than watching this sorry excuse for a TV show.
Ever wondered how entertaining it would be to watch a millionaire princess complain about how hard her life is? Ever wondered why someone who complains about a lack of privacy would then make a show talking about her private life? Ever wondered how easy it would be to get a prince to turn on his alive and dead family members? Ever wondered how many lies you could fit into a scripted documentary? Well, keep wondering. The answer to these questions isn't worth your time to find out.
I tried to temper my expectations because I love Dark but this show misses the mark ever so slightly. It's something that's hard to put your finger on but I reckon it's just that everything is slightly off. The mystery box story telling gets annoying very quickly. With Dark mysteries abound however there's always something engaging going on but not so in 1899. Also, and this is my biggest issue, no one is particularly likable. Writers are forgetting this aspect of story telling. If no one is likable then no one cares what happens to them. The female lead in particular gives the audience no reason whatsoever to sympathize with her. I'm hopeful for the second season however recommending a show based on an unaired season would be pretty silly wouldn't it. I know it's Marvel's bread and butter (you just HAVE to see the end credits scene) but it's a dumb practice that I won't partake in.
Badly written garbage with stereotypical characters that we've seen over and over again. Horrible costumes that look like they're hired out from the local community centre drama club. If you want to be entertained watch the original then pretend this huge waste of time and money doesn't exist. I gave it 1 purely because the cameramen were able to keep actors in frame. They seem to be the only people taking pride in their work in this production.
How did I sleep on this show? It's really good and doesn't require you to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it. Check it out. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Can't wait for season 2.
Where to even begin. The writing is pseudo intellectual nonsense that either doesn't make sense or contradicts itself. The only way the writers could make the protagonist smart is by making everyone else an idiot. Furthermore, the books this show is based on are basically ignored to craft a narrative with modern day sensibilities. The books have been translated to over 60 languages. It already appeals to a modern audience. The changes that are made actually makes it's mass appeal less than what it was. Good job Amazon. I will say that some of the cinematography is good with some nice visuals here and there but if that's what you're after visit an art gallery. If you want a good TV show look elsewhere.
This was a terrible misandrist show that will only be enjoyed by white women who want to feel victimized by society. Cringe dialogue abounds in every single scene throwing in every little tidbit that women overblow online as reasons why their life is insufferable. If this is you, congrats, you just discovered the best show you'll ever watch. For the rest of society, skip it, unless you want to see a Mary Sue who complains constantly about how hard it is too be a wahmen.
Sets a new record for race swapping characters from the source material. If you're a villain you get to stay white though, obviously. Loses a lot in translation from book to screen.
Dreadful. Absolutely terrible. I don't know how this stuff gets made. Is the talent pool really this shallow that Netflix, a company that's losing subs by the millions, puts this out and thinks "yeah, that's the best we could have done"? This isn't Resident Evil. It's obviously a script that was butchered to try to make it fit Resident Evil. It failed.
This was a really great show. I binged it over the weekend and can't recommend it enough. Action, drama, suspense, intrigue, mystery. This show really does have it all. No idea why the critics would rate it so poorly. Maybe they didn't get their goody bags on time.
How Marvel can produce content like this after such a stellar run is unfathomable. This is content that is more deserving of The CW. Low effort content for a low effort audience I guess.
There just wasn't enough Geralt for my liking. He is the character everyone likes. He is who we are here for. The books are told from his perspective. You control him for 99% of the games he's in. He's cool. Every time he is on screen, the show is engaging. Every time he is off screen, you are just waiting for the narrative to steer back to him. The fact that the makers of this show chopped his screen time down so much just shows are inept they are at making a worthwhile adaptation of the books. Let me be clear, I never expect source material to be followed to the letter, but when you don't even realise what makes the source material so beloved you have failed at your job on an epic scale.
Excellent story telling that develops characters exceptionally well. This show was 6 years in the making so it was first conceived in a time when entertainment had not yet went down the current path its now on. Let's hope season 2 doesn't head that way also.
The Boys wants you to believe it's a satire of modern culture. The problem is that it happily partakes in the same thing it claims to satirize. Couple this with scenes of little value other than shock with lazy and predictable writing and you get The Boys. The very definition of mediocre. Why people are falling over themselves to praise this show is baffling, assuming that the praise is genuine.
Disney needed to create controversy to get people to go out and positively review bomb this dumpster fire of a show. It breaks continuity while also being criminally boring and showcases how writers are buckling under the weight of writing edicts that every show suffers from if it's a Disney production.
