The Grand Budapest Hotel8
Jul 24, 2014
Slightly too much Wes Anderson makes me rate this film just under Moonrise but it is still an extremely enjoyable film. Ralph Fiennes steals the show with a breathtaking performance, brimming with fun and comedic value, something I honestly didn't think that Fiennes had despite seeing him in In Bruges. Would definitely recommend to pretty much anybody (except for Michael Bay fans).

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes10
Jul 24, 2014
Absolutely phenomenal, the first thing to be noted about this film is just how good the visual effects are. To be honest after the initial wow factor you completely forget that the apes aren't really actors. They look fantastic in the different weather scenarios. Only when you see an animated bear and an animated monkey do you feel like you are watching some moving pixels. The story itself is extremely gripping, an emotional roller-coaster which could be deemed a little predictable but at the same time has enough about it in terms of imagery and great directing to get away with any obvious twists or turns. A wonderful movie which might be hard to top in the next instalment.

Couples Retreat4
Jan 6, 2013
The film has a good premise but is let down by a poor script. The jokes aren't particularly funny but the talented cast do their best. Definitely watchable but it wouldn't come highly recommended.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen5
Aug 25, 2012
Not a terrible film but the female alien robot as well as the 'twins' from the Autobots were incredibly unrealistic (even for a Transformers film) and annoying. A lot of the film is saved by decent action and military sequences but even that isn't enough to give this film a positive score.

12 Rounds3
Aug 25, 2012
I did actually think the film tried very hard and you can see the fruits of their efforts. Unfortunately I don't think that John Cena is that good an actor and the script wasn't very good either.
Aug 25, 2012
Paul Blart: Mall Cop1
Aug 25, 2012
An awful film, Paul Blart: Mall Cop is just another reason why Kevin James should never have a starring role in any film. He needs a much better actor to carry him through nearly ever film he has ever been in.

Knowing4
Aug 25, 2012
I can't actually put my finger on the reason why this film wasn't that good but it wasn't. The plot as a whole is fairly intelligent but I think it must be the acting and could even be something as minor as the soundtrack. Anyway sorry for the lack of information in this review, I am genuinely confused by this film.

The Last House on the Left5
Aug 25, 2012
This film surprised me in the fact that I wasn't bored by it. Still it wasn't the best thriller/horror remake I have ever seen but it is no where near the bottom either. The tension built through the film really well.
Aug 25, 2012
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian4
Aug 25, 2012
It was funny in places but this sequel could not live up to its predecessor and like so many films before it will struggle on that basis alone. It is meant to be a family/children's film so I can't be too harsh on it. I am sure children will find it funny.
Aug 25, 2012
The Twilight Saga: New Moon0
Aug 25, 2012
I am not the kind of person to dismiss a film purely based on the franchise (see my other Twilight reviews some of which are positive/mixed) from which it comes from no matter how annoying the fans may be. New Moon is simply put one of the worst films I have ever seen. It was slow, with no tension and no emotion portrayed in an awful performance by Kristen Stewart. How anyone could think this to be a good film is beyond me.

Whatever Works7
Aug 25, 2012
I am not sure why this website continually knocks intelligent films but this was actually highly funny. Larry David is always on top form and Woody Allen produced yet another hilarious and witty film. Evan Rachel Woods was completely different to normal too, I didn't even recognise her!
Aug 25, 2012
The Time Traveler's Wife6
Aug 25, 2012
I do not normally like soppy films but this one had an interesting premise to it and actually posed some extremely fascinating morale dilemmas. I enjoyed Eric Bana's performance while Rachel McAdams gave a decent account of herself.
Aug 25, 2012
Jennifer's Body4
Aug 25, 2012
Adam Brody had a pretty good role in this film but everyone else was poor. The film is entertaining in some places and hard to watch in others. The standard of acting is not very good but it wasn't the worst thing I have seen. I would rather have watched it than not have done so at all.
Aug 25, 2012
He's Just Not That Into You3
Aug 25, 2012
Has this film not been made a million times except in this case there really is no reason at all for making it. It is not Christmas or some other joyous occasion. It wasn't awful but it wasn't good either. If you like watching boring films then this may be the one for you.
Aug 25, 2012
The Proposal5
Aug 25, 2012
A normal romantic-comedy, The Proposal has a few laughs but tends to struggle for the most part, relying on the talents of Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds to carry this film through. It is fine as a date movie but nothing more.
Aug 25, 2012
17 Again7
Aug 25, 2012
I had no expectations when I saw this film but this is a phenomenal film. Maybe I am just at the right age for it (I was 17 when I saw this) but it is hilarious. Zac Efron is surprisingly likable, possibly aided by the fact he is meant to be a lot older. Matthew Perry is funny when he partakes in different scenes but Thomas Lennon steals the show with fantastic expressions and just simple comedic timing.
Aug 25, 2012
20125
Aug 25, 2012
An alright film which won't really gain favourable reviews in comparison to The Day After Tomorrow. Still as a stand alone film, it is one which was watchable but didn't really break any barriers. Some of the ideas are quite good whilst other parts are just juvenile.
Aug 25, 2012
Taken8
Aug 25, 2012
I'm not really sure what the critics are on about here because this was a fantastic film and clearly the majority of people on this site agree with me. Fast-paced, dark and mysterious, Liam Neeson does a wonderful job in winning our hearts as he travels the world (Europe) to save his daughter.
Aug 25, 2012
Terminator Salvation6
Aug 25, 2012
This wasn't a poor film it just didn't live up to the standards set in the first two. Still I thought it was a solid film with a fairly clever idea. I enjoyed it and would happily see a fifth one if it is ever made.
Aug 25, 2012
The Blind Side7
Aug 25, 2012
This was a wonderful film which really showed the problems face in modern day America. Even a good intentioned act can be made to look like a dishonourable one. I'm not sure how great Bullock's performance was but I do think that it was the best of a poor year's showing from actresses across Hollywood. Sports movies do not normally go this deep, but The Blind Side shines through all the hardships faced by Michael Oher on his road to becoming an NFL player.
Aug 25, 2012
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 36
Aug 25, 2012
Tony Scott produces another decent film despite all the cliches and the ridiculous look that John Travolta was wearing. A solid popcorn cruncher which will please most action fans without rocking the boat very much.
Aug 25, 2012
Sherlock Holmes6
Aug 25, 2012
The film was fine but I genuinely think that it would have been better off without Rachel McAdams. Nothing against the lady but her character just seemed to be put in there to incorporate a female lead. The story itself is rather good and I thought that Jude Law in particular was great.
Aug 25, 2012
The Invention of Lying5
Aug 25, 2012
The idea for the film is absolutely outstanding. It's just a shame that the film itself isn't as funny as it could be. Ricky Gervais is funny in places but there simply aren't enough jokes. It starts wane a lot towards the end. Still I would recommend it to others simply for the premise alone.
Aug 25, 2012
Funny People7
Aug 25, 2012
I thought this film would be a comedy but in actually fact I think this film should be classed as a drama. Sure it is funny in places but it is a lot more serious than most other Judd Apatow productions. Despite this, I actually enjoyed the film. Eric Bana is a fantastic actor and Seth Rogan along with Adam Sandler for once bring a sense of realism to their roles. I think Rogan would suit more roles like this in the future as well his more obvious drug-addled roles.

Extract7
Aug 25, 2012
I really enjoyed this film, it was rather similar to Office Space in terms of style and a little of the story. I thought that Ben Affleck was very good in his supporting role whilst Bateman did his best with the lead. It is definitely worth a watch.
Aug 25, 2012
Sunshine Cleaning6
Aug 25, 2012
I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy this film but it is actually a very good film. It is warm-hearted and funny despite the obvious morbid surroundings and the main protagonist is easy to warm to due to her hard-working nature.
Aug 25, 2012
Inglourious Basterds7
Aug 25, 2012
Cristoph Waltz is beyond outstanding in this film, one of the best performances that I have ever seen in a war film even though it is a very light-hearted war film. Inglorious Basterds really shines through as a film which lives up to stereotypes yet still works almost because of them rather than in spite of them. I wasn't sure about certain parts of the film and whether they really fit into the rest of the picture but I almost always enjoyed scenes with Waltz or Pitt.
Aug 25, 2012
I Love You, Man7
Aug 25, 2012
I enjoy Jason Segal's work all the time and this film is no exception. He works very well with Paul Rudd to produce a great comedy about friendship more than romance. Rashida Jones is ok but I really felt as if she was overshadowed by pretty much every other character. Andy Samberg is hilarious even though normally I find him to be stupid. Unfortunately for this film, it will forever be overshadowed by The Hangover.
Aug 25, 2012
The Hangover10
Aug 25, 2012
I love Todd Phillips and in my opinion this is his crowning glory. The film is funny though out and although it seems slightly dumbed down, I think it works especially with the characters. Zach Galifianakis steals the show whilst the cameo from Ken Jeong comes in as a close second. One of the best comedies in a long time, even the credits are funny!
Aug 25, 2012
Zombieland10
Aug 25, 2012
A phenomenal film which belongs in the same league as Shaun of the Dead when comparing horror/comedies. Woody Harrelson was fantastic as was Jessie Eissenberg. They complement each other very well and obviously are juxtaposed to Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. I thought that the pacing as well as the emotional arc suffered by a few of the characters really suited the film. This will surely become an all-time classic.
Aug 25, 2012
Adventureland8
Aug 25, 2012
When I saw that Kristen Stewart was in this film my heart sank, but her normal moody attitude which I find annoying to the extreme complements this film very well. A drama and a comedy but aimed towards someone slightly younger than the norm for this genre, Adverntureland gets everything right. It illustrates the hardships suffered by Eisenberg's character but also his optimism and determination. This is in some ways a feel-good film but in others a feel-bad film. Either way, it is still a great film and deserves all the accolades it receives.

District 99
Aug 25, 2012
Wow. This film is on another planet to most sci-fi films. A true classic that will surely develop a cult following in years to come. The emotional arc within the plot is truly outstanding and I really did not see the ending coming. Sharlto Copley was fantastic and though I found his accent hard to understand at times I did not mind as it is obviously a different accent to that of which we are mostly used to (unless you have some connection to South Africa). The underlying message was crystal clear for everyone to see and unless you are oblivious to all that went on in South Africa/Rhodesia you would be hard-pushed to find a more emotional sci-fi thriller. I had never heard of Neill Blomkamp before this but this would have been my choice for Best Picture, Best Director and maybe even Best Actor.
Aug 25, 2012
Up in the Air7
Aug 25, 2012
I think the critics went slightly overboard when reviewing this film. It is a good film which is funny in places but at times it seems far too stuck up itself to realise when it is waning from the plot. Reitman continues to produce good films but this is not his best work as some would have you believe.
Aug 25, 2012
Drag Me to Hell7
Aug 25, 2012
This is a hilarious film which is also scary in the right places. Sam Raimi knows what he is doing in the horror genre and I am glad that the film doesn't take itself too seriously. It has a clever plot with a slightly predictable twist but all in all everything works in Drag Me to Hell.
Aug 25, 2012
Star Trek9
Aug 25, 2012
J.J Abrams out did himself here. I was never a fan of Star Trek and to be honest I do not think I will ever enjoy the older movies and programmes but as a stand alone film, this has to be considered the best blockbuster of the summer. It has everything you could possibly want in a film and the pacing is fantastic especially when considering how long this film actually **** chemistry between all the characters is also great and I do love how they seem to have actually taken their time over the storyline in order to get it 100% correct. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this film.
Aug 25, 2012
Avatar5
Aug 25, 2012
The idea for the story and technology used to produce this film are both fantastic. However, it just becomes too boring and too predictable extremely quickly. The characters are so generic and the fact that it gets so much praise is indicative of the way movie critics are now-a-days. It wasn't a poor film but it isn't one of the best films ever. It was simply a good film as most of them are.
Aug 25, 2012
The Hurt Locker8
Aug 25, 2012
Finally a war film about the middle east that doesn't try to be too intelligent yet is seemingly aimed at intelligent people. A wonderful film which was hands down better than Avatar though I did think that other films were overlooked for Best Picture. Jeremy Renner evolved in this film from supporting actor in an action film to a fantastic lead in a serious film. This was a huge turning point within his career.
Aug 25, 2012
Your Highness2
Aug 25, 2012
Danny McBride was very poor in a film which definitely required an amazing performance from the lead. Natalie Portman and James Franco must have realised their mistake in taking on a film with McBride when they were at the premiere. It is a bit weird how they were duped into making a comedy which seems to aimed at people without a single brain cell. Still, even I admit that it was funny in parts.
Aug 25, 2012
Just Go with It5
Aug 25, 2012
There really are not enough funny moments in this film to warrant a high score but it isn't as bad as the critics are trying to suggest. Not one of Sandler's best but he still manages to pull it off rather well. I wasn't sold on Brooklyn Decker's acting credentials and found Nick Swardson as well as the two children rather annoying.
Aug 25, 2012
I Am Number Four5
Aug 25, 2012
This could have been the start to a solid franchise but unfortunately neither critics nor fans bought into the premise on a large scale. I think the film is alright, it could have been better and the villains are pretty bad but everything else in the film was rather good. I can see how that would cause problems in terms of sequels as I genuinely think that the villains would have tested badly with audiences across the globe. It was a good attempt at a tough sci-fi film.
Aug 25, 2012
Battle: Los Angeles5
Aug 25, 2012
I am not really sure why the critics were so harsh towards this film. It is fine, it is nothing special but it has a wonderful tension that builds throughout the film. I also thought that the acting was brilliant especially the chemistry between Aaron Eckhart and Ramon Rodriguez. A solid film that is worth a view.
Aug 25, 2012
The Green Hornet4
Aug 25, 2012
I normally love Seth Rogan and his films but this film is silly to the extreme and not very intelligent either. Still, there is enough talent in the cast and crew to prevent this film from being a total blow out. I enjoyed Cameron Diaz's role (though I may be slightly bias having seen The Mask).
Aug 25, 2012
The Change-Up6
Aug 25, 2012
I was pleasantly surprised by how crude this film was. Normally I am not a fan of crude humour but for some reason I think it worked in this film. In hind sight, they obviously needed to do something as this film seems to have been done a million times but the film works fine. Reynolds, Mann, Bateman and Wilde work brilliantly together. However the script wasn't too good in the first place so this film is by no means a classic.
Aug 25, 2012
Green Lantern1
Aug 25, 2012
I had never heard of the Green Lantern before The Big Bang Theory but now I know why. This film is awful and the whole idea of the character and the universe from which it derives is awful. I know the filmmakers clearly didn't come up with the character's powers but how did this comic ever become successful? The film itself was below par, Ryan Reynolds did his best but no one else can really say they did anything positive in this film (or at least anything of note). Do not watch this film.
Aug 25, 2012
Transformers: Dark of the Moon3
Aug 25, 2012
Definitely the worst of all the Transformers films, there is no attempt at actually making a good film here. All they are after is the consumers' money. Should have and could have been better, the story is beyond ridiculous even for a Transformers or a Michael Bay film. I actually enjoyed the dynamic between Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Shia La Beouf despite the fact that the former really cannot act. The first film was the only good film of this series.
Aug 25, 2012
The Hangover Part II3
Aug 25, 2012
Wasn't anywhere near the high standards set in the first film, The Hangover Part II is a big disappointment and strikes the question, why did Todd Phillips makes this film? I think he has been corrupted by success as he used to always make solid films but this makes two poor films in his last two attempts. Not a great record from someone so talented. I didn't even watch this in the cinema because, quite frankly, even the advert looked bad.
Aug 25, 2012
Hall Pass4
Aug 25, 2012
Not a bad film but not a great film either. Maybe if I was older and married I would find this film more funny. Owen Wilson should be able to do better, even if it is as a minture person in a Ben Stiller film!
Aug 25, 2012
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 10
Aug 25, 2012
I've heard people say that certain cinema-goers should lighten up and enjoy this film for what it was intended to be which was a little fun. However I can confirm that nothing actually happens in this film. There is very little storyline and to be honest I thought it was going to turn into some softcore porn the way the film was going! I could have condensed this film to about 25 minutes.
Aug 25, 2012
The Dilemma4
Aug 25, 2012
Sometimes it feels as if members of the Frat Pack just spew out films when they want money rather than for artistic measure (not that I blame them). It isn't very good and I really do not think that Kevin James can be a truly successful film actor. I enjoyed the role played by Channing Tatum as well as the chemistry between Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Connolly.
Aug 25, 2012
Bad Teacher5
Aug 25, 2012
The film is alright but it relies to heavily on Cameron Diaz's ability to get away with extremely crude references. I thought that Jason Segal was brilliant but him aside, the film was a little of a bore at times. I also enjoyed the cameo from Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet, who plays a slightly contrasting mod biker.
