Simply one of the most gorgeous games around. What a great way to close out the console generation. Plus I love open world games and the story is really well done, far more interesting than the typical, "should heroes kill" that we get in far too many stories of this type. Bravo to **** Punch for a job well done!

Really disappointed by this one. While there is absolutely superb production quality in the acting, graphics, etc; and the combat is fortunately not changed much from the enjoyable combat in the first game, the story is just absolutely terrible. I think of this game like a coat that is super stylish and super comfortable, but smells like rotten eggs. Doesn't matter how stylish or comfortable the coat is, you wouldn't wear it. Same with this game, great production quality doesn't wash off the stink of a story that is relentlessly dreary, negative, cynical, that disrespects the characters you love from the first game, and has gigantic plot holes to boot. It's really a shame that Naughty Dog messed up the franchise like this, I'm shocked no one at Sony saw this coming and put the kibosh on it. For a company that has had so many good exclusives to mess up one this big is shocking. Get back in touch with gamers guys, actual real gamers.

Anthem

The critics are crazy and you should feel free to ignore them. This is a great game that if you like looter shooters, Borderlands, Destiny, Warframe, or Division, you will also enjoy Anthem. Even Monster Hunter World is comparable though obviously more set apart due to its structure. Let's go through the critical issues one by one. Bugs - Many of the bugs critics complained about are already squashed and the rest obviously will be squashed. There's no way Bioware is going to let them be. Comparisons to Fallout 76 are a downright lie and whoever spreads those lies should be ashamed of themselves. I've experienced some minor bugs and so the game does lose some score for that. Story - Look, it's not Mass Effect but mainly because it's linear, not because it is any less quality. I am very much enjoying getting to know the colorful cast around Fort Tarsis and there is at least one twist I didn't see coming. Now sure, not everyone has to love the story, everyone is allowed to have their opinion. However, the story of Anthem leaves Warframe, Destiny, and Division in the dust and that's indisputable. Anyone saying otherwise is lying to you. Graphics - Everyone agrees these are great. Sound - Everyone agrees this is great. Gameplay - Everyone agrees this is great. It's super fun. The combo system is a joy and unlike Destiny you can make some actually diverse builds with the gear in the game. None of the 4 Javelins plays the same. I stomp around the battlefield like Hulkbuster Iron Man in my Colossus and am constantly cycling between all my abilities. From sprinting through mobs with my shield, to air slams, to mortars, to flamethrowers, throw in some auto cannon and grenade launcher, and just keep on going. Anthem is an Iron Man simulator and it is a glorious one. Endgame grind - Is pretty typical for this genre. Now, grinding isn't for everyone! That's cool. However, the grind is absolutely comparable to anything in Destiny, Warframe, Division, etc. If you don't like the grind in this game, you just don't like looter shooters. EA hating - I mean, I'm totally with you that EA is a bad company but I'm not going to drag down a good game just to hate on EA. Microtransactions - Are only for cosmetics, and all DLC is free. Yes, it **** to have micro transactions in paid games but we crossed that bridge a while ago and it's a thing now. I won't drag down a good game to hate on micro transactions. Day one patches - Yes, it **** that games release and need day one patches. Again, why should we drag Anthem through the mud to complain about that practice? It is also a lot more forgivable with a game like Anthem as it is a live service that will evolve over time. You don't like these new live service games? Bully for you, don't play them, Cyberpunk is being worked on as we speak, doesn't mean Anthem deserves to be dragged down. Personally, I enjoy the journey we take with these live service games, still have fond memories of the Year 1 Triumphs from Destiny. Overall, the core fundamentals of this game are solid and a blast. There are some minor rough edges that need polishing, some UI fixes, some bug squashing. You skip this game because of the critics, you're missing out.

Gundam Versus

This is a game for fighting game fans, not Gundam fans. Of all the Gundam games to come West, this is one of the worst. End of the day, it's just not fun unless you are already good at fighting games. This game does a terrible job pitting rookies against other rookies and this is not a forgiving game if you are a rookie. You will get outmaneuvered and absolutely destroyed with no idea what is happening. The controls stink. These controls are NOT designed for a PS4 controller, at all. Several Mobile Suits have charge attacks but you can't charge a move on Square and dash by double tapping X, the human hand just doesn't do that. So you're at a disadvantage if you don't have a fight stick right from the get go. Also, a rookie will button mash but this game does not forgive that and will screw up your moves, say transforming a dash attack into just a regular dash. You're somehow supposed to execute all your moves flawlessly while everything moves just shy of the speed of light. Congrats to those who have those kind of reflexes but for the rest of us, we're just left being cannon fodder. There are single player options that are actually fun but they're repetitive and get dull quickly. This game needs more robust single player like Injustice 2 has. There's also tons of lag and I know it's not my connection because I've played Destiny and Paragon with zero hiccups. So, if you like a lag fest where actually good players will mercilessly cream you. Buy this game. If you like to have fun, don't. I hate to say this because I really love Gundam and was excited to see a Gundam game come West for PS4, more of them should. This was just a terrible game to bring West though, unless you're very talented, you're in a for a bad time. On the plus side the game is pretty, the mobile suits are cool and do feel iconic with some of their signature moves, and that's about all the good things I can say about it. The mobile suit selection is decent but there's a lot of notable absences including SEED Destiny (the show stinks but some of the MS are awesome) and 00 season 2. Mobile Armor bosses are also insanely annoying to fight with spammy nigh undodgeable beam cannon attacks and melee attacks that they can turn around and execute on a dime, meaning most melee MS just cannot fight a boss effectively in the slightest. Really really disappointed Gundam fan here. Just, zero fun playing this game except against the AI and again, single player mode is just lackluster.

Titanfall: Assault

Decent Clash Royale clone. A decently fun game but I doubt it will ever be as successful as Clash Royale. The set up is similar in that you have cards which are units with varying costs and strengths and you send them out onto a field to battle each other. Rather than two lanes there is a zigzag path and you can win either by taking out both enemy turrets or collecting points from three hardpoints along the path. Pros: The first time I saw the pilots, rather than run the zigzag path instead leap over a building, was really cool and really in the spirit of Titanfall. Calling down Titans is fun and cool and just like in the regular game you can kill things by dropping on them. Being able to win by score rather than just turrets is a good addition. Different maps actually have slightly different mechanics to them rather than just looking different from each other. Cons: Pay2win nonsense. Doesn't matter how good you are, if you're facing some guy with a legendary sentry tech and a bunch of maxed out cards, you're screwed. This is par for the course for this kind of game but doesn't make it any less annoying. While it improves on the mechanics of Clash Royale, it misses a lot of the heart and soul. My various pilots are just various pilots. It can be hard to even tell them apart. In Clash I know the difference on sight between the Prince vs Hog Rider vs Wizard vs Valkyrie, etc. I can't speak for everyone but I have intermittent network issues. Login rewards not wanting to open (I haven't lost any rewards this way) or trouble finding matches. No way to surrender a clearly lost match. Clash may be the same way, I can't recall off-hand. Regardless, highly annoying. Overall, it's a good game. Not great, not bad, just good. I can't speak for how long I'll keep playing it although at least for now it's got my interest. Still, nowhere near the masterpiece that Titanfall 2 is.

Overwatch is a fun game but it's a little overhyped. For starters, the lack of a story mode and the inclusion of microtransactions in a paid title, are something that seem to have been completely overlooked by the games journalists. Now, none of these are dealbreakers in my book. Other games have launched with no story and sadly microtransactions are a part of our lives now. The microtransactions in Overwatch are purely for cosmetic items and do not give you any benefits in game (other than looking/sounding cool), so it's a fair system. You can also earn everything for free, if you have the patience of a Zen Buddhist Monk, otherwise you're going to pony up some cash. It's a system designed for gambling, addiction, and frustration. Anyway, gameplay wise it's a lot of fun. The characters are all very unique and interesting. They all play differently and give you a variety of ways to contribute to your team. If you're not the world's greatest aim, that's all right, you can play a support and focus more on helping your teammates versus trying to kill everyone yourself. The game is very "casual" friendly in that it doesn't focus on kill/death ratio, it has fun things like play of the game and allows people to vote/commend other players who did well. It's a bit short on maps and modes, there's only three modes and the assault/defense and team deathmatch just don't feel all that different from each other. Overall, I don't think it's worth $60, more like $30 or better yet since it has microtransactions should have been F2P. Personally for me it gets old, pvp is something I enjoy but only in doses and eventually it gets frustrating and of course you're inevitably going to run into something that is annoying. Whether that be people running a troll team (all McCrees) or just someone who is loads better than you and dominating you. In those times I like to have a story mode to retreat to and OW lacks that. If you are big into pvp and/or just really loved Team Fortress 2, go for it. Personally, there are other "hero shooters" I prefer to Overwatch.

The game is a lot of fun. There's a lot of tactics to be had and I love how it combines board/card/video game into one. Adjusting strategies to deal with the various perils that are thrown out or figuring out who to target is great. Aesthetically it's cutesy but don't let that fool you, it's a serious and pretty tough game. That said, the RNG is a bit too strong with this one. Cards you want just never seem to be there when you need them (where are all my +2 health cards, where?) and if you get bad cards in your hand you cannot discard them. You can burn them in combat and that can help but even then if it's something like a rot card, it will probably just be a total waste (you'll understand when you play the game). Oftentimes, the winner seems determined by about turn 7 or so and the last turn too often feels like a formality. Mainly because the whole game is on a timer waiting for the king to die. Now, that is not a totally bad thing as it keeps games from spiraling out of control in the length department (say average game is about 30 minutes) and adds urgency to the whole experience. However, given that quests often spawn on opposite edges of the map and that someone can gain a ridiculous prestige lead, it's a mixed bag which is why I'm giving this a mixed review. Ultimately, I wish I could propose fixes for the issues I have with the game, it's tough and I can't. Beyond saying I strongly feel there should be a way a limited way to discard cards, you get the good and the bad with this one but it is mostly good. If you're a fan of any kind of tactical video game and/or board game, Fire Emblem, Risk, Axis and Alllies, etc then I'd say you should really check this out. You'll have fun more often than not but there will be moments of serious frustration.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode Two

Call me odd as there is a group of people who love to rag on Infinite, a lot of them really love this DLC. Personally, I'm not as enthused. First, it is a stealth game. You can't brute force your way through things. This is fine and all. Personally, it made exploration a little tedious for me. However, big tip - explore early on. There are two upgrades to your Peeping Tom power which make stealth and exploration a lot less irritating. Once I had those the game became considerably more fun without becoming too easy. Plot-wise it is certainly interesting and the ties between Columbia and Rapture are quite tantalizing. That said, i wasn't too excited. Burial at Sea 2 explains some things that I didn't really feel need a lot of explaining, completely retcon one of the pivotal moments in Infinite (in what I can only interpret as a bit of politically correct pandering) and as such really robs Infinite of a lot of what I liked about it. I liked that Infinite really didn't take sides and instead presented the darkness in everyone. It was a good way to address some sensitive issues without stepping on toes. I liked that Infinite tied into Rapture a little bit. Now the two are practically joined at the hip, it is all a bit much in my opinion. I'm giving it a 7 because it was fun and interesting so I feel it deserves a high score. The only area it really loses points from me is plot. I didn't like the directions the plot went and feel it was all a bit of a letdown. Overall worth playing if you're a Bioshock fan but you're either going to love or hate the plot.

Has some promise but ultimately not a very fun game. There are simply other F2P titles where teamwork is easier to coordinate (such as League of Legends) or combat is more fun, skill-based, and less biased towards high level players (such as Hawken). The game's economy is not great, every piece of equipment you buy gets used up every time you die so you have to constantly restock everything but the base armors, weapons, etc. Skills take forever to unlock. A player who is higher level then you will cream you with advanced weapons, armor, vehicles, ORBITAL STRIKES! This leads to matches being completely unbalanced. Ultimately, the shooting mechanics work but that is about it. The game simply is not fun in its current iteration. With an improved economy and some balanced matches, it would be on the road to fun. This is one to avoid unless you enjoy painful grinding, in which case, have at it.

Sorry but put me in the crowd that doesn't like this game. there is some serious promise here but ultimately it simply doesn't work. You might like it, I can see some aspects of it that are good. Unfortunately, the package doesn't work in my opinion. In short, it is a grindy game that is too expensive and needs major overhauls. For a longer explanation, you can see below. 1 The game does not have enough content. It only has two game modes and they're both basically identical. While they have a lot of mechs, this is a double-edged sword as each mech has multiple variants and to unlock all the goodies, you need to buy multiple variants. This involves A LOT of grinding or if you think you can pay, it's going to cost you more then a full-price game most likely. Mind, this is just to purchase all the variants for ONE single mech and there are over 20. 2 That just leads right into my second gripe, prices are through the roof. We're talking $20-$30 for a single variant of a single mech. In a day and age when I can buy triple A games from Steam for $10, these prices are simply absurd. 3 Lackluster tutorial. Not an issue for an old mechhead like me but a big issue for new players. 4 The GRIND, it hurts so much. 5 No respawns. I don't get this one at all but if you bring it up on the forums, prepare to be flamed by the "true mechwarrior fans". I mean, if they want to have a game mode with no respawns, that's awesome. But in this day and age, to not offer it at all? Just doesn't make much sense and it contributes directly to issue 6. 6 Completely unbalanced play. One, the no respawns rule means that the first team to destroy 2 or 3 enemy mechs is probably going to win. So, matches become one-sided affairs and are not as fun as say Hawken or League of Legends where a team can pull a come-from-behind victory. Two, the no respawn rule means that even though your "objective" is to "capture" territory, most matches just become team deathmatch as it is far easier and more fun to kill everyone then stand on a spot to "capture" it. Three, premade teams absolutely destroy casual/lone wolf/PUG players ALL THE TIME. 7 the GRIND, it hurts so much. Sorry, I'm repeating myself aren't I? Well, it bears repeating. This game seriously needs respawns, bot matches, reasonable prices, and game modes that are actually different. Then, it might be a fun game. Right now, the biggest pluses it has are that it is very pretty and that the mech designs are absolutely phenomenal.
