This game is Tim Burton's Batman. This game is Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. This game is Tim Schafer's magnum opus. The king of adventure games. There is a remastered version out now - in case you've missed this gem.

Dayum this game is good. Best side scroller since Yogi Bear's Gold Rush on the OG Game Boy. This game is hard, I died hundreds of times. I love red balloons.

Highly recommend this gorgeous super duper fun game. I want to have children some day, just so we can play this wonderful game together! Nintendo magic.

The visuals are gorgeous, the game is one of the most aesthetically pleasing titles on the PS2. The story is well written, the voice acting is decent, the mechanics feel satisfying, good replay value. New game plus RPG, so your character and items carry over when you start a new playthrough, that's a big bonus.

Crackdown8
Mar 27, 2014
It's basically GTA & The Hulk : Ultimate Destruction combined. Addictive open world playground. Crackdown improves on Ultimate Destruction in pretty much every direction and is much more tasteful than Prototype.

Fallout 210
Mar 27, 2014
Far ahead of its time non-linear RPG. Comparable to the Ultima series & Deus Ex in terms of influence and advances in virtual world building. This game is not very politically correct, it's only concerned with being a masterpiece.

Star Ocean: The Second Story10
Mar 27, 2014
The greatest Star Ocean game, the last good Star Ocean game, a true RPG classic. I love the complex "private actions" mechanic which allows the player to influence relationships and thus which ending you'll get. There are over 86 possible endings, setting a benchmark.
PlayStation

The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction8
Mar 27, 2014
Fun sandbox mayhem. One of the best open world games and one of the best superhero games ever made at the time of its release. It's kinda like Crackdown, which improved on this game in nearly every way possible. Of course since Ultimate Destruction came first, it's the daddy of Prototype & Crackdown -esque titles.

Harvest Moon: Back to Nature10

Remake of Harvest Moon 64. The best Harvest Moon. Although another remake of this game (Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town) arguably has more charm.

Just Cause 28
Mar 26, 2014
The massive procedurally generated open world is gorgeous, and all of it is the player's playground to cause chaos in. The game "Fuel" also creates a huge world like this, as does Daggerfall, but all in all this game oozes the most fun.

Baldur's Gate10
Mar 26, 2014
The atmosphere is incredible. I can't think of many 2D RPG games that can touch Baldur's Gate. Fallout 1 & 2 perhaps, I dunno. Though slightly blinded by nostalgia, in my opinion this is either the chosen one or at least top 3.

Batman: Arkham City9
Mar 26, 2014
Spider-Man (PS1) & Spider-Man 2 (PS2) & The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction used to be the best superhero games until the Arkham series stole all their sunshine. Arkham City is arguably the finest creation in the Arkham trilogy.

Spore8
Mar 26, 2014
It could have been revolutionary, it could have been the finest game ever crafted. Simplified to the max, catering to the lowest common denominator, content cut out of the game. EA ruined yet another masterpiece. Still, I rate this game 8/10 because it shows the potential of what games are capable of, how far we've come. Like the Jurassic Park Trespasser game, which was a bad game, yet introduced physics and a 3D open world before the Half-Life series came along.

I love cel-shaded Level 5 RPG games. When I play one it feels like every day is my birthday. They're like Skittles candy. This game is a birthday cake, an infinite supply of salty tears to oceans everywhere in the universe. You better believe extraterrestrials are playing this, for they made this game.
PlayStation 2

Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II8
Mar 26, 2014
If you're looking for 2D open world action adventure games then The Legacy Of Goku 2 & 3 (Buu's Fury) are excellent choices. I would love a console remake of this series, sort of like Sleeping Dogs meets Xenoblade Chronicles meets Mass Effect 2.
Game Boy Advance

Mario Tennis: Power Tour8
Mar 26, 2014
Beautiful graphics, tons of minigames, story mode like Mario Tennis for the GBC with many of the same characters, very creative new offensive & defensive super powers to beast tennis matches with. My only complaint is that the tennis matches are way too easy, Mario Tennis on the Game Boy Color was more challenging, this game is a breeze. It's super fun & charming though.

The Last of Us10
Mar 26, 2014
Perfection doesn't exist. The Last Of Us on PS3 shouldn't exist either. What sorcery is this? How is the PS3 able to have this jewel in its crown? Naughty Dog used dark magic on the PS1 to create the Crash Bandicoot games, and again on the PS3 to create Uncharted 2, but this game... it's the equivalent of Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii, a game that shouldn't exist on that system, but it does.
PlayStation 3

Sleeping Dogs8
Mar 26, 2014
Sleeping dogs feels like Fighting Force or Dynamite Cop or Arkham City meets Grand Theft Auto. You can interweave the environment in battles and chases, the game is very free flowing. Not a cheap clone, more a cumulation of sugar and spice and all things nice.
Xbox 360

The Elder Scrolls Anthology10
Mar 26, 2014
One of the most revolutionary video game series of all time. Daggerfall is an endless adventure in the biggest virtual world ever created (via random & procedural generation), Morrowind and Skyrim are true masterpieces, and Oblivion + Shivering Isles is despite its flaws still one of the best open world games ever made.
PC
Mar 24, 2014
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim10
Mar 24, 2014
Bethesda made the revolutionary 1990 open world game "The Terminator", which was pretty much GTA III with crappy graphics and such an overlooked masterpiece. In 1996 they made the revolutionary game " The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall" which features thousands of towns and hundreds of thousands of NPCs (random & procedural generation). "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" (2002) was another classic. Finally, this game. Skyrim is the product of decades of advances in virtual worlds, the evolution of video games almost seems like a miracle. Todd Howard is a genius.

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain10

The Simpsons: Hit & Run8
Mar 24, 2014

Final Fantasy X8
Mar 24, 2014
Corridors, the game. Apparently, director Motomu Toriyama went several steps further in Final Fantasy 13 and made that game 1 long corridor (haven't played FFXIII). FFX is a pretty good game, albeit Auron is a better main character than Tidus, & the game is way too linear. Rated 8/10 because I love the Blitzball minigame, it alone is worth the price.

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings10
Mar 24, 2014
It's just so goood. I enjoy playing this much more than any other RTS game, because it has more heart and soul and charm. Do you need fancy graphics to enjoy chess? Maybe if the pieces were ultra realistic statues that could move like in that Harry Potter movie. The AOE2 gameplay is perfect, love this game.
PC

Blade Runner10
Mar 24, 2014
This game is another undiscovered masterpiece. The NPCs live their virtual lives independently, they don't wait around for the player to make a move. Therefore multiple endings shouldn't come as a surprise. The writing is great, the atmosphere is just sooo good, the graphics are still so gorgeous after all these years. Best movie video game? Best movie video game!

It's just so perfect, pretty much to PS3 what Dragon Quest VIII was to PS2. Exploration, catching monsters, gorgeous graphics, charming, brilliant story. Studio Ghibli makes awe inspiring films, I hope they'll make many more gems such as this game, as the line between movies and interactive games continues to blur.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King10
Mar 24, 2014
The best Dragon Quest ever made. An ageless masterpiece, probably the best RPG for PS2. It's a gorgeous cel-shaded open world, nearly a decade later it still looks luscious and vibrant. My only complaints are that only a select few armours appear wearable when the character equips them, also the NPCs just run around in circles instead of having daily schedules. The day/night cycle is beautiful aesthetically & it influences NPCs and monsters. You can collect monsters for your monster team, which reminds me very much of Pokémon games. A ton of content, exquisite polish, unbelievable that this is a PS2 game, truly squeezed each drop out of the system's capabilities.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!8
Mar 24, 2014
This game is pure joy. Especially playing against friends and family. The music and tracks are gorgeous, the gameplay is fluent, the controls are excellent, the amount of polish that went into this game is impressive. Personally I think MK:DD is the second best kart racer ever made (1st place is CTR), but of course that's subjective.

Fable: The Lost Chapters9

Pokemon Emerald Version10
Mar 24, 2014
The best Pokémon game for the Game Boy/Game Boy Colour/Game Boy Advance. Once again the critics don't know jack, there's a huge amount of content, it's polished to the max, 76/100? Really? For shame. These are the same people who would destroy this game if too many changes were made, "oh it doesn't feel/play like Pokémon anymore".

Mar 24, 2014
Legacy Of Goku 2 & Legacy Of Goku 3 (Buu's Fury) are some of the best 2D open world action adventure games I've ever played. The critic reviews for this game are beyond awful, this game is sweeter than hot coco.

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town10
Mar 24, 2014
The best Harvest Moon game (perhaps even GBA game) ever. This game is incredible, it's gorgeous and the controls are excellent, the town feels alive, NPCs have daily & weekly schedules and birthdays. There is so much content, so many secrets, so much to unlock. Simple yet complex, if you appreciate deep gameplay with many nuanced layers, then look no further.

Final Fantasy VIII9
Mar 24, 2014
Squall isn't a likeable protagonist at all, the magic system is super boring (drawing/casting is easily the worst magic system ever created), the cast is a mixed bag. The music, atmosphere, mini games, & satisfaction (if you do the cards into items/no level up strategy) more than make up for it though. Honestly it's my favourite PSX Final Fantasy.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped9
Mar 24, 2014

Spyro: Year of the Dragon8
Mar 24, 2014
The best Spyro game ever, and the last good Spyro game. Spyro and Crash Bandicoot used to be so cool and fun, while their modern games are soulless. Also in Skylanders or whatever, Spyro looks mentally and physically challenged.

Final Fantasy VII9
Mar 24, 2014
Classic Squaresoft title. Great story, great atmosphere, great soundtrack. I love the materia system, now if only the summons worked like they do in FFX. I didn't care for the Road Rash -esque racing minigame nor the snowboard minigame, but the chocobo breeding and racing minigame is so deliciously yummy. I would love to play a FF VII remake that combines the best features from the entire series. Midgar is so Blade Runner, would be the best open world city ever.

Dungeon Keeper (2014)0
Mar 24, 2014
We live in a world where sociopaths and psychopaths rule us (banks, corporations, corrupt politicians, con artists, corrupt judicial systems, messed up ideologies that try to control people, etc.). Video games are meant to create virtual worlds where you can escape to. Alas no escapism allowed, as morally bankrupt companies such as EA are poisoning virtual reality as well. For shame.

Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen's Odyssey is an undiscovered gem. Look past the graphics to discover a masterpiece. One of my wet gaming dreams is Nintendo remaking LBA 1&2 for consoles, because these games have as much charm as Zelda/Mario.
