Battlefield 1943

This is like a horrible Battlefield clone, except it is actually called Battlefield. Guns aim like bricks, there's zero to unlock/change, and to top it all off, it is no where near the quality you expect with the Battlefield name. Don't bother.

This is one of those games that, while they could have done more with it, it's the best modern use of the IP. This is great. Fall of Cybertron will be better.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

I usually don't play JRPG's. I don't hate them, but they're just not my thing. However, on a whim, I bought Dragon Quest IX and I can't stop playing it. The combat system is the usual JRPG fare, but it's tried and tested and works very well. I'm only 15 hours in but the story is the perfect amount of complex: there's a lot to keep interest yet there's never too much for you to lose track or get confused. The graphics are pretty great for a DS game and full of charm, just like other DQ games seem to do. My main issue would be vocations. The problem being that you can only switch them after you've played a significant chunk of the game, and then you start at Lv. 1 again. Some skills carry over but it's still annoying to train up a character again. However, DQIX is an excellent game and definitely a recommended buy. And take that from a rookie JRPG player.

Brink

After seeing the trailers and screenshots of Brink, it became one of my most anticipated games. When I played it, it quickly became my biggest gaming disappointment. Guns are so weak it feels like you're firing paper bullets. Friendly AI is atrocious yet enemy AI is ridiculously intelligent, making the single player a grind to beat, even on the easier modes. Gun attachments are unlocked through completing challenges, but thanks to horrible friendly AI these become extremely hard to achieve. However, the parkour/free-running elements work pretty well, and the action wheels work great too. But those two things are where any praise ends, and where a torrent of criticism begins. Keyword: Unfinished.

Star Fox 64 3D

There's no doubt that Star Fox 64 3D is a fine remake of an old classic, but some people may find it very short. To complete the story once takes only an hour, however the game was clearly made to be played repeatedly as there are multiple routes/missions through the story. Other routes included it took me under 5 hours to complete. Multiplayer not being online is a massive flaw, to say that Star Fox is such a fun game for everybody. You can, once the story is completed, try the score attack mode and get medals on each mission, but for some people this isn't very appealing. Nintendo could have at least thrown in a few new bonus missions/routes to figure out. However, the graphics and controls are far superior to the original and make a great game even greater.

Toy Soldiers is an excellent game from start to finish. An brilliant spin on the tower defence genre bundled with buckets of action. One of the finest looking and enjoyable downloadable titles I've ever played. Oh, and you can play as Rambo.
