DOOM9
Aug 5, 2018
This game is excellent and exactly what I expect from a mindless shooter. The action is non stop and the story minimal. The shooting mechanics are great and the weapons varied. Most weapons are useful throughout the game and you switch between them depending on context. I’m not a fan of boss fights but I found the ones in this game to be a challenge without being frustrating. I’m knocking a point off because having completed it the replay value is limited however this was money well spent.

Everybody's Golf7
Aug 5, 2018
Video game golf hasn’t changed much in the 30 years I’ve been playing. Timing of clicks or button presses on a power bar is the core mechanic. I enjoy this game’s implementation which is fair and fun. What I dislike about this game is that only one course is available when you start and you have to grind for hours to unlock the others. Why?!? It serves no purpose other than to limit the players enjoyment. With all the courses unlocked this game is a 9/10 but with the course unlock frustration it’s a 7.

Nioh8
Aug 5, 2018
Nioh is a hard but fun game with the exception of the boss fights. I have currently been stuck on a boss for a few days and I am really struggling to find the motivation for another tedious, long winded button bash that I might eventually win if I’m lucky and make no mistakes. It’s just not fun for me. Unfortunately this means I can’t progress in the game and after about 10 hours play I think I’m done. 9/10 without the boss fights, 6/10 as it stands. Update: You can call in another random player from the Internet to help you with the boss battles. For me this removes much of the frustration from the game. I've definitely got my money's worth from this title.

For Honor6
Feb 24, 2017
For Honor is very satisfying when you successfully defeat a difficult opponent or multiple opponent. It is very frustrating when you make a mistake and get killed. Whether the balance between these two adds up to overall fun or irritation will depend on you as an individual. It doesn’t help that the game is plagued with networking issues; I’ve given up on several occasions after 5+ successive attempts to play resulted in network failure after less than a minute in game.

Stardew Valley9
Feb 24, 2017
**** Valley is a fun and relaxing game. It’s leisurely paced and easy. It’s also repetitive and single player only. It may not have the reward of competitive multiplayer but it doesn’t have the stress either. This game will keep you entertained for 20+ hours which seems good value for the price. Even if you don’t think this would be your cup of tea I’d recommend giving it a go anyway, you might be surprised.

Bloodborne7
Feb 24, 2017
Bloodborne is an excellent game however it has a brutal learning curve which requires perseverance to overcome. You will die and replay the initial section of the game so many times you'll lose count and your commitment will be tested. You are punished for dying by what feels like a long re-spawn loading time and having to fight your way back through the same enemies you struggled to defeat the last time round. There is no quick save and re-spawn points are few and far between. Rather like Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow you get a little better each iteration until eventually you succeed. Like a plane climbing through bad weather you punch through and into brilliant sunshine. The game remains hard but now you are competent in the mechanics it's a joy to play. You may chose to revisit the early section that caused so much frustration but this time your foe fall with consummate ease. It feels like redemption as you carve your way through the same enemies you previous struggled against now barely taking a scratch. Don't give up on this game and the reward will be many hours of fun. Update Shortly after writing my review I got bored with the repetitive nature of the game and had a few days off. I never went back. It's feels like a chore playing the game and a stressful grind. I play games for fun and when they stop being fun I stop playing.

No Man's Sky4

I've been awaiting this game with anticipation for some time I really wanted to like it but unfortunately the two words I'd use to describe it are boring and repetitive. The purpose of the game is to gather resources; unfortunately that's it. You start with little storage capacity which means a lot of what you gather you have to discard. You strive to accumulate enough money to buy a bigger ship so you don't have to throw as much stuff away. The game boasts are huge number of planets but the difference between them is just the colour and what's available to pick up. After a couple of days play I feel I've got all the enjoyment I can from this game.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain0

I bought this game due to high review scores and started playing with optimism. I have played for approximately one hour and dislike it so much I've deleted it. I wouldn't really call it a game it's more like a bad film. It's a series of tedious cut scenes I crawl between. Some bad guys are searching for me however they must be blind because one of them was inspecting a corpse barely 20cm away and failed to notice me. I have a companion who walks in what sounds like high heels even though he's wearing rubber hospital shoes. The control system is clumsy and I find myself unable to avoid walking into fire. My hospital outfit must be military issue as my character believes there is a side holster. I'm clearly a medical genius as I can heal a broken arm in about 5 seconds just by pulling on it. I don't expect brutal realism but this is so preposterous it's **** my immersion and enjoyment. What a disappointment, I hope I can get a refund.

Mortal Kombat X9

Mortal Kombat X is a very entertaining game. If you like fighting games it will keep you entertained for hours. There's a wide selection of characters and the game seems well balanced. It's irritating that a number of characters are additional charged DLC but tere's enough variety for them not to be missed. Overall a great game that's well worth buying.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth2

I haven't played a Civilisation game since Civ3 and it looks like I haven't missed anything. The graphics are an improvement but same dull core remains. The game is a tedious chore to play and I've uninstalled after just 5 hours.

Real Boxing5

A disappointing game let down by bad AI and a lack of speed / fluidity. As you progress in career mode it feels like the computer cheats rather than the difficulty increasing. You can work hard blocking and jabbing only to have your hard earned gain wiped out inexplicably by shots from your opponent that appeared to be blocked. The game feels sluggish. Even with 100% speed your jabs and combinations are slow apart from once in a blue moon when they inexplicably speed up for a couple of hits. I can throw faster punch combinations than these professional boxers!

In my opinion this is one of the two best platform games ever made; the other being Super Mario World. The controls are intuitive and responsive. You die a lot but it never feels unfair. It's a tough game but you always feel a few tweaks, a bit more practise and you'll beat the level. The level design is brilliant and the difficulty curve progressive. You'll look back at levels you thought challenging an hour ago and chuckle at how trivial they now seem. In summary a brilliant game that will give you sweaty hands! Oh .. don't play without a controller.

This game has good potential but in my opinion it's let down by the controls which never feel intuitive. I frequently find myself missing a landing because I'm pressing the wrong combination or jumping when I didn't intend to do so. Close but no cigar.
