Pros: - Fun side-scrolling shooter gameplay. - Challenging, but death gives you a different character, so not frustrating. - Map-maker. - Funny. Cons: - Short.

This mindless game is just about buying stuff over and over again for simulated rewards. Games like this just exploit people's brains, giving them fake rewards for zero challenge. Avoid at all costs, it is basically a digital drug. I give it 1/10 for cute art style. P.S. When the developers released an expansion that increased the length of the game (i.e. time you have to spend before getting all rewards), people were angry. People play this game just to finish it. That is not the mark **** game.

This mindless game is just about clicking on enemies over and over again for simulated rewards. It's like they took Diablo and removed the gameplay, the character builds, everything that makes it interactive besides clicking and numbers going up. Games like this just exploit people's brains, giving them fake rewards for zero challenge. Avoid at all costs, it is basically a digital drug. I give it 1/10 for cute art style.

tldr: Like Borderlands, not quite as polished, but MMO and free! A fun MMO shooter, solid shooting and evasion mechanics and Borderlands-style random loot. Events which attract large groups of players who all need to work together makes this game's multiplayer fun, it does not require grouping a lot of the time. Apparently it used to have bugs, so far it has been stable for me. People who are expecting another WoW style game may be disappointed, people who are looking for Borderlands with seamless multiplayer will probably like this. Game is free-to-play now so it is great value, there are few penalties for not being a paid player. Story is not bad (especially compared to most MMO's where the story is dull). Biggest downside is that it might get repetitive after a while. Getting to do MMO gameplay in a game that actually makes an effort to have good gameplay is rare. This game lets you drive around in ATVs and do jumps and stuff, so there is actually physics! No riding a horse that has no mass! There is a lot of strategy in what perks you equip, what power you use, and what equipment you have in your loadout. Its refreshing to actually have to think about strategy in a character build instead of just give your tank lots of armor or your healer high Wisdom, for example! I find that this game is most fun because it eliminates a lot of the penalties that most MMORPGs have when trying to get a group. Character level is not so important, and there are not classes, so you don't have to, for example, wait forever for a healer to come along before doing a quest, you just play with your friends or anyone in the area who is also doing the quest. Quest objectives are also shared with nearby players, so there is no having to race to complete an objective, and have to wait for it to reset if you didn't get to it first. Very few penalties for playing near other people compared to most MMORPGs. Personally I try a lot of MMO games, but was unsatisfied with all of them until this one. Games like WoW and SWTOR have boring gameplay (imo) and most shooters like Planetside 2 are all PvP. This is a shooter with mostly PvE, just what I was looking for.

I really wanted to like this game. I mostly play games single player though, and I feel that the single player experience is Minecraft's biggest weakness. Exploring is fun at first, as is mining minerals and getting better gear, but this quickly becomes repetitive because there is not as much to find. Building grand structures and complex mechanisms (the highlight of the game) is not much fun in a world where you are the only one to appreciate it. Combat is another big weakness. There are essentially only two ways to attack enemies: melee attacks and bows. All weapons in the game have the same "attacks" so combat is the same formula throughout the game, you just don't have many options. This all might have been tolerable if the game had a pleasant atmosphere, but with graphics that I personally don't think look good, and a lack of good music, the game is not fun to spend time in. If it had better physics, more combat options (like magic), and more "progression" the game would be fun for single player, but as it is now it's really just a sandbox building game with some survival, exploration, and combat elements tacked on.

Good combat, exploration, and interactive cutscenes, but could use better weapon management, rpg mechanics, and survival gameplay mechanics. This game feels like playing a movie, but in a good way. The action is fantastic, the game transitions between gameplay, cutscenes, and interactive events seamlessly, creating an experience that is exciting to watch but still keeps you on your toes. There is not a lot of dialogue, it is mostly action, but the action is done well. The exploration is so-so. The levels sort of alternate between linear action levels with no need to explore, and slightly more open levels with loot to find. This keeps the game from getting too repetitive, which is nice. Acrobatics are pretty standard and not very challenging. The weapon upgrade system is not great, but better than nothing I guess. You find Scrap which you use to upgrade your weapons, but it doesn't have a huge impact on how you will be using them. It is also pretty mindless: you just loot all the containers you see then craft what you can at campsites. The RPG mechanics are an unnecessary add-on. You get XP from killing enemies and finding treasure, and spend the XP on skills, most of which are not game-changing. This game tries to present itself as survivalism, but that is just a theme. You can hunt, but it only gets you XP. There is no need to look for food, water, etc. The game even has the ususal health regeneration that action games all have these days. The only resources are scrap and ammo. Story is not bad. I am not a big Tomb Raider fan: they were too silly and sexist for my taste. This one is better, the main character is more human. The change feels a lot like comparing the James Bond movie Casino Royale to most of the earlier ones: this is more gritty, more human, and more interesting. All in all, fun for a 14 hour playthough, and maybe another in a few months. It was entertaining, as action usually is, but don't expect more than that. I recommend getting it on sale.

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten8

Fun mix of tower defense and RPG mechanics. The story is interesting, the characters are humorous, and the art is cute. The difficulty is well balanced, because you can grind to level up your party if a fight is too hard, but formulating good strategies is still rewarded. The mechanics are easy to grasp, the game has good tutorials (good because they are informative but not overwhelming or tedious), and you have enough options to customize your strategy, but not so many that the game becomes annoying. The UI is clean and there are also keyboard shortcuts. The game is real-time but you can pause to issue orders or speed up to finish a easy battle quickly. Inventory management has some useful, innovative features to make replacing old equipment fast and easy, quickly presenting the player with the option to sell the old gear. All in all, a well done game. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan or tower defense and RPG games.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon9
May 4, 2013
This game takes the Far Cry 3 gameplay that we love, and repackages it with a hilarious new theme and some new gameplay elements. The Terminator-esq style is great fun, although the animated cutscenes can be a little boring. The music is awesome, if you like the Terminator main theme, which I do. The main character is hilarious, badass-ly complaining about tutorials and collectibles. The map is about 1/4 the size of the map in Far Cry 3, but packed with stuff to do. The new bases present different challenges then the ones in FC3, with structures more focused on walls and guard towers. The big addition to the game is Blood Dragons, a wildlife animal that is incredibly strong but easy to sneak around. A new throwable gives you a way to attract them to enemy outposts, giving you a new "tool". My only complaint is the game length/size, which is still very acceptable for the price tag. This game just has the potential for so much more content. All in all, this is a great game for fans of Far Cry 3 or Terminator, and for the price tag, this stand-alone expansion is a great deal, especially compared to most overpriced DLC on the market.

I could not make heads or tails of this game. The lack of direction, the confusing mechanics, make this a very hard game to get into. Maybe this appeals to some people, but not me. I probably could have enjoyed it more if I wasn't dying over and over and restarting from the beginning each time...

Far Cry 39

(Single Player Review) As a big Far Cry 2 fan, I was happy with this game. The story and characters are an improvement over FC2, as well as the stealth mechanics. The wild animals are a great addition, the game formula is basically a three-way war between Pirates, Natives (your side), and Predators. The amount of random crazy **** that can happen keeps the game from getting boring. The biggest downside is that the game is too easy, especially if your the stealthy, careful type. Fortunately there are mods, the most well-known of which is Ziggys mod, which make the mechanics, especially the HUD, more challenging, and I highly recommend it for a second playthrough. If you liked Far Cry 2, you will probably like this game.

A Valley Without Wind8

This game has changed a lot since it was first released. The graphics are the only real drawback now. This is a fun game for people looking for metroidvania gameplay, lots of stuff to find, procedural worlds, and infinite play value, if you don't mind the repetition. And frankly, I find this game's repetition much more preferable than games where you have to fight the exact same fights over and over. But forget these reviews and just go try the demo.

Dead Island8

Pros: Good graphics, fun melee combat, Borderlands-style weapon drops and class system, lots of quests and areas to explore. Cons: still buggy (August 2012) graphics, sloppy map design (i.e. I jump into inaccessable areas a lot), repetative gameplay. Fun if you like zombie survival, open world, and co-op games, and don't mind a lack of polish. P.S. This game is perfect for necrophiliacs, as there is a disturbing amount of half-naked zombies. =)
