The Mandalorian: Season 3

I've enjoyed both season 1 and 2 of this series. While there were some dud-episodes, the over-arching story was tight and led to meaningful and satisfying conclusions. I continue to show up for Season 3 with high hopes only to be disappointed over and over again. I'm on episode 6 and I no longer feel committed to the characters. The story feels uninspired and directionless. While there have been some great effects sequences, the season is starting to feel like a formulaic Saturday morning cartoon. Side quest of the week video game plots. It's starting to feel like the story has run out of gas and has lost it's way. It truly feels like the writers are making things up as they go along hoping it ends up **** like they are simply producing content in the interim until they come up with a solid, fresh idea. They should have stopped at Season 2.

I'm finding it hard to get into this series. the overly silly/jokey tone is becoming very annoying. There aren't any compelling villains. Omega's accent is irritating beyond words. The Batch themselves are one-dimensional cartoons lacking in depth or interest. Too silly and childish for me. Moments of gravitas are constantly ruined with stupid humour and bicker-banter. disappointing. A sniper named crosshair? A strong guy named "Wrecker". Just awful.

Just watched episode 5. The story and plot is very much like the comic books. It's fun, melodramatic and it's great to see Vader doing his thing. Yes, there are some serious logical issues, head scratching moments, etc, but it's still fun. For the record, I do feel that this is technically rather weak at times. The score is usually awful, the effects sometimes feel cheap and low budget, and it fails to achieve cinematic grandeur. Almost feels like an ambitious, well done fan film. It should be more than this IMO. Still, I love the drama and overall story. It's dark and intense. Cutsey, precocious Leia character is a bit much at times.

This series fails to find its purpose or characters. Star Wars has never felt so tiny as the whole thing happens on Tatooine on what appears to be a very budget-limited amount of sets and locations. So much of this makes no sense. The cheezy teenagers supposedly can't find work and live in the slums, yet have what appears to be very expensive hobbies and equipment. Where are Jabba's minions? How can Boba Fett presume to take control without anything backing him up? Why does he want to do this? Why stay on Tatooine? This story is all over the place and struggling to find purpose and emotional oomph. For me Star Wars has always been about planet-hopping, novelty, and interesting new things to take in. This feels like an on-going re-hash of the same creatures, scenery, settings, and even ideas such as strangling a monster with its own chains. This is falling very short of the creative magic of the original films. Boba Fett is coming across as a rather dull, nice guy who, in no way feels like the guy waling around Empire Strikes Back or kicking ass in the comics. This story concept was a very bad mis-calculation and represents a massive missed-opportunity. Star Wars is operating under the continuing belief that if it has Banthas, Jawas, sand dunes, and characters that look like a Mandalorian, then fans will gobble it up. It's the ambitious creativity working towards creating something fresh and exciting that makes Star Wars great; not rehashing things that we loved because it was new and exciting in the past.

This show is deeply flawed. It feels like a show for four year olds that no four year old will watch. The characters are annoying and unlikeable and the overall setting is bland and repetitive. It lacks any semblance to the sheer creative force of any other Star Wars movie or TV show. It goes nowhere narratively, there's no exploration of other planets, no sense of real stakes, and characters that begin to rival Jar Jar Binks in terms of their appeal to infants. The main characters are like nails on a chalkboard in just about every way. I can't see anyone liking this, young or old. A total failure.

To me this feels like Star Wars without all the pressure to impress every single person on the planet with a single movie. I think it's a brilliant combination of excellent Saturday morning cartoon story telling, fantastic visuals, likeable characters, and risk taking in terms of plot and novelty. Makes the sequels feel like a cynical, corporate marketing scheme. I can't watch the sequels after watching this. They're all flash and no story.
