A slow start which is more somber than expected, but this series really shines as it progresses and you start to see some of that tongue-in-cheek, self aware humour that made The Favourite a classic. Addictive characters, loving and hating each other in a gaudy palace. Fantastic sets, costumes and score. What’s not to love (well, unless you’re after accurate history).

Kaley Cuoco holds this series together with a fantastically messy and charming performance - but after a strong start you can feel the wheels coming off the refreshment trolley. The shallowness of the plot starts to hamper the show’s momentum and despite a good amount of fun characters chewing the scenery I found my attention drifting by the midway point.

Brilliant chemistry between a refreshingly unique television pairing. Smart and Einbinder are just brilliant together and elevate some of the more familiar material at the beginning and then really shine once the show catches up to them. A hoot!

This show was a frustrating watch. Great performances for the most part but characters often behaved in a somewhat outlandish and dramatic manner to justify the story. I also found the ending ‘twist’ laughable and really undermined the series.
