He cruises the streets in search of goodness, something which he feels is lacking. Constantly surrounded by what he perceives as ugliness around him, the taxi cab allows him to observe the world but from a distance. Travis desperately wants to change the world into a place where actions are organic and not done with harmful intent, in a sense he wants to throw away what he views as the waste matter. In his eyes there is the world as how it can be, but there are far too many rotten apples not just in New York but also as he's experienced from his time at war in Vietnam. It is not so much a movie about alienation in my eyes but rather about a man trying to come to terms with a society to which he feels out of place and doesn't seem to understand.

What amazed me most about this moving is how real it feels to me. Almost every movie the characters do things that are so unnatural and stupid choices that makes no sense. This movie everything felt so real, the way they behaved, the choices they took it all just feels so natural and real. Absolutely amazing movie in my opinion.

This movie felt raw, brutal, primitive, dark, mythological and EPIC. Robert Eggers is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors for his pure originality and vision. I feel like the man must spend countless hours studying the time periods he makes movies within and cares so deeply about putting artistic and striking interpretations into all of them. His movies aren't for everyone, but you enjoy his style and purpose, you'll love this movie!

This film was so beautifully filmed because it was all filmed in ambient light. No extra lights, just with the light around them, and reflectors. From a photographer's perspective, this is extremely hard to do so this film is absolutely phenomenal.
