Pokemon Sun10
Nov 26, 2016
I should first note that I do not think this is a 10/10 game. I rated it 10 to offset the crazy unfair zeros this game is getting from people who seem to have only played the first hour of the game and gave up, have only watched the trailers, or are salty because they were banned for getting it early. Right off the bat, this game is gorgeous, the new graphics and overall art style of the game are much-needed atmosphere change for the Pokemon series. Pokemon has finally untethered itself from its grid-based history. There is no grid movement at all, and no option to use it, because the map is not built on the grid. The world is designed to look and feel far more organic, like most modern game worlds. It truly feels like Pokemon has *finally* come into its own with this. Very similar praise can be given to the music. The soundtrack in this game is absolutely gorgeous and it doesn't sound like your average Pokemon music at all. Additionally, the range in styles between the tracks can vary drastically, but each track always succeeds in setting the tone of the area or scenario just right. There is also a great deal of thought and detail put into much of the music. There is heavy use of leitmotif, from the recurring "Welcome to Alola" theme popping up in different forms throughout your adventure, to certain team/character leitmotifs being used in the music to not only complement but cleverly forshadow parts of the story. Now comes the story. This has to be the best, most well thought-out story in the main series Pokemon games. I believe this game has dethroned Black/White. At the very beginning of the game, you are shown an intriqueing cutscene that sets the tone for the rest of the game's story. While the story takes a while to take off after that, the knowledge of that opening scene really keeps you interested in how this story is going to unfold, and it all pays off eventually. Meanwhile, the game keeps you occupied with less-interesting but still entertaining and enticing plots and motivations, such as your pursuit of the Island Challenge and Team Skull's hilariously inept goons attempting to terrorize the region. The Island Challenge is an excellent replacement for the standard Pokemon League Challenge we have been used to for 20 years now. It really aqcuaints the player with the vibrant and unique culture of the Alola region and feels like a breath of new life for the series. The Island Challenge is fun, lighthearted, and strangely enticing. It is extremely refreshing and makes Sun/Moon feel very different from your average Pokemon games, and they benefit strongly from that. As for Team Skull, before playing the game I was worried that they would be too silly of a team to be involved in a serious story, but the way the overall story is handled makes Team Skull's silliness entirely acceptable. They are meant to be a large part of the comic relief of this game (though this game is already hilarious!), although their leader is carefully revealed to be a somewhat tragic character. I'm not going to spoil anything but the story gets much MUCH more interesting than just "Team Skull does bad thing, stop them". The significant characters in this game are all fantastic and lovable in their own way. Every character fills their niche perfectly and the character development of some of the more important characters is unmatched by any other Pokemon game. It would be a tragedy for any one character to be removed from this game. The same cannot be said for X/Y, to say the least. This game does *real* storytelling, and it made me fall in love with its characters such that I was actually sad when the story was over because it meant I wasn't going to see more from them. It was like watching my favorite show end. The improved graphics and art style also help communicate the story much more effectively. Okay, enough about the story and style. In terms of the basic mechanics, it's still Pokemon, but there are numerous quality of life improvements. To name a few: -There is a dedicated button to throw a Pokeball. -The game will show you the type-effectiveness of your moves against your current opponent, given that you have seen the opponent Pokemon before. -HMs have been removed in favor of a system that doesn't force you to compromise the strategy of your team. -EXP is scaled to your level to prevent over-leveling and to help under-leveled mons. That last one is important. This game still has the EXP Share functionality of X/Y, but the scaled EXP formula prevents the sort of ludicrous over-leveling people experienced in X/Y. Additionally, the AI is better, NPCs use EV-trained mons, and the battles are overall more cleverly designed. This has resulted in a considerably more difficult game than X/Y, even with the EXP Share on and battle mode set to "switch". I actually *lost* a few story battles. Overall this game is an unique, enticing, challenging and extremely well-polished adventure, especially for the Pokemon series.

So it's Borderlands with less colors and more horror. I swear each mutant that attacks is an individual mini-jump scare. Really pretty exciting actually. There's also a ton of side-stuff to do if you're bored. There's racing and even a collectible-card metagame. Not to mention side-quests to keep you busy if you're bored. The story isn't anything special but it has a solid premise to keep the game rolling. Characters are pretty damn good, well acted, well designed, and well developed. Shooting is solid, looting is satisfying. There are some problems with texture pop-in due to the megatexture thing. Best version is on PC, the console versions are buggy as hell. PC version is still a little buggy but a lot better. Doesn't deserve a 10/10 but I wanted to counter the awful score users are giving it. It's much better than a 4.9/10, you guys are ridiculous. Solid 8/10, if not more.

Crysis 310

Crysis 3 is incredibly good. Crysis 3 acts as a fantastic finale to the series. That being said, If you have not played BOTH Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 before playing Crysis 3, your experience will be substantially dampened. Crysis 3 bears the most depth in story compared to it's predecessors, being the first Crysis game that actually made me feel a considerable amount of emotion. Crysis 3 serves as a decent sequel to Crysis 2, as well as the successor that Crysis 1 originally deserved. Crysis 3 also features many open areas to explore, making it evident that Crytek has made an effort to pay respects to the open world elements in Crysis 1. Heavily acknowledging the events in both Crysis 1 and Crysis 2, Crysis 3 wraps up the trilogy beautifully. While it is the shortest, it may be the strongest. I hate to use such an overused term, but this game is simply epic.

SimCity0
Mar 5, 2013
This game is a disgrace to the SimCity franchise. In summary, this version of SimCity equates to a dumbed-down Facebook game. The always-online-DRM is pretty much a dealbreaker, but I might have still considered buying it if it weren't for the restrictions this system places on you. So as the term suggests, always-online-DRM means there is NO offline single player for this game. Want to play a single player world? Cool, you can do that, just sign into our servers first. Don't have internet? Need to pass the time on an airplane? Just play SimCity- oh wait, you can't. Ok, surely it can't be THAT big a deal, right? Wrong, not when you learn that you can't even save your worlds to your own hard drive. Everything you do has to be stored in EA's collection of poorly sustained servers. This also removes some of the magic of the old SimCity games, since it restricts you from destroying a city and reloading from an old save. This DRM system is restricting pretty basic freedoms of gaming. So there's the DRM system, which is a dealbreaker in itself, but what about the gameplay? Good news, that's a dealbreaker too. The cities are extremely small, you have no control over regional transport, there are no subways, and there is no terraforming. This game is completely misleading. This version of SimCity does not qualify as a full fledged video game. It qualifies as a Facebook game, at best. Don't waste your money on EA's little trap.

Far Cry 310

Far Cry 3 is now among one of the most amazing games I have ever played. Far Cry 3's story brought me to the boundaries of my very emotions. The story is so immersive, It managed to get my heart racing during extremely suspenseful moments, as if I was truly experiencing it for myself. Every character has a very distinctive, believable, and well-developed personality. You truly build an emotional connection with these characters, which sets the stage for an extremely influential story. Not only that, but the design choices made in the game greatly amplify the immersion, and encourage you think about the deeper themes that it's dark and unpredictable story may possess. But what about the gameplay? Good news, it's absolutely incredible. You are a warrior, a hunter, a stuntman, a skilled craftsman, you are everything you could ever hope to be and more. This game allows you to do so much, it's almost unbelievable. This is all complimented by the elaborate, beautiful, and extensive open world environment. The island is your playground, and even after completing the story there is still much left to accomplish on the island. Now, this is primarily a single-player review, as I value a good single-player experience over a multiplayer experience any day. However, I was delightfully surprised by the multiplayer in this game. I expected the multiplayer to be a more ****, since the single-player is already enough to warrant an amazing rating. However, Ubisoft actually delivered a decent, entertaining, and well-developed multiplayer experience. I give the story a 10/10, the gameplay a 10/10, and the multiplayer an 8/10. I am rounding this score up to a solid 10/10, because like I said, this is primarily a single-player review, and the single-player is worthy of this rating.

Crysis 29
Dec 23, 2012
Let's get one thing straight: Crysis 2 is, in fact, more linear and less open world than Crysis. However, don't let this deter you from this amazing experience ****. Many Crysis fans find Crysis 2 to be a disappointment, but that is primarily because they expected a game that would follow the same formula as the first Crysis. This is not the case, Crysis 2 changes its formula a bit and becomes a less open, more linear game. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it is just different. Crysis 2 still delivers beautifully in combat, storytelling, and graphics. You may have to look a little deeper than usual if you want to fully understand the story, but to some people (me included) that is part of the fun. Crysis 2 is not a better or worse experience than Crysis 1, it is just different. That being said, It will suite different people accordingly. So don't be surprised if you see Crysis 1 fans bashing Crysis 2 - this means nothing. They got a great game, they have just blinded themselves with frustration because they didn't get the exact game they were hoping for. Most of the negative reviews on here are just angry Crysis fanboys who probably made a Metacritic account for the sole purpose of telling everyone they hated this game. Don't take what they say seriously, they never gave the game a chance to begin with.

This game is crazy hard. And for that same reason it is addictive as all hell. This game will make you want to kill yourself, but then you will say "wait, before i kill myself, i need to beat my high score". Then you never end up killing yourself.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive9
Aug 30, 2012
This is just what the Counter-Strike series has been waiting for. A modernization. However it feels incomplete with the lack of hostage maps (there is only 2), the gameplay is spot on, competitive, and fresh; while all staying true to the classic Counter-Strike experience. The new gamemodes Demolition and Arms Race are very fun if you are looking for a more fast-paced experience, and the new maps are sleek and good looking. This game is also standing evidence that the Source engine is growing and getting better, as the graphics are phenomenal. This game is an upgrade to the entire series in every way. It's still lacking hostage maps though. Since i trust Valve to add more hostage maps, I am giving this game this great rating.

Incredible! Absolutely incredible! While it took me almost 5 years to beat because i got the game at a very young age in which i was incapable on comprehending more than half of the English language, that doesn't matter because even after pulling through it was an incredible experience. Did i mention it was incredible? This game is incredible.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story10
Aug 13, 2012
By far the most creative Mario & Luigi game in the series. With an immersive story, fun and addictive gameplay, and engaging battles of epic proportions, this game is a must play for any fan of Mario RPG's, or not. It's just a must play in general. Seriously this is amazing. And while you're at it, reading this, go ahead and get Superstar Saga, and maybe even Partners in Time. They are all bloody amazing.

Half-Life 2: Deathmatch7
Aug 5, 2012
The game itself can be a lot of fun and feel familiar for fans of classic deathmatch games like Half Life: Deathmatch or Unreal Tournament, and if played as such this game can be greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately, the community seems to be really putting an effort into deliberately ruining the game. There is a decent sized selection of servers, but only about 20% of them are probably even running a deathmatch gamemode. All of the other community created gamemodes are completely and utterly horrible. Even worse, out of all the servers running deathmatch maps, less than half of them are running Valve/stock maps. Most of the are running awful "killbox" maps, which are...well...just awful. tl;dr The game is good granted you are lucky enough to be able to find a server that isn't horrible. Stick to default gamemode and play Valve maps and/or Valve-tier community maps.

I'm going with the whole "short and sweet" review standpoint here, because that's really what it is. The game was somehow touching, mostly through its music it managed to immerse me in a sidescrolling pixelated work of art.

A short but unforgettable retro platformer adventure. Although it is short, this game was the only 8-bit style game to actually touch me emotionally. It wasn't the story that did it, it was the music. Sometimes i argue that this game is actually 3D, for the music adds the third dimension. It is the best chiptune music i have ever heard, and it is what motivates you to keep playing onward no matter how difficult the situation. Best platformer ive played in years.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition5
Jun 2, 2012
I love minecraft on PC, and that is why this version is such a shame. The creative mode is alright, but there is a very minimal assortment of blocks to choose from and the controls, but i wouldn't expect decent controls on a touch screen device anyway. What really angers me is the what Mojang tried to pass as "survival" mode. The current survival mode is pretty unbearable, seeing as most of the core features of survival mode dont even exist. You needto collect your own materials, but since there is no clay in the game yet you always have unlimited bricks. Same for glass, because there are NO FURNACES. No furnaces. Think about that. Think about all the uses for a furnace. Think about how necessary it is. Yea. That's half the game right there. So making torches is harder because you cant smelt charcoal, but even worse is the fact that dark places are unbearably dark. You can barely see anything. How am i supposed to go mining for coal so i can make torches, when the underground is too dark to see ANYTHING in. So by night time, the game is just annoying and not worth trying. I would just stick to creative. Survival is a disaster.

I truly enjoyed this game and quite honestly do not understand the bad reviews. The gameplay was solid and fresh and felt like a new experience. The story was a bit 'meh' but the amazing and unique scenarios and environments were fantastic and engaging. Also, the humor was the kind of awesome nonsense i would expect in more games. The devs weren't afraid to go overboard on **** jokes, and i respect them for that. It felt more realistic that way, knowing i would probably say the same thing in that scenario. Overall, the game was enjoyable and looking back at all the fun parts of the game i realize this game deserves an excellent rating.
