Demon's Souls10
Nov 30, 2020
Demon's Souls on PS5 feels like a next generation title. The graphics are phenomenal. The game is still as brutal and wonderful as ever. And the improvements made to the core gameplay are a breath of fresh air. if you've upgraded to the new generation and love the Souls series, I cannot recommend this game enough.

Nexomon: Extinction9
Sep 9, 2020
Where to begin? Nexomon feels like a natural progression of the old-school Pokemon games. It takes the things Pokemon built and seemingly improved them. Are there downsides? Absolutely. The humor grows tired rather quick and the capture mechanic feels clunky and a bit random. But what this game does well, it does extremely well. First, I love the designs of the 'mons. There seems to be an ever-growing supply of monsters to catch - I'm 20 hrs in and have only seen/caught roughly 1/3 of the monsters so far. The difficulty, which has been a large complaint of mine with Pokemon for generations now, feels balanced. Perhaps I'm not good at the game, but my 'mons faint frequently, which is nice. I don't feel like I can steamroll the game with one monster, and that, i feel, plays into the combat system. Speed. Speed matters. Moves have speed. Monsters have speed. If your move is quick enough, you'll go first. It's nice. The game also offers side-quests and missions. At one point I was helping a ghost find his house. That type of thing is a breath of fresh air. I see myself getting 80 hours out of this game. Easily. If you're looking for an old-school Pokemon game with a few nice twists and turns, you need to pick this up.

It is incredibly disheartening to know 2K is willing to lie to their consumers about the product they are releasing. This game shouldn't be on the market. I only play season mode - online play isn't for me, never has been - so my experience has been okay so far, though I do find it odd that the computer full court double teams players with 4 pts in the first quarter; however, the glitches and blatant lies told to those who buy the game for the online experience is enough to make me question the motives behind 2K. If you cannot release a working product in a years time, start releasing a game every other year. Simple.

Wargroove10
Feb 5, 2019
This game is solid. If you're looking for a Fire Emblem-esque experience while waiting for the real Fire Emblem game to drop, then Wargroove will definitely hold you over. Not to mention Chucklefish has promised free updates, free DLC, and other expansions to the already complete game. For $20, you cannot go wrong!

With seemingly all Jackbox Party Packs, there are some games that hit it out of the park and others that hit the dirt before reaching the plate. In this case, the same analogy applies.

Red Dead Redemption 210

This game single-handedly revolutionized what it means to be an "open-world" game. Every upcoming release will have to contend with the shadow of RDR2. Fun. Breathtaking. Enriching. Gritty. So many things can be said about Rockstar's latest game, but there's only one thing you really need to know: it's a must-play. (It's also discouraging to see people giving it bad reviews for it not being released on PC. I don't write bad reviews on PC games I wish were on console. It's time to grow up.)

God of War10
Sep 14, 2018
God of War is nearly flawless in everything it tries to execute. The story, combat, equipment system, lore, and so much more are all breathtaking and vastly better than most games releasing these days. The ending had me covered in chills and longing for more. I could spend hours running around, fighting, and exploring every nook and cranny the game has to offer. It truly is a masterpiece. However, I do have one complaint a lot of people seem to have: the enemies did not seem varied or special. It sometimes felt like the enemies were just being reskinned. Each area felt like it had 3 normal enemies and 1 challenge **** that's it. In the next title, I'd like to see more variety to the enemies, but other than that, the next game is already a Day-One purchase.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA9
Sep 14, 2018
After spending some time with YS VIII, I can safely say this game just works. The story is engaging and offers enough content to keep one entertained for hours on end. The combat is fun and switching between characters on the fly adds a more in-depth play style. Being able to switch between characters adds a sense of freshness to the game that other games lack. I have enjoyed recruiting people and building up the base so far (though I'm only like 15 hours in and haven't progressed a ton). Now, I will say one thing I do not like about the game is the walking/running animation. Adol and Co. seem to glide across the ground. I try not to nitpick stuff that does not really matter, but this is the main flaw I have with this game. If you're looking for a content filled RPG to keep you busy, YS VIII holds the keys to what you are looking for!

Unlike everyone reviewing this game based on MyPlayer, I'll speak on the things that actually matter in a sports game. The game plays better this year than previous years. Just by making the ball harder to drive and the opponents ankles harder to break, the game has taken a step forward. On offense, though I'm only a few games in, I cannot seem to spam the pick & roll like previous years. I feel like the computer defense tries to adjust to stop your offensive schemes. Also, I personally like the timed layups because it adds a level of I-cannot-drive-in-and-chuck-up-some-garbage-and-make-it-every-time. Now, the game has things it needs to improve: presentation, overall realism/look, and some gameplay flukes. I cannot stand when someone like Marvin Williams has the best game of his career against me...every time we play. Frank Kaminsky shouldn't be taking more shots than Kemba Walker. And that has been a huge complaint of mine for years now. They're too focused on the MyPlayer stuff to work on any actual gameplay. I'd still give the game a solid 8 so far. I'm excited to see how the game adjusts with different teams (will the Warriors play like the Warriors, will the Celtics play like the Celtics, etc...). If you're not in to the MyPlayer aspect, the game takes enough steps forward to warrant picking it up this year. If you're just looking to create a player a cheese-fest, apparently the game isn't for you.

Octopath Traveler9
Jul 13, 2018
Octopath Traveler is a return to those "good ole days" of gaming. When presented with an idea to tackle eight stories in one game, Octopath rises to the occasion and succeeds in many ways. This is a must-buy for JRPG fans!

Mario Tennis Aces8
Jun 27, 2018
Mario Tennis Aces might be the best Mario-sports game released to date; however, despite smooth mechanics, the game suffers in just enough areas to call for a mark-down purchase. Pros: The gameplay is engaging and smoking a ball past an opponent feels rewarding. The Adventure Mode adds a little extra incentive to playing. The online hasn't faltered and remains stable. The leveling system shows promise. Cons: The story is bland and should not be a selling point. There is a lack of content. It just feels empty in many ways. The KO is an interesting concept, but it feels gimmicky and can be incredibly frustrating in the challenges. The difficulty spike in the Adventure Mode can be overwhelming (curse you, Mirror level). The leveling and brackets fall flat and should be expanded upon or taken out all together. It's missing a statistical category to keep track of all of your matches and such. Overall, the game is really fun if you're playing with a friend or online; however, the drive to go back and play is limited. As stated above, wait and pick this up at a mark down if you have some games in the backlog that need more attention.
