Crimson Desert is one of the most rewarding open-world games I’ve played in years, but it absolutely makes you work for that payoff. Its opening hours are rough, the story never fully comes together, and the UI, inventory management, and control scheme can be frustratingly clunky. Still, once the world opens up, the game becomes something special. Exploration feels meaningful, not like filler, and the best rewards often come from curiosity, detours, and preparation rather than simply following the main quest. Combat is flashy, deep, and incredibly satisfying against groups of enemies, even if some boss fights lean too hard into frustration. This is basically Pearl Abyss making a single-player Black Desert: mechanically rich, often messy, and far more interested in systems, movement, and discovery than in telling a compelling story. If you value exploration over narrative and can push through a bumpy start, Crimson Desert is an easy recommendation. i want to thank the dev for taking the risk of making a game like this, in this economy!
