Resident Evil Requiem

Ever since the release of Re3 Remake, the series has felt like it strived to blend the survival horror of the classic games, with the fast paced action of 4-6. Requiem is easily the best attempt yet at this idea. Grace's sections are some of the best horror the series has produced, and manages to give you plenty of tools yet still make you feel small and insignificant. Then once control swaps back to Leon, the vibe is almost immediately Re4, sometimes even Re6 in the best way possible. This game is a love letter to everything that's come before it, and it nails the hybrid formula.

You already know, not only is this game still in contention for best game in the series, Re4 is one of the greatest games ever made. The fast pace arcade style action is top notch, with every gun feeling unique and fun, the feedback of the gameplay loop is remarkable. Its campy and doesn't take itself too seriously, but Re4 is and always will be a must play video game.

The jump from Re7 to 8 was quite the choice. 7 marked a return to Re1 style horror, while 8 took us all the way to Re4 with little room to breathe outside of some remakes. That said, Village is a solid homage to the style 4 started, if a bit lacking. Castle Dimitrescu and everything with Heisenberg are great fun, and while House Beneviento is a remarkable first set piece, it and the lake struggle to have anything interesting for replayability. Combine that with guns feeling almost strictly like upgrades, compared to 4 where everything felt unique and viable, 8 feels more like a 1 and done than anything.

The importance of Re7 can't be understated. The return to form not only brought upon a golden era of Resident Evil, it also marks the beginning of one of Capcoms best eras ever. That said, theres some snags with Re7. Its horror vibe is great, but it lacks in enemy variety, and replayability suffers due to late game areas not being as strong and the inability to skip cutscenes.

This game is actually super cool when you dont have a nerd in your ear whining about horror. This may be the most out there of the mainline Resident Evil games, but as an action game its remarkable. Controls are incredible and combat feels next level. If you can look outside of it lacking in what RE makes RE, you're in for an incredible time.

Resident evil 5 may not reach the highs of its predecessor, but it doubles down on the action and is a blast in its own right. The AI for Sheva is lacking, the inventory system is a step down, and frankly it is not a Resident Evil title in terms of horror. But its a fantastic action game from start to finish.

A remake for the ages, REmake almost entirely eclipses the original release and is a quintessential horror experience. The presentation has aged like a fine wine, and manages to be truly horrifying through its vibe and monsters. This is a must play for horror fans.

It's no secret that Re4 is seen as one of the greatest games ever made, and one that many people would argue didnt need to be remade, myself included. And yet capcom managed to capture lightning in a bottle twice, as Re4 Remake manages to not only be an incredible experience in its own right, it stands toe to toe with its original version. Remixing and changing layouts and characters and weapons to do its own thing, this game doesn't replace the original, but it isnt eclipsed by it either, and that is an impressive feat by itself.

The first and currently only remake in the series to be almost completely irrelevant compared to its original release. It's story and characterization of Jill is great, but its not enough to ignore the complete disregard for Nemesis as a stalker, the overall lack of flow from the gameplay loop. Compounded by its short run time, no extra modes, this game suffers as a remake and struggles as a standalone game due to its lack of replayability.

Re3 manages to do what no classic game before or after does, perfectly captures the vibe of a city at the dead center of an apocalypse. The chaos of it all is represented through restrictive corridors, somewhat random item locations, and Nemesis. The best stalker in the series is unbeat in the way he terrorizes the player, and is a force of nature that truly takes away all comfortability a player might have.

A remake that takes the original, and remixes it in a way that feels both familiar and incredibly fresh. Mr X goes from an after thought to a nightmare given form, and the RPD has never looked better. What it loses in the lack of a true A and B scenario and no zapping system, it gains in tight modern controls and fantastic creature design. A horror game that stands among the best of the best.

One of the greatest games on PS1, and a fantastic game to play even now. Enhancing just about everything seen in Re1, Re2 is a quintessential sequel. Better flow, enemy variety and design, Re2 still manages to hold its own with its Remake and modern entries.

The series beginnings has a lot to enjoy. Its fast, the mansion feels great to explore, and it does have a solid sense of horror for the time it came out. Even things that haven't aged well like the backgrounds and the voice acting have a campy charm to them that's hard to not enjoy. But frankly whatever Re1 does well, is done much better by its remake, and almost makes the original game obsolete in comparison.

It's like if you made P5 good. Gameplay is fun if fairly easy, made up for with entertaining characters, an interesting plot, and a great soundtrack. If you're going to play a Persona game, it should be this one.

An unbelievable sense of flow met with an unbeatable control scheme. This game is the best in the series at rewarding exploration not just of the world but the controls. Sequence breaks alongside absurdly tight controls means theres never a dull moment outside of the journey for 100% completion, which unfortunately is too disjointed from the rest of the experience.

Truly a masterpiece in game design. Its sense of flow and attention to detail is incredible, and for a GameCube title it has aged phenomenally. With the exception of the Chozo Artifact hunt in the endgame, there is almost nothing that this game does that is abrasive enough to lower its score for me. Its pacing, art style, controls and overall gameplay are extraordinary.

Persona 5 Royal is perhaps the most frustrating rpg to ever exist. With a story that is mediocre at best, and outright hypocritical at worst, character writing that never goes beyond frustrating/obnoxious, and gameplay that assumes its players aren't smart enough to handle basic puzzle solving and challenging fights, this was a game that felt like it dragged on after only a couple of hours. Never was my 90 hours of gametime rewarding nor entertaining. An incredible presentation with a truly outstanding soundtrack, this game was the epitome of style over substance and not one I'd ever play again.
