As a drooling fan of the original, Overture still managed to surprise me in how good it truly was. The new bosses are staggeringly good, the new weapons are unbelievably fun and the story added didn't feel like tacked on ****. Instead it blew me away.

It's simply the best soulslike. Plays like Bloodborne but tighter and more refined. No game has created a parry mechanic as focused as Lies of P, most games it can feel either oddly timed like in the souls series or perhaps too lenient as found in Sekiro and whilst I love these games, Lies of P simply does it better. It's perfect.

For any old fans of the series, this is a disgrace. Metroid Prime 3 started to drift away from the core principles that make Metroid, Metroid and we had the looming concern that Retro would lean further into those elements in Beyond rather than bolster the original outlines that made the series great to begin with. That fear not only came to pass but was succeeded in one of the most disjointed and misguided attempts at a game that I've ever seen. This isn't even a Metroidvania game. "Oh, but the graphics are good!" Aren't you tired of this same **** review from the sea of bots and tourists in gaming? Do not buy this game, do not support this crap. Shame on you Retro. Shame on you. I can only hope that Nintendo takes the Metroid IP away from this Godforsaken company and hands it to a contractor that will do it justice in future. Dread was fantastic, this was Beyond terrible. If Nintendo still have some sort of legal bond with Retro, offer them something like "Quirky Memelord Sudoku" for a handheld instead, something to fit their current MO because whatever brains created Metroid Prime 1 & 2 are no longer present at Retro Studios.
