One of the funniest movie's i've seen in a long time. One Battle Gets all the awards hype, but this movie about these insane crazy political times really did it for me.
People are saying "best picture winner" but i see it more as a nominee. 95 metascore is just insane, and it doesn't quite live up to that hype. Very good movie with political stereotypes on both sides dialed up to 11. That's actually the best part, as Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor are electric as the nightmare fuel for whichever political party you dislike. The best 20-30 minutes of the movie live up to the 95 rating, but there are a few huge gaps in logic, and i'm not sure it needed to be 3 hours. It's a PTA movie, which means it's weird, and it's very good. Oscar noms all around.
7 because they're my favorite band of all time. But part of me wants to give it a 5 for being so basic and offering absolutely nothing new for big fans.
I think it's amazing. Just a LIIIIITTLE bit short of being a masterpiece. It TRIES to be a masterpiece, it WANTS to be, and it just falls short IMO. But yeah, i absolutely adore it.
It's a very good, very well made movie. In general the younger you are, and the more explosions you expect, the less you'll enjoy it. Spy whodunit featuring a sexy 50ish year old couple. (Fassbender and Blanchet are still very attractive, don't scoff)
Good movie. Unique. Well acted. With all that said it didn't deserve best picture. And i thought Demi should've won best actress. Nothing against Mikey Madison. I do find it disheartening that they spent so much on the awards campaign.
I could justify giving this an even higher score, but it tries a little too hard to be 12 Angry Men at times. Very good movie, and unfortunately, an all too accurate portrait of american justice.
Demi is top notch, and the movie has it's moments.... but BEST PICTURE NOM??? Wow. Maybe the most overrated movie of the year. Gross, and over the top.
I can't imagine anyone that #1 likes the first film, and #2 has a brain in their head, could enjoy this movie. It's an idiotic hacky (at least compared to the first film) mess, with unending historical inaccuracies. Totally illogical and ridiculous. Mescal does a mediocre Russell Crowe impression, and that's the most positive thing i have to say about the movie.
Prime Bronson. I can't believe the film seemingly has a middling reputation. Solid movie with a great ending. Plus... Jan Michael Vincent. Only 1 of him though.
Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon were good, but depressing. Poor Things was... disappointing. Dune 2 was also style over substance IMO. FINALLY. FINALLY a movie with a brain. AND a heart. My favorite movie of 2023. Said so many things that needed to be said. Bravo. Jeffery Wright is brilliant.
Wow. Wowowowow. Starts off pretty great, but then it devolves into yet ANOTHER tale of evil white men ruining the lives of all the other majestic human beings of earth. As if this type of stereotyping isn't hurtful, and is ok (even justified) if it's only white men being torn to shreds. I expected so much from this film. Emma Stone is top notch, but otherwise.... Sigh.
Wow. So, i expected it to be SO bad. It has the WORST villain in marvel history, and a total cringe musical scene, but aside from that?? Really not bad!!! Kamala Khan, and her mother, are pretty funny. Action and plot were fine. Shameless tie in at the end?? OK i'll take it. Probably gets a bonus point for simply not being the worst Marvel movie of all time. That is probably Quantumania.
I expected this movie to be a 10/10. That's the problem. It looks amazing, and has great moments, but i found myself questioning so many decisions. It kinda feels like it was written by a different group of people. Characters or groups of characters make illogical choices over and over. And/or the world has changed in odd ways. Remember the systematic annihilation of the Atreides with high tech military power? Well now we're fighting with knifes. Remember the power of the Sardukar? Well, now.... they definitely exist. And Austin Butler's character is supposed to be some ultimate badass, yet the combat scene was puzzling. Oh well. Pretty good, just not amazing.
It had me for JUUUUST A MINUTE after The Flash meets the younger Flash. Thought it was legitimately funny. For a minute. Liked the very last unexpected reveal. I respect Michael Shannon and Michael Douglas very, very much as actors. But yeah, it was a ridiculous over the top mess otherwise. Just not good.
Wow. Well here's the positive- it's a Wes Anderson movie. So if you love Wes Anderson films, go ahead and give it a whirl. Amazing cast too. Like, all-time amazing. Now here's the bad- like....... not much really happens. It kind of comes and goes and it's over. Cute enough i suppose. Aggressively mediocre.
Great movie, very funny, looks beautiful. Spider-punk is the best. But it loses a point for taking diversity casting to another level. Equality is amazing, but having movies with as few white men as possible is silly.
As an actual lifelong boxing fan, i think this movie is absolutely terrible. Jake got jacked, good for him. that's what it has going for it. It's a movie fan's idea of what boxing is or could be, which is completely ridiculous if you know the sport. Full of emotion, in the worst way. Not a realistic portrayal of boxing, or of human beings in general.
If you go into it thinking of Chang as the protagonist, not Gosling's Julian, you'll enjoy it and understand it more. Takes multiple viewings to understand. One of "Good" Refn's masterworks along with Drive, Bronson, and Too Old to Die Young.
This movie is/was a plague on humanity. This movie was a crime against the people of earth. It was theft against anyone who paid any ammount of money to watch it. I'll never forgive Sandler for this abomination. If you like it, you should probably go to the doctor and have them x-ray your head to make sure you have a brain.
This movie is/was a plague on humanity. This movie was a crime against the people of earth. It was theft against anyone who paid any ammount of money to watch it. The sequel was even worse. I'll never forgive Sandler for this abomination. If you like it, you should probably go to the doctor and have them x-ray your head to make sure you have a brain.
I expected to be disappointed by this film. Oh how wrong i was. Masterpiece? It just might be. All imma say is find it, and watch it. So so much is done the right way. No gripes either.
Do you want mindless action and CGI??? If so, you'll probably love Black Adam! There are a couple jokes, and a couple moments that land, but as an actual movie this is pretty terrible. They basically take a few unused DC characters, change their story and/or mix them with a MCU character (Dr. Strange and Black Panther) add a laughable villain, and then hope The Rock will make them a billion dollars on his own. He didn't. To top it off, the mid credit scene might be the best part of the movie, and now it's seemingly meaningless.
Not BAD.... It's just boring. Christian Bale tries his hardest, and as usual is the best actor in the movie. Great cast, mediocre everything else. I like John David Washington, and he has potential, but he sleepwalks through this movie.
Different. It changes genre about 5 times from drama to thriller to comedy to horror back to comedy again. Intentional comedy? That's up for debate. Well made movie with great performances. My 1 real gripe is that just when i was losing myself in this strange movie the social commentary started coming from left and right. Took me out of it.
This movie is an absurdist MASTERPIECE. They promoted this movie with the worst parts in the trailer, and we all know critics always cringe at movies like this, but it's one of the best ridiculous comedies of all time. It's top 2 along with MacGruber for me.
