The Darkness II9

Beautiful graphics, good story and voice acting, interesting characters, fast paced and funny for all its length. Can be kind of short if you just rush through the stages and don't take your time exploring or talking with the other characters, which you should, 'cause it yields to some real gems.

A game with some very interesting and original mechanics. Nice graphics and music, it's about 9-10 hours long for 80+ levels, but is never too frustrating or repetitive, I really enjoyed it.

A Walk in the Dark7

Nice game overall, it doesn't have the same perfectly responsive controls as Super Meat Boy, but they're not all that required, except for a couple of later stages or some challenges. Graphics are good, music too, 100 short stages that takes like 3-4 hours to complete, 10 challenges that are quite challenging indeed... some things could've been done better, but in the end it's not too frustrating and I liked it for all its length. And the main character is a cat.

Let me sum up this game: You walk around in a wooden cabin, examining stuff. Reading letters. Opening drawers. Not solving any puzzles. Hearing the comments of the main characters with a good voice acting. Unfolding the story, which gets creepier and creepier. I bet this sounds familiar to some of you... Anyway, graphics are very good, length is about 45min/1 hour if you listen to everything, but never gets boring and it's pretty interesting how the mood (and thus the comments of the character and the graphical appearance of the cabin) changes during the course of the game and gets, like I said above, more and more creepier and darker. But the best thing about this is, you haven't paid 20$ for it. Or anything, since it's FREE.

Beautiful, fun to play, with an unique style and a mature plot despite the "cartoon" characters. Probably one of the best Indie games of the year and a true example of how a metroidvania should be done.

A true masterpiece of perfect level design and clever puzzles with a progressive and fair difficulty. Everyone who loves puzzle games should get it, it's well worth the Steam full price!

One of the best games I've played this year, and the proof that HD graphics isn't needed to make a good and fascinating game. Puzzles are clever and perfectly balances so you always have the right clues to solve them without reading the in-game hints (don't do that!), and the satisfaction of solving them on your own is really great. The cubic and creepy world is big and fascinating and it makes you feel like you could go anywhere, thing that you'll probably do just for fun and to watch it from another perspective. The music adds a lot to the atmosphere and is perfectly fitting as well, and there's also some replayability, there are hidden puzzles and runes carved in the most unexpected places, and a hidden ending.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel7
Dec 25, 2013
I don't get all the hate and bad reputation this poor game has earned. Sure, it isn't a Call of Juarez like the two before, or.. a Call of Juarez at all, as the only things in common are a guy called McCall, a trip to Juarez in a couple of stages, and the bullet-time which isn't as good as in the previous titles. It wasn't ported perfectly on PC, that's true. You almost can't set up the graphics at all, there's a motion blur and a depth blur that can be annoying, but you'll get used to them pretty soon. But for the rest? It's a simple action fps like tons of others, with badass characters "maxpayneing" their way against an army of bad dudes, a lot of gunfightings, explosions, car pursuits, a story that's maybe a bit confusing but overall good, great voice acting, the same easy controls as every fps... It may not be the most original fps of all times, it's very linear and doesn't allow you to explore anything, but.. who cares? It's fast paced, funny and entertaining for all its length, and never bored me. Give it a chance.

Seeing this outranked by things like "Gone Home" just doesn't make me want to live on this planet anymore. This masterpiece is the greatest video game love story ever told, and you will cry. End of story.

Story is not that bad and the (only) voice is good, but it's hard to even consider this as a "game". You do nothing else apart from picking up letters and books, and hear what happened. No puzzles, an empty house full of useless stuff that you can pick up for no reason. That's it. It lasts 1,5-2 hours max, so no-one should pay it more than $2-3. The only reason this game is getting awarded is because of the "politically correct" theme of the story (that I won't spoil, but will be clear pretty soon), so the entire game it's just a slimy operation to gain easy consensus, thing proven by the fact that developers themselves tend to delete any thread on the Steam forum and ban users that dares to move even the slightiest complaint about their perfect game and don't treat it like a GOTY.
