Where Shadows Slumber6
Oct 23, 2018
The game is filled with some clever puzzles that are unfortunately marred by a hefty amount of bugs and oddly clunky controls.

One of the best co-op experiences you can have on the WiiU or any system. The game introduces each new mechanic gradually enough that by the end of the game, you will be pulling off some amazing maneuvers. Mix in a great sense of humor and an unexpected level of attention to detail (if you go out in the rain you will hear windshield wipers!) and you have a game that will keep you hooked for hours.

Typoman6
Nov 23, 2015
Typoman has an awesome concept, held back by unresponsive controls and bizarrely precise timing puzzles. This is a game where you must push letters together to form words to interact with the environment. The problem is letters will often get hung up on each other and there is no indication of how far a letter will go when thrown. On numerous occasions, I knew the solution to a puzzle but was unable to proceed because the timed based hazards in an area would kill me before I could push a solution into place. Equally frustrating are pretty regular frame-rate drops and platforming sections that require incredibly precise landings despite the protagonists slow and sluggish jumping controls. There is a good game buried here somewhere, but unfortunately, it feels like it was rushed out of the gate too soon and is in need of some serious polish.

Puppeteer6
Nov 10, 2013
Puppeteer is very much a game that is all presentation with very little substance. The gameplay itself falls far below platformers such as Rayman or even the recent 2D Mario titles. Where the game shines is when it comes to storytelling and presentation. Backgrounds are lovingly animated with elaborate transitions and the story is told in a completely charming manner that will make you want to see what happens next. It’s just a shame that you will have more fun watching the cut scenes than playing the actual game.

A solid entry in the CoH series if not that big of a leap forward. As a beta tester I can attest that many of the new mechanics that the game brings to the table take a while to understand, which is probably why there are so many negative early impressions. While the Germans play similarly to factions in CoH1, the Soviets have a very unique style that takes a while to master. Until you become familiar with their tactics, Germans will seem to have the upper hand. Winter is a unique element that brings a lot of change with it. Do you rush an attack before the storm hits or do you bunker down and wait it out? Better yet, what if you prepare your troops for the storm with transports and fire and attack while your enemy is unaware? Knowing how to make use of storms is often the difference between victory and defeat. Also, for anyone complaining about day one dlc; take a look at what it actually is first. Most of the offered items are cosmetic skins for your vehicles. Throughout the course of the game you unlock skins anyways and most of the paid ones are not going to look that unique. As for the commander DLC, they all appear to variations on commanders already in the game so even if you are missing them, it’s not going to impact the game much.

Shad'O6
Apr 28, 2013
The visuals and general idea behind Shad’O are excellent but the game play is merely average and while is the story is compelling enough to keep you playing it features some of the worst voice acting I’ve ever heard. I have to wonder if the voice actors knew English or were just giving a script and asked to read what was on the page.

BioShock Infinite8
Mar 27, 2013
Bioshock Infinite does a lot of things right. Elizabeth is one of the best characters to ever appear in a game and the world is beautiful; unfortunately many little things keep the game from the level of greatness a lot of people are laying upon it. Pacing is inconsistent, many abilities feel completely similar with only cosmetic differences, and the lack of save anywhere is inexcusable, especially when both previous Bioshock titles allowed it. Lastly, while beautifully realized, the world of Columbia just isn’t as interesting or as “real” as Rapture from the previous Bioshock games. The game is still very good but it’s still disappointing because it could have been truly great.

I was really disappointed by this one. There is a good game in there somewhere but it's buried under awful required touchscreen segments and poor implementation of movement/combat mechanics. Game developers need to learn that just because you have access to a new tech or control scheme doesn't mean you need to use it. The touchscreen drawing mechanics here take what would otherwise be an "OK" (but not great) platformer and turn it into a tedious chore. Gameplay is stalled every time the game forces you to stop and trace the all too detailed outline of an object on the touch screen to progress. This will happen 4-5 times per level and even more if you intend to use any of your special abilities or try to collect everything in the game. The final "world" also pushes the difficulty through the roof; not because of logical level progression but because the combat mechanics will screw you. To kill enemies you need to stomp on them, often 3-4 times but doing so makes you bounce high into the air. The last world has you working down through platforms with enemies on each layer. Every time you bounce on one you go flying back up multiple layers and have to dodge spikes with each bounce adding to the tedium. Making matters even worse the only reliable way to recover health is to draw a magical chest on the touchscreen. You get health from the chest but not very much and in random quantities. In the later sections of the game I spent upwards of 5 minutes after each combat heavy section drawing the chest over and over just to recover enough health to carry on.

Alan Wake9
Mar 24, 2012
Alan Wake surprised me and went way beyond my expectations. What really made the game stand out and kept me playing was the engaging story and fun characters. Not to belittle the gameplay, which is more than sufficient, but this is a game where you continue to play to find out what happens next. My only real complaints are that the camera sticks a little too close to your character and difficulty is inconsistent at times.
