Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds10
Nov 9, 2017
From the cutting edge graphical wonders of actual displacement of snow when Aloy walks/slides/lands in it to the exhilarating and brutally difficult new machine foes I'm not sure what's not to like about the Frozen Wilds. The art direction is fantastic and so atmospheric with the whiteout blizzards and peaceful snowfall giving way to a stage of all natures colors where beautiful lighting effects is the star of the show. From the majestic blue light speckling the Banuk paths and settlements to the wonderful aurora borealis and countless stars in the sky at night, you can't help but be taken in by the mystical feel of it **** to mention a story to match! The quests and characters were so charming and interesting, and diving into the Banuk culture and their Shamanic belief systems surrounding our(the players) and the human tribes most essential asset and source of life: The machines of Horizon. The detail of the world from the lore to the graphics and game mechanics are superb in design as well. In a snow storm it actually becomes almost silent in game(due to the snow absorbing most of the sound just as IRL) even going so far as to add a new running animation for Aloy when traversing (ankle deep or more) snow. A new graphical effect on outfits has also been added, where after a certain amount of time spent in the frigid Cut(a few min) you become dusted with snow/frost from head to toe. New water and snow effects, and a host of new particle effects with snow have also been added all of the above really cement the experience of a true arctic world. Thats to say nothing of the large strides made in game mechanics like adding customizable spears for Aloy with a host of different functions, and entire new Quality of Life skill tree centered around storage and machine mounts, to new special damage coils and protective coils to go with your new outfits the coils can actually be farmed outside the DLC as well! My only complaint is that there wont be more DLCs in the future. This was a perfect send off, although a bit shorter than what I would've have wanted(my appetite for this game is huge), there's still plenty of content to keep you happy for such longer than the mere 15 hours quoted.

No Man's Sky10

The new update is everything I could have asked for in this game. This comeback is better than Destiny, the vindication is deserved. They salvaged the unsalvageable no developer I've ever seen has surprised me more than Sean Murray and HG did with this. Fantastic game, and the updates are far from over. A game that continues to add and build upon a very shallow and expansive foundation, and with every update gets closer to becoming a game every space lover and explorer should own. Never have I felt a game with bigger potential and one that tries so desperately to stray from an on-rails experience in every respect. The universe is there, waiting for you to **** without your own motivations and need to do so, you will feel like No Man's Sky is a peculiar game with only as much substance as you give it. Just like real life, if you have no intention or desire to see the sunrise from the top of a mountain then you can not possible understand what motivates someone to make an early morning hike in pursuit of said view. This game is about the experiences and the journey of being a lonely space explorer discovering new worlds and trying to find their place in an endless universe which may very well be one giant simulation. What then is the motivation to take a step forward, to fly to the next system and plant the next flag on a barren unforgiving landscape, to brave hostile worlds for valuable resources which only add your journey forward........... Only the true explorer among us will know.

The Order: 18868

Too short, too short because I wanted more. The game fails in a few key areas namely length and a missed opportunity for more combat encounters, more missions...However, aside from probably not delivering enough content, what content that is there is imo fantastic. Pretty standard over the shoulder cover shooter, but the weapons are innovative and fun to use, and the time period is very engaging. One of the Order's true strengths is it's ability to suspend disbelief and the Victorian steampunk horror just pulls you right in. Absolutely classic themes well meshed into its dark Victorian setting. The visuals are 10/10, current PS4 titles still have a hard time hitting The Order's level of fidelity, as well as it being an objectively amazing looking game even stacked up to PC **** itself story was gripping and I found myself wishing for a sequel immediately, to find out what happens to Galahad. Ready at Dawn has a unique opportunity if Sony backs a sequel to redeem themselves and tempered through user feedback the same way Titanfall 2 did. However does this market seem like a good place for such a title from Sony's perspective? time will tell.

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters10

The greatest expansion of all time, to go with the greatest game of all time. Miyazaki-san, I don't know how you managed to outdo yourself when you already reached a height of excellence I did not think was possible and then you go and create the best DLC **** you add one of the most significant story revelations ever to one of the most complex and expertly written Lovecraftian horror in a Victorian setting ever. Praise Miyazaki and praise Mother Kos for this give us eyes so that we may see. We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the **** eyes have yet to open, FEAR THE OLD BLOOD

The Last of Us Remastered10

Simply one of the greatest games ever made. Amazing over the shoulder shooting/stealth combat that feels honed and perfected. Probably the best and most exhilarating and emotionally charged stories of any game I've ever played. Beautiful graphics and performance in Remastered, ND outdid themselves with this title truly a masterpiece.

The only worthwhile souls-like to ever come out aside from Nioh. Awesome sound and boss design, very cool music and atmosphere and a intense and satisfying combat that gave me hope of all 2D side scrollers in the future. This game even had platforming that I ACTUALLY **** I absolutely hate platformers especially 2D ones. Amazing game from a great dev, and a true triumph of the Souls-like genre.

Absolutely and without a doubt the greatest game of all time. In my own opinion of course. The combat is the culmination of years of perfecting and tempering already one of the most well designed and truly challenging 3rd person 3D combat systems every created...where player freedom, control and interaction with the player character is second to none. The quickstep and speedier gameplay has exalted the souls combat formula to a Godlike level of enjoyment in even the smallest **** true versatility, collage of attacks and combinations of just a single trick weapon will dazzle you with each and every satisfying, blood soaked slice into the flesh of your beastly grotesque enemies...Coupled with a world building skill that stacks up and towers over even some of the best games and an unrivaled and majestic attention to detail and atmosphere that has created one of the most intriguing, horrifying and exhilarating Victorian settings of all **** world, combat, atmosphere, music and sound design, story are all 10/10.... A difficulty that is completely and totally unforgiving and harkens back to an age when games were about overcoming a challenge rather than giving you a seemingly empowering cushy avatar to carry you through an big epic story..... and in that world the Souls games and especially Bloodborne are a shining star casting light upon a new era that enriches your soul with satisfaction upon REAL accomplishment rather than simply coddling your ego as you're spoon fed. But even that virtually pales in comparison to the absolute triumph of creating and delivering one of the best Lovecraftian pieces of art Ive ever had the pleasure of experiencing. For that alone the game is 10/10, truly nailing Lovecraft is quite possibly one of the hardest things to do in writing, because only a handful of people in the world have the skill needed to create the atmosphere and macabre fear of the unknown LET ALONE translate into visual media in video game no **** to mention the fact its a souls-like made by one of the best visionaries in his field Miyazaki-san is takes it to a level I had not thought possible in a video game because the souls formula is the best gameplay Ive encountered in my years since playing Legend of Zelda as a child. This game dethroned Bioshock as my favorite game of all time, and it is truly the best game I've ever played. Thank Mother Kos for Miyazaki and FromSoftware.

Nioh9
Mar 14, 2017
Absolutely refreshing, engagingly satisfying and challenging combat that keeps you clamoring for more the more hours you play and the more you hone your skills. The setting is 10/10 with a very charming, enchanting and sometimes very dark mix of Japan's folklore and history to create a believable and memorable romp through feudal Japan with nothing but your blade and your swordman's spirit to guide **** dangerous and visceral world of Nioh is one of technical combat with Japan's best weapons, nightmares and fantasies all rolled into a supremely satisfying package. It's rarity/RNG based gear system and Japanese setting make for a refreshingly new take on the souls-like formula that will leave you wanting more. Although it's repeated enemy designs and a few certain peculiar mechanics at times do take some of the shine off of an otherwise very well thought out and executed title, its no so much that it comes close to being a deal breaker on purchasing this game........especially if you're a fan of the Soulsbonre, or Ninja Gaiden series which would make this a must buy no questions asked.

Horizon Zero Dawn10

Fantastic story that will blow you away, graphics that raise the bar for all future console games this gen, and some seriously satisfying and innovative combat...from the complex and meaty variety of machines, weapons/status effects and the ability finish a fight in whatever way you can imagine, down to the smallest detail like the different sounds it makes when hitting a machine's weak spot with an arrow.. The environment and world and its creatures feel vibrant and alive, and many times you just have to take a break from the action to just soak in the scenery, the sounds of the wind blowing through the trees, the sound birds chirping and water rushing in a nearby **** serve to suspend all disbelief that your not navigating Aloy through a real living world. The lighting in the decima engine is one of the best and most atmospheric renditions Ive ever seen in a video game. practically every angle at all times of day produce a mosaic of colors as the light plays on the environment as the day night cycle runs its course, and just like the Hellghast eyes in the Killzone franchise for which Guerrilla is known, the lit up eyes of the machines at night is quite possibly one of the coolest visuals in a game in along time. Absolutely refreshing take on the open world premise, even using mechanics that have become almost standard from multiple other franchises but does them so well and integrates them well enough into the world that it feels like your doing them for the first time.....because its the first time they feel they were actually done right, with substance and meaning. Never did I feel like I was on yet another bland fetch quest, or collectible hunt but rather yet another excuse to explore the nooks and crannies of the massive world Guerrilla has created. Even simple acts such as gathering materials as you move through the world did not feel like a prison of endless inventory management and on rails material farming but rather another task required of someone who lives in a world like Aloy's. Hunting animals for meat to make health potions, stocking up on herbs, and resources felt like a privilege and an actual supplement to my enjoyment rather than another endless task in a world of obligations. The size of the world massive as it is, also never felt overwhelming as many open world RPGs have in the past but rather like a perfectly sized, consistently juicy and tender cut of steak with minimal fat....that was fully digestible at my own pace, with a side helping of potatoes and greens for anyone who wasn't filled by the meat itself. Overall it feels like the culmination of a team who have spent years polishing their technique at one world story games, and this IP will go down as a titan of PS exclusives rivaling even ND's Uncharted and Last of Us. I haven't been this impressed, and satisfied with a game purchase in years.
