Pacify9

Went into this with the initial impression of being a standard horror game. but the developer has managed to create a very simple and effective mechanic which increases the intensity and pace of the horror to the point where you just want to hide in a corner. I recommend playing with a group of friends so you can use the voice chat and tell them to stop being scaredy cats and get out there! Great horror game for an absolute bargain!

Relaxing, and enjoyable. The developers genuinely love this game and after 40 hours I'm still finding new things

FIFA 154

The problem with Fifa every year is that it wants to cater for the people who believe football is all about skill moves, high speed arcadey play and stupid coloured accessories. While the animations and physics have improved drastically this year as every year EA can't shake off the desire to simplify and dumb down the game to the extent that speed passing and silly tricks are promoted over teamwork and tactics. Pro clubs is especially rife with the 'win at all costs' mobs who seek to use exploits, speed passing and cheap gameplay tricks to win instead of working to a game plan. Unfortunately Pro Evolution Soccer, which has historically been the football game for the genuine football fan is still lagging behind. Hopefully one day it'll catch up, but for now we can just wish for the day when beauty will return to the beautiful game.

If you don't feel shivers, anxiety and stress while playing this you have something wrong with you.. Beautifully paced, great scares and fantastic voice acting. Far superior to the other "big budget" horror games out there.

Piss poor attempt at horror, cliched, over produced, too much unskippable dialog and forced pacing. Buy Outlast instead if you want a proper horror game.

Having played numerous cricket games over the years it's great to see a game written by people who understand the game, and also have focused on making sure you are in control of every aspect of the game. While EA like to rig their games with pseudo control and scripting I'm impressed that the developers can proudly show close up reviews of bowling and batting to give you close eyes on decisions which are invariably correct WELL DONE Big Ant - please keep it coming!

FIFA 144

It's unfortunate that there are so few football games available these days. The potential for someone to create a genuine tactical simulation has never been more possible but it seems both EA and Konami have lost their way when trying to emulate the game. Fifa 14, exactly the same as its predecessors has created an immensely powerful and perfect football game engine but then dumbed it down to appeal to the teen 'football hero'. As a result, and despite their desire to slow the game down and introduce more of a tactical and team play element, the same failings continue to appear in the game. The 'quick win' elements of using assists to place a pass or chip inch perfect to a player would be less insufferable if the defensive AI intelligence wasn't one brain cell away from a Geordie girl. Basic positioning, tracking, marking - things that a footballer learns in school seem to be lost and this is known and exploited by players who want to 'win at all costs' rather than play attractive football. I can only hope that Konami recover their position as they appear to be the only hope for having someone create a game that appeals to real footballers and not simply kids who want to exploit a game engine to give them some bizarre sense of achievement when they chip in their 100th goal using exactly the same method they have for every other one.

Portal 210

On so many occasions a a sequel to a hugely popular game disappoints. Portal 2 does not disappoint. Throughout the game I was surprised by many new directions and story developments. Having read numerous negative reviews damning the 'same old levels' as the original game it becomes obvious that the reviewers have not played too far into the game before casting judgement. It should be made clear that the first few levels of Portal 2 ARE intended to be very similar to the first. Bear in mind there will be a raft of new gamers, especially on console, who have never used the portal gun before and so need to become accustomed to it. The levels did start to become very slightly 'samey' but it was precisely when I started feeling that the story lurched into another direction. Regarding the co-op mode, this is best played after single player It's not critical, but it doesn't give an extra dimension to the mode which works well. Design - The level design in this game is astonishing. I'm not going to provide any information on why but there is HUGE variation, and detail in all areas of the game and some are absolutely breathtaking Sound - there are thousands of lines of dialog within the game, meshed with environment effects which range from fantastic mechanical clanks and clunks to downright creepy ambiance. Graphics - It's the Source Engine. If you've played any recent Source games you'll know what it's capable of , it looks stunning and handles all the environments thrown at it with ease. Gameplay - Do not listen to people who say this game takes 3-4 hours to complete. If you let yourself enjoy the dialog and play the game as an average gamer it'll last a good 6-7 at least., and that's without attempting to find the numerous secrets areas. For replay value there's always the challenge of achievements and even with the original Portal's short length I found myself replaying it again just because it's FUN! All in all, I was absolutely impressed with Portal 2. While playing online co-op last night until the early hours my playing partner indicated that they had not played a game where they had the 'just one more level' for a long time. That in itself is a worthy testimonial!

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Pack7
Jan 7, 2011
It's a fun expansion pack but I felt that it detracted from the story of the main game a little too much for me. It simply doesn't mesh into the main RDR storyline history in the slightest and I think if they had changed the protagonist to someone else, or allowed playing from a choice of sub characters from the main story, it would have worked better for me. I guess with the success of RDR breathing life and emotion into the main story characters I just felt a little let down when this plot was completely out of context! Other than that - it has all the greatness of the main game... just... I dunno... it's not Red Dead Redemption any more!

Beautiful, stylish and engrossing. If you ever had the yearning to be a cowboy in the old west then Rockstar have got all the bases covered. From duels in the streets to poker in a bar in Mexico to watching the sun set ove rthe mountains there is every activity you could ever want to enjoy in the game. Story wise the tale of John Marston is engrossing and you feel deeply connected to the character throughout the game. This is one of Rockstar's best moments and one which has gameplay for many months to come.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent9
Jan 7, 2011
Horror games are plentiful on the PC but Amnesia: Dark Descent is the first horror game that's left my pulsed racing, and at times made me feel reluctant to continue for all the right reasons. The pacing is dead on, with breaks in the atmosphere enabling you to gather yourself before you plunge (unwillingly in more than one instance!) into the next area of dark foreboding. This is a genre defining game and any horror enthusiast should buy it, don some decent headphones, turn out the lights and enjoy the scares!

Cricket Revolution9
Jan 7, 2011
Cricket Revolution is a game made for, and by cricket enthusiasts. It's not the prettiest game, but it is a rare beast in the sports game industry that offers pure gameplay. There are no tricks, balancing, special moves, animations or gimmicks, all ommissions of which make it the best simulation to date. Don't be put off by the seemingly complex controls - after a few minutes of gameplay you realise all the combinations make sense and are logically and intuitively laid out. Hopefully the next release will offer improved graphics and replays for those contentious mulitplayer moments!
