Forza Motorsport 39

One of the best racing games available, might not look as good as Gran Turismo 5 but the single player mode in Forza 3 is easy to recommend over GT5's single player offering.

Major League Baseball 2K118

Definitely a big improvement over MLB 2K10- which was a huge improvement over the mistake that was MLB 2K9, so it's safe to say that the 2K series of baseball is finally coming into it's own. Right off the bat "no pun intended" you will see a big step up in the visual department from last years outing, player models look much better as well as the smoothed out textures in the stadiums and crowds. Commentary is once again the best in current sports titles with Kruk leading the way with endless baseball stats, My Player mode has seen a nice boost in several departments- as well as some much needed fine tuning on the pitching-batting-and fielding controls/interfaces. It's not yet up to the standards of Sony's MLB The Show series but 2K11 is definitely a solid game of baseball.

MLB 11: The Show10
Mar 9, 2011
Every year I purchase both MLB: the show and MLB 2k series baseball games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively, reason being i like being able to play baseball in the man cave "PS3" and also in the bedroom "Xbox" before i hit the sack. Needless to say I am familiar with the game of baseball as well as it's video game counterpart- which brings me to why i felt the reason to post a review on this game... IGN giving this game an 8 out of 10... seems suspect when everyone else scores it above a 90% doesn't it? Seeing as IGN gave MLB 10 The Show a score of 9.0* stating the need for analog stick controls as a big vice for the 2010 version, and as how the big addition to MLB 11 The show is finally analog pitching-hitting-and fielding controls, It's pretty clear IGN low balled the Show. IGN would have an argument for giving it a lower score than last year if Sony would have just added analog controls and left the rest alone waiting for next year to improve, but this is not the case. Right from the get go you can see the Menu overlays have been greatly improved as well as textures and player models- not to mention the lighting is literally night and day from last years lighting engine. And those are just the visual enhancements, commentary has gotten a much needed color boost by replacing Rex Hudler with Eric Karros, the "Road to the Show" mode has seen a huge change with the replacement of checklist style goals to an overall performance review style system, and not to mention the inclusion of both local and online Co-op play as well as numerous other upgrades and gameplay improvements- Dynamic Weather anyone? But all in all this years version of The Show is easily the best video game baseball game made on next gen hardware, IGN... Normally I'm a fan of your work, but this time- You struck out on 3 pitches. LET'S PLAY BALL!!

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam10
Dec 29, 2010
It's like upgrading your Battlefield Bad Company 2 up to Battlefield Bad Company 2.5, this is more than just a simple dlc map pack like you get with blops- This is a whole new multiplayer expansion with new maps, weapons, vehicles, music, in game movies, and most importantly a whole new strategy on how to play the game. The best way to describe the Vietnam expansion is by saying it's like combining Bad Company 2 with the Battlefield 1943 released in 09. Unlike Bad Company 2's huge map-scope based battles- Vietnam throws you in the $h!t up close with everyone else, it's close quarter skirmishes that get ugly quick. This is not to say the new maps are small because they are by no means smaller than the original Bad Company 2 maps, it's just how EA set up the landwork so that battles come to bottlenecks and brush for a team to advance. Mix in all the new extras including the game changing flamethrower, and you've got the best online shooter dlc coupled with the best online shooter out. A must buy.

EA Sports Active 29
Dec 8, 2010
Coming from someone who has been working out for 15 years, with real weights in a real gym, I can def recommend EA Sports Active 2 to anyone who wants to improve their fitness level. I bought this for my my fiance' and myself to have some fun with working out when neither of us felt like actually doing cardio, and I got a lot more than I expected in a good way. Active 2 comes with a resistance band which is nice but doesn't offer much in the way of resistance for men, although for females and children it's great- but most guys are probably going to want something with a little more weight to it. Luckily EA implemented the feature allowing you to use your own dumbells by telling the game what weight dumbells you are going to use- the game then changes the exercises by using dumbells instead of the resistance band, well done EA. The body tracking on the PS3 version is very impressive, a few times it mistaked me wiping sweat off my head as whatever exercise i was doing- but this was a rare occurrence. As far as the actual workouts go i'm 4 weeks in and have been very impressed with the way it scales the intensity and difficulty as you progress through your 3 or 9 week program. It keeps you moving constantly and you will definitely walk away with the feeling of getting a quality cardio/toning workout. I don't want to mislead anyone and have you thinking this program is going to make you jacked because it's not, its meant for weight loss, muscle toning, and overall physical performance improvement.

Gran Turismo 510
Nov 24, 2010
It's easy to see that Gran Turismo 5 was over the head most of the people that "officially" reviewed it. Seems that GT5's unprecedented realism didn't hit stride with people who bank on guns- cop chases- sex- or the name forza to recommend a game for the American crowd. Gran Turismo 5 is game aimed at car and race enthusiasts, those have always been the fans of the series- and yet it seems the only thing that is constant in every review (outside of it having outstanding graphics) it that they all say is "Fans of the series will not be disappointed.".... No ****.... Well i'll go ahead and say it, THATS BECAUSE THAT'S WHO THE GAME WAS MADE FOR- car and race nuts that don't require the usual American treatment of sex and violence to be entertained. Don't review a game that you don't fall into the target market of and then turn around and give it average scores because it was to complex and realistic for your taste. This isn't the Xbox 360 crowd that's full of 10-18 year olds wanting to blow something up, it's a Sony crowd that banks on the no frills realism of GT5.

The Fight: Lights Out8
Nov 18, 2010
Well like most other people who bought this title I was more than excited when it was announced. A street fighting game using a move controller in each hand with 1:1 tracking? I was sold... UNTIL.. the reviews started to come out- almost all of them saying it was a shallow "workout" game with broken controls and poor presentation, not to mention many of them saying that the in game punches looked nothing like the force you were actually using with the move controller in hand, I was all frowns not looking forward to working up a small sweat cursing at my tv the whole time due to broken controls. Luckily I still decided to give it a shot just to see for myself.. Three and a half hours later i stood in front of my tv out of breath with my shirt stuck to my back from sweat, smiling because i just used the new dirty move i learned 10 minutes prior to knock some poor fool out who had been giving me problems the past hour. The single player mode is nothing ground breaking but it's meaty, ton's of fights to be had and a deep character development system that you will be working on in the in game gym for quite some time. Once you learn how the move controllers work with the game and build your character up a bit, the fighting feels spot on with punches landing in vicious thuds. I walked away from this realizing that almost all of the critics must have popped the game in- tried a few training exercises in the gym and went to the fighting with a slow, weak character that plays like his stats show. They took this and turned it around and said that the whole game plays this way just because they were to lazy to build the in game fighter up and enjoy the rewards. The game provides a workout, no question. Training in the gym is going to work up a sweat on anyone, I'm 25 and lift/run 4-5 times a week and this game had me out of breath a few times, not to mention is has an in game calorie counter to see how much you've burned. Also the move sets and character creation are deep enough with only a few weaknesses. The move controllers mimic your every motion in the game almost spot on which makes it all the more satisfying when you land a solid knock. I will say that the head tracking system is broken and doesn't work at all, but it can be turned off so it doesn't effect game play. The Fight is a fun game, it's not deep but it does what it says well- providing a fun and accurate fighting game that you will break a sweat playing.
