Wildly entertaining role reversal movie. Every single scene was inventive and perfectly crafted. Signature shots abound with extreme close-ups, gross out sight gags and surprising twists around every corner. One of the most satisfying narrative arcs I've ever had the pleasure of watching. An instant classic and arguably Sam Raimi's best movie ever.

What a trip! Excellent pacing - akin to the very best 1980s action blockbusters and top-notch special effects. Those helicopters look SO real. It felt like a mix between First Blood, the Terminator and Predator. its VERY jingoistic and predictable in places but God bless those American rangers

A film about an art heist feels s though it should be fast paced and exciting, but this film is the opposite. It feels like a slow, depressing slog, set and styled like a 70s naturalistic thriller, like the french connection or serpico. In its defence there were some interesting characterisations and a few good scenes but ultimately the film didn’t gel for me, mostly because the protagonist became more pathetic as the film went on.

Lighthearted action comedy. Perfect pacing and editing. Incentive stunts. Funny wry commentary on the Anglo-American special relationship. Absolute blast. Elba and Cena repeated their comedic chemistry from The Suicide Squad. The ensemble casting ensemble clicks so well.. Loved every moment. Best film of 2025 so far.

Rock solid action popcorn movie. A fresh-feeling synthesis of previous alien classics - evoking the thing, battlefield Los Angeles, live die repeat, alien, and others but new angles and emotional hooks. Really strong - better than he critics say. Fun for all the family although a little scary for under 13s

Of all the recent end of the world movies this rates highly. Maybe not quite as solid as Greenland but emotionally moving in others ways. It dealt with mass cynical reaction - ie people casting aspersions on the science - kinda like Trump conspiracy theories and fake news. This theme resonated, especially the ending, where the main cast simply had dinner which made me cry which made my daughter laugh but this was a solid disaster movie with a nice twist - and Leo had some great scenes of emotion - funny post credit scene too

First-rate revenge movie. Gritty, dark and violent, with a very satisfying narrative arc ~ it’s a man’s movie, like something Eastwood would make in the 70s, not everyone’s cup of tea but much better than I was expecting, and I was expecting a lot from the always improving Guy Richie and the great Jason Statham ~ who has become one of the biggest movie stars in the world right now. Everything about this movie was high brow and stylish ~ it felt like a GTA heist mission written by Paul Shrader and directed by Martin Scorsese. The lighting, camera movements, soundtrack, casting, plot twists, fire fights ~ the whole production values were A1 and the plot felt cohesive and felt all very grown up. Loved it. Bravo to all involved.

I love this film, it’s one of the all-time great 70s movies if you like science fiction and / or conspiracy theory films this is the ultimate. The script is sharp and witty and sparkles 50 years later, cast and characterisations are concise and strong, Every single cast member are brilliant in this movie. Even OJ. I love his ‘birds’ scene. Try and get a good copy and watch this it’s such an interesting film. The cinematography and editing are sublime - this movie has really stood the test of time and still feels fresh and exciting. Ignore all the critics and watch this film. 38? That’s just wrong. Fascinating that this movie seems to have received such poor professional reviews at the time and hasn’t got any user reviews on Metacritic after all these years. Watch and enjoy.

So, I was flicking through the TV the other night, and stumbled across the beginning of the much maligned 2016 Suicide Squad. Given all the negative reviews over the years I nearly switched over but the film held my attention and turned out to be really rather good. It’s edgier than the Marvel universe movies and the characterisations, special effects and plot were engaging from start to finish. Great ensemble cast and definitely above average movie.

Much more enjoyable than the first movie. The action started from the get go with two solid sequences filled with emotion, drama and humour. Would recommend seeing on big screen where possible. The Chilean actor who played the baddie gave an electric performance - and the 'make a wish' concept was clever. In fact whole film felt fresh and original despite it being a superhero sequel. Gal Gadot's message of always being honest and modest was heart-warmingly wholesome and Kristen Wiig was her usual brilliant self too. The movie flags in a few places but overall was very enjoyable. Can't understand why this is so underrated.

“What is this movie about? How is she still alive? She just got shot six times. What just happened? Who is the bad guy? Are they the bad guys? Is this about time travel? Or the reversal of time? Why is he wearing a mask? Is this about COVID? Why is he fighting himself? This movie is even more confusing than Inception. “ These are just some of the actual comments I heard while watching Tenet -Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster - a very clever, confusing and deeply frustrating film - perhaps the perfect movie for the madness and disappointment that is 2020. An expensive, very high concept testament to the clout Nolan currently carries in Hollywood right now since he’s allowed to make high brow blockbusters. Cue British accent “I know, let’s make a $250m movie and run the whole 2 and a half hours in reverse.’ The editor must be like WTF? Nolan is a genius. Too clever me. Maybe I’ll enjoy this more on a second viewing, but is that a sign **** movie? One that leaves the vast majority of the audience confused? Clarity of narration is key to enjoyability. Washington and Branagh’s performances are brilliant but, can we all fast forward to the future please! Roll on 2021 so we can watch the all the proper blockbusters that got deferred. (On the big screen as Nolan rightly says)

After all the cool reviews I was expecting a quirky Brazilian sci-fi/horror or something left-field and a bit different, TBH I wasn't sure what, but in the end the film felt uneven and unsure of itself - critics say it is meant to be a metaphorical critique on socio-economic/political divide but to me the story just came off boring with long quiet stretches followed by spats of ultra violence populated by unlikable characters which didn't have an redeeming qualities or go anywhere interesting and the take away was boring and unsatisfying

Sweet, charming, modest, funny, poignant, intelligent, though provoking - this feels like a Will Ferrell movie but differs in that my wife liked it too!

Ponderous, slow moving sequel lacking the wit of the original. A shame given the caliber of writer and director. Of the five Hannibal films, this one clearly had the biggest budget and most polished production values, but it’s all style over substance. Ridley Scott spends too much time concentrating on the look of a shot and not enough on the actual story. The first two thirds of the film looks like a travelogue with beautiful photography but without any engaging narrative. The story gets going near the end but by then it’s too late and the final ‘scary’ scene with Ray Liotta is just plain ridiculous! During lockdown I rewatched all the movies in the series again and for my money the best is Red Dragon, even better than Lambs.

I’ve never seen the original anime so can’t compare the two, but based on its merits this live action movie is strong - high concept, likeable leads, satisfying narrative, engaging and definitely better than the meta score would suggest. Damn Willem Dafoe does a delicious demon! Great performance.

One of greatest coming of age movies of all time. Obscene, foul-mouthed but very very funny. A sweet film with real heart. It's about friends, family and fitting in. The scenes and emotions reminded me of my own awkward youth and teenage awakening. The movie will probably resonate with every male over 12. Great soundtrack too.

Never seen the original. Was amazed by the Shakespearean story, characterizations, songs and next generation CGI. The craft is nearly at photorealistic level. This is a brilliant movie. Makes me want to watch the cell drawn 90s version.

Underwhelming and bland romantic comedy. The filmmakers obsession - nay, veneration - of obscene wealth and weddings that cost $10million+ was just vulgar. Over-entitled, obnoxious rich kids acting like jerks was commonplace and seemed to be just acceptable. The movie glamorised the unreal, and unattainable world of the richest 1%; with an unhealthy fixation on luxury products, glamorous locations and posh British accents. Having said all that the costumes, sets and production values were high and the actors were all fabulous looking, but it all felt empty and immoral.

While Bateman's screen persona was likeable as usual, the rest of the movie was a disappointing let down. The premise and plot twists were completely unbelievable. The gags and set ups were contrived and unfunny. The rest of the cast were flat and forgettable. Strange this movie scores so highly

Way more inventive than the last three Star Wars movies. Lots of original ideas. Visually stunning. Creature creation and special effects some of the best ever . Luc Besson is a visionary scifi and action director par excellence. Bravo. The two leads were great. Cara Develigne surprisingly good actress. And super sexy! Would love to see a sequel. Shame it didn’t do the numbers. Shouldn’t have gone up against Dunkirk! Suspect this film will become more appreciated over time and become a cult classic

I am beginning to lose faith in the judgement of professional critics. This movie was excellent. It deftly tackled the difficulties of fighting a guerrilla war with skill and humour. Pitt’s likeable over the top performance was the heart and soul of the movie. Kingsley and Swinton had small but satisfying roles.

High concept fantasy mashup of swords and sorcery and buddy cop genre. Surprisingly good overall. Inventive, witty dialogue with strong characterizations and clear narrative. Excellent action. Critics rate this 29 and Last Jedi 85? The world is out of balance. This is a much more enjoyable and far more original. Ignore the professional critics and read the user reviews.

Best one yet. With noticeably higher production values, better action and 5 of the biggest action stars in motion picture history mixing it up. Sly, Arnie, Mel, Ford and The Stath. Great to see Snipes, Banderas, and other big name cameos

Starts off promisingly enough in a Game-of-Thronesy/Greek godsy kind of way but soon degenerates into yet another CGI mess with under-developed, unengaging characters and a muddled narrative. The fight scenes with multiple slow-mo backflips were monotonous and there is some dialogue about sleeping with men which may not be suitable for pre-pubescents.

Unwarranted reference to Harold Loyd in the promo poster, this is lazy lazy follow up to the very good original. This is just a boring generic remake. How many times does Keanu do the same moves - rolls, corner grabs, neck jumps etc - so so so boring way before the end. Lame lame lam this movie ****

Below-par B-movie with cruel, unsympathetic characters, vicious, depraved, nihilistic violence, no humour, no motivation or emotional narrative arc. The only good part is the pre-credits shoot out sequence but the rest of the movie is an unsatisfying mess with no redeeming qualities and the ending sequence, oh brother, don't bother.

Like a modern day Roald Doahl, Martin McDonagh celebrates the darker side of human nature. 7 psychs is adazzlingly funny and poignant movie, full of gallows humour with numerous deft diversions and several wonderful vignettes- the parallel writers block story is sublime. I enjoyed this even better than In Bruges - a classic black comedy which rewards repeat viewing. McDonagh's dialogue as usual is snappy and multilayered. The credits twist is one of the most satisfying ever. Do yourself a favour and check out all his movies and plays.

An exhilarating and visually impressive film. Many of the shots are composed specifically for 3D so try to see this in IMAX 3D if possible. The story is basic and narrative nice and easy to follow - this is a comic-book movie after after all. but where the film excels is the art direction, costumes, production, sound design, and most of all the incredible action sequences - some of the best ever created. Perfectly-edited chase and fight scenes. Extraordinary action. Very brutal in places, but the strong female characters help to add some balance. Charlize Theron is the real star of this film and still stunningly beautiful despite the one arm!

This one trick pony of a movie might appeal to self-referential AKtors or theatre luvvies but most normal people will find this a bit of a chore. It feels like a play (no cuts, see?) and had a few fleeting moments of interest but why they hell couldn't they hire a proper screen writer and editor?

A divisive film. Love it or hate it. It's dream-like noir cinematography is undeniably masterly. Reminded me of the best movie moments from Martin Scorcese, David Lynch, Jonathan Glazer or Sergio Leone. What was most brilliant was it's narrative style - perfectly unfolding, revealing, enthralling, emotionally satisfying right until the last frame. Yes it is violent, but the violence always served the story. The main themes of ethics and retribution felt so right. Gosling played the perfect anti-hero and his nemesis Pansringham is one of the most compellingly bad-ass cops in movie history - horrific and honourable in equal measures. A masterpiece

The low meta score is probably due to the amount of swearing and gross out gags, but most married, middle-aged men with young children may well find this movie hysterically funny.

Absolutely atrocious. No thought of effort went into this. Famous potheads ad-libbing does not make an interesting film. Very lazy. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.

Okay so the trailer for this movie was great - it zinged along and promised a fast-paced film but the reality is that the feature itself is surprisingly slow by comparison. The marketing men lied to us! I was expecting a rollicking farce but this was more drawn out. It wasn't bad per se, just not very good. Nothing new. Seen it all before. I much preferred Life Aquatic and Moonrise Kingdom in terms of originality. And like that last film, Bill Murray is again wasted in this.

It's great to see Northern Irish actor Liam Neeson successfully opening an action film and Non-Stop starts out promisingly enough, however the plot soon loses rhyme and reason and I found myself losing interest and sympathy for any of the characters. The last 30 minutes were so daft it was difficult to watch. However, most people love it so what do I know?

The Lego Movie just didn't click. The first issue was the stop-motion animation. The entire movie is jerky as 1963's Jason and the Argonauts. As if it was made by a first year animation student. Coupled with 3-D - it was a headache inducing experience. I couldn't believe how amateurish it looked. Secondly, the humour was incredibly puerile. Now, i love silly humour too but each joke was weaker than the last. The plot twist at the end was schmaltzy and annoying. Even my 3 kids didn't seem to like it much. We're obviously in the minority as everybody seems to love this film but we thought it was lame.

I really wanted to like this film but ultimately found it a bit disappointing. The characterisations were simplistic, the race action scenes were boring close focus quick cut blurs certainly not 'one of the greatest movies about motor racing'. Watchable, but a documentary is more interesting than this superficial biopic.

Almost didn't watch this movie due to the horrible metascores but they are really unrepresentative. This tightly paced film was reminiscent of mr and mrs smith. It's got same levels of high octane action and amusing scenes. Aston is surprisingly good and Katherine is as lovely as ever. The South of France scenes are beautifully shot, although the roads are never that quiet. This was a fun action comedy nothing amazing, but decent enough, and certainly better than the above metascores imply.

3.4? Come on, the Metascore for this film really is unfairly low. Thankfully the user ratings are slightly higher but for me, this was a highly effective, down-right scary alien invasion movie centered around the occupants of one apartment, making it was much more claustrophobic and involving than other perhaps more celebrated examples in the genre, for example 'War Of The Worlds' or 'Independence Day' both of which are enjoyable films but Skyline just seemed more immediate & realistic. The CGI special effects and alien 'imagineering' are superb and the violence, when it came, was fast and brutal, again making the experience much more believable than big blockbuster Hollywood fare. The alien space ship interior at the end was ingenious and Donald Faison is great. He should be in more movies. Really engaging screen persona.

On Metacritic no-one can hear you scream - THIS IS RUBBISH! Film fans be warned - this is an overblown, pretentious, boring, mess of a movie. A real let down for fans of Alien 1 or 2. The b-movie style jump scares were boring, the characters were boring (with the exception of the captain) there was precious little of the nuance or tension of Alien 1 or the exciting action of Alien 2. This looked nice but the story was pants. The hologram flash back device ****.

I love Will Ferrell but this movie was awful. Full of painfully unfunny ad libbing, it reminded me of the truly terrible Semi-Pro . I really do like Ferrell's ad-libs normally - it's what makes him so great, but this movie seemed to have no structured script whatsoever. I am amazed none of the critics gave negative reviews. The sizable number of mixed and negative user reviews tell a truer story. Oh, and Steve Coogan's ticket joke was nicked out of Smack The Pony.
