She-Ra and the Princesses of Power8
May 19, 2019
She-Ra is exactly the kind of upbeat, beat-em-up cartoon that I was looking for. The characters take some getting used to, but I found myself actually laughing out loud at some of the dialogue and the animation style lead itself to just the right amount of rainbows. My only concern is how Season 2 seems to end more at a mid-season point than a proper season finale, which makes me wonder what is happening on the production side.

Everything Sucks!: Season 18
Apr 20, 2019
Everything ****! was a charming look at those sweet, yet awkward teen years during that specific period in the mid-90's when everything felt like it would be that way forever. I think it is lovely to see a teen show that is a lot more like the memories that still haunt me to this day. The mid-90's setting was well done and the acting got better with each episode. The inclusion of a young girl realizing she may be gay was also wonderful to watch and appropriately handled. I would have liked to see the story expand into a second season, just because of how much I was charmed by the characters, but all's well that ends well.

The Crown: Season 18
Apr 20, 2019
The Crown is beautiful, plain and simple. The acting always felt on point and the way the show is produced reminds me of a big budget film going for the Oscar.

Wynonna Earp: Season 19
Apr 20, 2019
I really enjoyed how Wynonna Earp focused on being a character driven story in an interesting western supernatural world without being historical or super male-dominated. The acting is great, the story is creative, and I was drawn in to seeing how it would all go down.

She's Gotta Have It (2017): Season 18
Apr 20, 2019
I found season one of She's Gotta Have It to have some fantastic character driven story telling. I felt pulled into Nola's world and loved seeing a female character really dictating her own story within the narrative.

Carmen Sandiego: Season 19
Apr 20, 2019
Carmen Sandiego has an visually interesting animation style, a strong narrative, and engaging characters that had me remembering the good old days of my Kim Possible childhood. I think the pacing could have used some work, but I was drawn in by the story in a way that I haven't been with some of Netflix's other animation ventures. At just 9 episodes, season one is definitely worth a watch.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: Season 29
Apr 20, 2019
I was surprised that I actually enjoyed season two more than season one. I loved all the new characters they introduced and having an established cast meant they could focus more on building on their relationships rather than trying to define who they are during all the what-the-hell-is-happening plot.

The End of the F***ing World: Season 14
Apr 20, 2019
The End of the F***ing World is well acted and well produced, but just not my thing. After watching all of season one, I am curious how they plan on continuing the story as I know a season two is in the works, but I don't know if I am interested enough to actually watch. I was not charmed by the off-putting, sort of nihilistic vibe the show has and personally require a lot more sugar to help the medicine go down.

Special: Season 19
Apr 20, 2019
Special is short and sweet with characters that I instantly fell in love with. At just 8 episodes, it was super quick to watch. The show gives me "Please Like Me" vibes with a touch more sitcom influence. One of my only issues is that the pacing needed some work. I think the season could would have benefited from being longer. Figures crossed they get a season two because there is a lot of potential here.

Russian Doll: Season 19
Apr 20, 2019
Russian Doll is a surprisingly interesting take on the groundhog day trope that gives us the existential crisis we all deserve. The plot a lot more life affirming than I expected it to be and Charlie Barnett as Alan seriously knocked it out of the park. For such a short series, it is worth the binge watch.

Forever (2014): Season 18
Apr 15, 2017
I think that Forever had a really interesting concept, but that the scope of the show was just too limited. I thoroughly enjoyed Ioan Gruffudd as a leading man and found the whole show to be incredibly watchable.

Seed: Season 18
Apr 15, 2017
The show is great because it highlights the diversity of modern day families and the interesting ways that families can function. It has a similar tone to some early 2000's sitcoms like Reba, with a lesson of the day kind of vibe. The show often dives head first into the silly, borderline slapstick, comedy, but also has a romcom style throughout. Seed has a simple premise with a lot of promise, a not-a-family man sperm donor becomes a part of two unique families after the children he (unknowingly) helped produce pull him into their lives, with a potential third child on the way things are complicated. I wish it had a third season.

Galavant: Season 17
Apr 15, 2017
Although I do think the show suffered from narrative issues, especially in season one, Galavant was a surprisingly ambitious concept that worked a lot more than it didn't. The song and dance of the series was impressive and the actors seemed game for anything. I feel Season 2 was a lot more cohesive than season one, but overall the show was still incredibly enjoyable. Even if just for the novelty of it, the show was fun. Also, Joshua Sasse has a very handsome face. I will probably watch everything he does from now on.

CSI: Cyber: Season 15
Apr 15, 2017
After watching years of various CSI interactions CSI: Cyber seemed to be the logical next step for the franchise. Within the format however, it faced obvious limitations. I think it's because the CSI standard treatment has run its course. Although the plots were generally workable, the writing didn't give the actors much to work with. Overall, it was still watchable and at times enjoyable, but it never reached the right balance it needed to be good.

Friends: Season 110
Sep 14, 2015
Talk about cultural touchstones and you have to talk about Friends! This show is the reason I feel in love with television and I feel like I'm not alone in that. We still reference the jokes and we still care about the characters. Even though Friends premiered the year I was born and ended over 10 years ago it is still a major influence on the sitcom genre. It's standing the test of time and as a fan I am very happy for that.

How I Met Your Mother: Season 17
Sep 14, 2015
How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) is a bit of a roller coaster when it comes to quality, especially in the later seasons, but overall it was still a worth while and funny show. This review is going to be tinged with disappointment because of how it all ended, but I loved the show, which is why I still rate and regard it highly. The jokes were funny, the plot was interesting, and the acting was fantastic. I came to really care about the characters and I became really invested in finding out who would be the mother. However, I wasn't a fan of the S9 series finale and I wasn't a fan of how long the show remained on the air. The longer it went on the more it felt like the writers had lost the plot. By the end it was almost painful to watch. HIMYM just didn't stick the landing.

Cold Case: Season 19
Sep 13, 2015
Cold Case had that rare combination of both quality and quantity in an episodic show. Some of the episodes were put together so well that it felt like I was watching a short film. The flashbacks often had amazing actors, interesting set designs, and perfectly period costumes. I watched all seven seasons and although not every single episode was a winner there are plenty that I still think back on as truly outstanding television. My personal favourite episode was season 2, episode 22 "Best Friends".

Reaper: Season 18
Aug 8, 2015
Reaper took eternal damnation and made it funny. Although it was far from a masterpiece, (and often went around in circles when it came to any sort of long arc), each and every individual episode had something that I loved about it. Also, as far as I'm concerned, Ray Wise really is the devil and no one can tell me otherwise.

Pushing Daisies: Season 110
Aug 8, 2015
Whimsy is something you don't often find on television. It's not exactly a crowd pleaser especially when so many of us gravitate towards television featuring darker, bolder, flawed anti-heros in dystopian worlds. Pushing Daisies doesn't care. Keep your brooding, it says, I'm going to be a show about death and murder and pies and you can't **** stop me. I loved every single second of this show. So much so that even just thinking about it now makes me want to go back and watch it again.

Dead Like Me: Season 19
Aug 8, 2015
Dead Like Me was one of the first shows that I watched that showed me that tv really could be a vehicle for interesting and complex stories. It just takes the right person to do it and this show was full of a lot of those people. The story arcs were so original that I'm surprised it lasted for two seasons. This is the sort of thing that I imagine now would thrive in a Netflix like utopia. I would definitely recommend it for it's interesting take on death and the dry cynical wit. Beyond anything else it is memorable.

Blood Ties: Season 17
Aug 8, 2015
Blood Ties was by no means a perfect show, but I think it tackled the changing face of the vampire sub-genre in an interesting way by combining it with classic crime drama tropes. Adapted from a book series it had plenty of material to draw from and the casting was perfect. The only thing that let this show down was the fact that it was just a little too early to get a seat on the lucrative vampire bandwagon. Had it been made a few year later it might still be on the air today.

Being Erica: Season 19
Aug 8, 2015
Being Erica is easy to summarize: time travel meets romcom. Erica gets to live out everyone's fantasy of being able to go back in time knowing what you know now in order to change things for the better and it makes one hell of an interesting show. Being Erica is one of the many Canadian tv shows that I champion as showing just what were capable of when left to our own devices. There is nothing else quite like it!!

Women's Murder Club: Season 17
Aug 7, 2015
This show had so much potential that it disappoints me to this day that it didn't get more episodes. The casting was incredibly perfect and the show had a lot of opportunities to develop interesting storylines. I wanted more time to develop a connection with each character and see what sort of mysteries would come from the series. Although it was not by any means a faithful adaptation from what I remember of the series it is worth checking out as a stand alone. However, it is a pity they decided to end it with a cliffhanger that will never see completion.

Backstrom: Season 18
Aug 7, 2015
Backstrom was messy and uneven, but that was a big part of what made it so interesting to watch. This show was all about character driven mysteries without being overly buffed and shiny. I think if Backstrom had been given time to mature it would have taken the genre by storm.

Common Law: Season 17
Jan 17, 2014
There's nothing I love more than a good bromance and Common Law delivers it within moments of having these two boys on screen. It's a shame the series was cut short with only one season, but short and sweet is better than nothing. The ending was understandably rushed, but up till that point the pace and story were great. I can't gush enough about the characters! The acting was fantastic and the dynamic was so good I couldn't quit smiling.

100 Questions: Season 11
Jan 16, 2014
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but my god was this a flop! The worst thing is I get what they were going for and in better hands this concept may have done something passable. The only good thing I have to say about the show is that I want to touch David Walton's face. He needs to get cast as the lead in something I can watch for seasons upon seasons so I can properly drool over him.

10 Things I Hate About You: Season 15
Jan 16, 2014
I feel like the show never really lived up to its potential. Although I loved the casting and character acting, the episode-to-episode storytelling was lack luster and just could hold the weight of the original concept of the movie. I think it was good for what it was and can commend it for what it was trying to accomplish as a more lighthearted romance TV show for teens, but it needed to try harder.

6teen: Season 19
Jan 16, 2014
6teen is a coming of age cartoon that follows six friends, three boys and three girls, as they encounter the many dips and dives of being a teenager and growing up. 6teen is all about their friendship as each in their own way is trying to hold a job, go on dates, and deal with their school work and family. I would definitely compare this to a teenage cartoon version of Friends. Although the events are very relatable, it's all done with a lot of humor and wit. The storytelling was always top notch and the characters were incredibly charming. Part of me will always think that this should be part of a starter kit for teendom.
