Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days

-- [THE GOOD] -- - Good voice acting (apart from Glazer's stereotypical "cor blimey, mate" English accent) - The handheld camera idea produces a decent platform of immersion - The beginning of the 'naked' level is gruesome! - All forms of the colourful lighting look banging! -- [THE BAD] -- - Crap graphics; poor character models, textures and environments. Pretty much everything is graphically poor - Controlling the character is a bit iffy and annoying - The cover system is utter **** - Poor A.I. - Delayed sound when a lot is happening on screen - Serious framerate issues when explosions occur - Haven't we seen this stuff many, many, many times before? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Ohhhhh **** dear, Kane & Lynch. Look, I never had much hope in this game being even remotely good in the first place, but I thought they'd have at least hired a team of semi-skilled developers instead of four blind Sixth World country inhabitants slapping at a keyboard for twenty two hours a day without food or water. **** hell... Okay, I'm really starting to wonder if OXM were being sarcastic giving this splat of slow-roasted pig **** a nine out of ten and deeming it a "lovingly crafted, full-bodied shooter." I'm also starting to wonder whether the handheld camera idea was just a sly way of covering up the poor graphics and very frequent visual screw-ups, such as jittery enemies and, more specifically, an invisible Kane holding a cigarette at the beginning of the "Laying Low" mission, in which they were most definitely not laying low as yet another wild gun battle ensues not long into the opening of the mission. Speaking of which, this game is yet another disgusting bottle of perfume using the same formula: running, encountering enemies, fighting them and then moving on to repeat the process not even a minute later... -- [THE GOOD] -- - Stephen Merchant as Wheatley is an absolute masterstroke - A consistently brilliant, tightly crafted campaign with some of the funniest lines of dialogue you will experience in a game for a long, long, long time - Banging co-op campaign - Mobility Gels add a whole new dimension to the puzzles -- [THE BAD] -- - The, uhh... poor subtitle grammar offends me at times. **** it, it's forgiven (Graphics) - [8] - In terms of visual quality, it's identical to Portal, but that's not a bad thing as Portal's graphics were smooth, clean cut and beautifully sterile - to fit with the theme of the evil Aperture Science facility, of course - and so it's no surprise that this exact formula was brought in for a second round, only now the facility is in a state of decay since Chell's last battle with GLaDOS and so our vision of what was once Aperture Science is thrown sideways as we awake in a seemingly brand new place with overgrown weeds poking through every available orifice and the sort of run-down factory setting that only Bear Grylls would spend the night in. As the game progresses, however, some familiar environments return in a very exciting and welcome way, as well as a sweet, sweet, sweet surprise that might throw some of you too. There's something about the look of the gels that makes them seem so textured that you can just 'feel' them in your hands by looking at them. ...Just me?... --[THE GOOD]-- The unlockable extras are pretty cool - Some exciting firefights -- [THE BAD] -- - ...but utterly awful boss battles - Ugly visuals plagued with slow loading textures and frame rate drops - Poor voice acting and immature, high school jock-like dialogue - Loading screen after loading screen after **** loading screen! - 'Mini Duke' sections are plain **** completely dull and infuriating - The multiplayer is everything that the word 'crap' stands for (GRAPHICS) - [3] - The graphics are a messy affair. They absolutely scream the fact that they went through three different console generations before finally settling on the current seventh generation, though they most definitely don't live up to it and there are some pretty blinding signs of older generation graphical remnants. The visuals are ugly enough, but just when you thought it could only get better it gets worse; unforgivable slow-loading textures and frequent frame rate drops plague each and every level and there are many instances where an object catches your eye and all that comes to mind is 'seriously...?'. One of the worst levels for technical fudge-ups is "The Mighty Foot", which sees Duke rollin' in a monster truck ('cos he's mega tough, of course) amidst a flurry of enemies falling through the ground, seconds-long frame rate drops and objects randomly flinging themselves around the place. You have to admire the developers' confidence that the graphics could actually be passed off as acceptable. HA!... --[THE GOOD]-- - The dream world is a thing of beauty, wonder, and absolute insanity - Simple and awesome point-and-click gameplay - Visually pleasing - Beautiful, charming soundtrack - Fantastic mini games --[THE BAD]-- - Pixel hunting is maybe a bit too prevalent (Graphics) - [9] - The key graphical formula in Axel & Pixel is that of simple, hand-drawn cartoon characters against beautifully rendered real-life environments of the four seasons, each with their own special feel, with Spring featuring very subtle colours and a looming tone of that after-Winter feeling, while Winter itself is covered in soft-on-the-eyes whites, light blues and greys, with a strong emphasis on ice itself. It's definitely the most visually pleasing of the four seasons and there's an inescapable feeling of comfort and warmth along with it. In fact, the whole darn place is extremely pretty indeed. Each and every morsel of the dream world has a bit of life, magic and depth to it; some of the stuff around you has absolutely no significance to the game itself â
