Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition9
Dec 5, 2021
I gave this game a 9/10 before, and this update is much of the same. Still amazing in its world building, world design, platforming, NPC interaction, setpieces and story. Still mediocre in its soundtrack, but at least there are less bugs now. I'd still recommend it at any price.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about! This game takes the ball that Super Metroid dropped in its second half and runs with it, combining the mechanics of every other 2D game to create the best controlling Samus in the whole series. It's that good! The world design leads you around splendidly and the backgrounds are always filled with neat details. The bosses are always challenging, and a little unfair at times, but that always makes then satisfying to beat (when they don't throw repeat boss encounters at you). The enemy design is fresh, the story is a fascinating continuation of Fusion's themes and the pace almost never slows down in the wrong places. Seems like a 10/10, right? Well, note how I said 'almost' in terms of pacing. Yeah, the game slows down its brisk pace in the middle after a very important plot development. It does pick the ball back up again after another plot development. I also kind of wish the E.M.M.I. were used more effectively. I mean, their a great addition to the game, and Dead would definitely be lesser without them, but after the first playthrough, they lose their 'dread', and while you can still get tense scenarios, its a shame that the E.M.M.I. don't adapt all that well to your steadily increasing movement capabilities. Also the music is mostly forgettable, although I do like how little of it remixes past themes. But this is definitely my favourite Switch game since 2018.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond3
Nov 21, 2021
I did not buy this game. If that spoils this review for you, stop reading, because this review is not about the quality of this game. This review is about Pokemon. The largest franchise in the world. And it puts out something like this. This game has nothing new to add, and everyone knows this. The negative reviews complain about the lack of new features, the positive ones enjoy the return of the old stuff. But nothing new. This is a failure to innovate, from the franchise which should be out there making risks, because it is too big to fail. But instead they make a game that probably could run on the Gamecube with some optimisation, that does not expand upon the original in the ways the other remakes did, that doesn't even match the presentation effort of the originals despite the Pokemon franchise's indefinite growth. This isn't a review of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, because I am not buying this game. This is a review of the Pokemon Company, that has refused to live up the reputation of the biggest media franchise. Play the games that do live up to that label. Play the games that try and fail to live up to that label, because it is better to support a game like that, than support a game that is not trying at all.

I'm going to balance out all the positive reviews here with an honest one. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR YOURSELF! This game is laughably unfinished in all ways. It's only function is as a gag gift, and there are better gag gifts out there.

This game is good when playing on your own, but playing with others, even randoms, elevates this into amazing territory. The main problem is that you need really good connections for a reliable experience. But otherwise, its the best survival game around.

Sonic the Hedgehog 26
Sep 4, 2021
This is a really good remaster **** that is just fine. It's not as big of an improvement over Sonic 1 as most people say. By all means, the level design has not improved, which is the most essential part in a platformer so based on its physics.

A really good remaster of a pretty mediocre game. The gameplay basics are good, but everything else is severely mediocre. Make of it what you will, but I don't recommend it.

This game is impressively ahead of its time. It's still a ~20 old game without any remasters or remakes though. I'd recommend getting AIR for the best experience. Soundtrack 9/10, Gameplay 8/10, aesthetics 7/10.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee6
Sep 4, 2021
This is the worst Oddworld game in my opinion. It abandons a lot of what was great and unique about the series and what OWI replaces it with is not that good. It fails at achieving the atmosphere and precise platforming of the PS1 games and doesn't succeed at creating an interesting 3D platformer. But when this game gets it right, it really gets it right. Commanding Mudokons and fuzzles around is always a blast, the puzzles can often be very interesting and the partner mechanics is done better than most.

Half-Life 28
Aug 29, 2021
This game has aged spectacularly. It still looks like an optimised PS3 game, especially with the free HL2: Update mod. The world of Sector 17 is one of the most unique and interesting dystopias around and the moment to moment gameplay is excellent with the weapons feeling just right. Seems like 10/10, right? Well, the game suffers from spending too much time in single places. While there are lots of different and interesting areas, you end up spending too long in each of them, which leads to half of the chapters feeling like a drag. The gun selection isn't as good as in Half-Life 1 despite the better balance and handling and the soundtrack only has two or so stand-outs.

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus9
Aug 26, 2021
This is a huge improvement over Oddysee. I think this might be one of the greatest leaps of quality directly from original to sequel I've ever played. The backgrounds are more varied, the gameplay is more tight and fair, and the soundtrack has both atmospheric tracks and genuine bangers. The iteration time has been count down significantly thanks to the introduction of Quiksave, the puzzles are less tedious and far more interesting thanks to the more advanced Gamespeak. This game is amazing, and a certain classic that holds up today, unlike Oddysee.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee6
Aug 26, 2021
This game is a pioneer and a classic. But it has severe problems that every other Oddworld game, including Munch's Oddysee, solves. The main one is the poor difficulty balance. The checkpoints are too sparse given the difficult platforming, which leads to very high iteration times. The backgrounds aren't as interesting as everything but the Xbox games; they feel too similar too each other, especially in RuptureFarms. Eventually you just get sick of ventilation pipes and barrels. The gameplay isn't as refined as the others. All I'm really saying here is that this FEELS like the first game in the series. Play New 'n' Tasty, it's better in every way except for some of the lighting.

Pokemon Sword5

This game was inevitable. A franchise whose growth is this this independent from its quality was destined get a game that squanders its potential and sells its soul to the infants. I am not a Pokemon fan. Judging by this game, I never will be. That might have had something to do with the fact that if you don't get into Pokemon between the ages of 9 and 14, you almost never will. But I think it might have been due to the fact that a game like this was doomed to have happened ever since gen IV. Most of Pokemon's revenue comes from merchandise. Theoretically, all the Pokemon company needs to do is released a half-assed game every four years with a batch of new Pokemon designs. Can you tell where I am going with this? This game is not bad. But it is clear that Pokemon is now too big for quality. When the company can tell bald-faced lies and fail to update on a 20 year old formula and still create a best seller, it is clear that any hopes for this series are in the gutter.

Black Mesa9
Aug 24, 2021
This game started development in 2006. It took almost 1.5 decades to get its official 1.0 release. And you can tell. You can really tell. The game combines the best parts of Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 and mixes in a healthy amount of its own ideas to create, in my opinion, the best Half-Life game yet. Combining the superior weaponry, enemy design and location design of Half-Life with the superior AI, world detail and world design of Half-Life 2 would already produce a great game, but the additions of improved Xen and vastly superior soundtrack make this a sure-fire purchase... as long as you have a good enough PC. Almost certainly the swan song for the Source engine.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition9
Aug 24, 2021
Yep, this game is really good. The level design, the art direction, the soundtrack is all top notch. The story is simple, but still affective. The combat is boring, not through a lack of attacks, but through a lack of enemy variety. Astonishingly good for a studio's first game, and elevated by its sequel, I'd say it's a must have, if only because the sequel is a must have and the sequel gets so much better if you've played this one.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'n' Tasty9
Aug 24, 2021
This is a really good game. Whether it's a good remake is based on your tastes. If you want a one-to-one in design, controls and aesthetics, you might be disappointed. But I'm not the biggest fan of the way Abe's Oddysee did those three elements, so I consider this as an improvement. It's the same great (if somewhat simple) story, the world design is amazing, the controls are the best you can get out of a control stick in a 2D axis and the gameplay mechanics are as great as they ever have been. My main problem comes from the lighting. I'm fine with it when in outdoor areas, as the bright lighting allows for really striking shadows, but some of the indoors areas are too brightly lit. Even still, the game's definitely worth it, especially at the price Steam sells it for. Oh, and it has a pretty killer DLC.

This game is good and that's about it. This game does not build upon the Banjo-Kazooie formula as much as it just makes a new game using alterations to the games' mechanics. The benefit of this is that the game is still a very fun collectathon platformer. The downside is that this isn't all too much better than Banjo-Kazooie. Still a fun time for fans of the genre, but not worth full price. Get it on discount.

Two Point Hospital7
Aug 21, 2021
This game is good. It's a nice, silly, some-what cynical hospital builder where you buy strange contraption for curing strange illnesses and yet the humans are somehow even odder. What makes the game for me is the radio. The music is great BGM and the in-universe adverts can be funny, but the occasional interruptions from the cynical and paranoid Harrison Wolf, the posh and proud Nigel Bickleworth or the upbeat and optimistic Ricky Hawthorne makes the somewhat tedious job of managing customer, employee and ethical complaints far more enjoyable. A good buy if you like this genre, but it doesn't do much to branch out to those who don't.

This game is... fine, really. If you like this kind of puzzle game, then it'll be really good. If you are like me, then you might not even be convinced to finish it. It's a lot like Portal in many ways: a puzzler in which you complete a series of room with challenges based around altering a fundamental law of the universe. Unlike Portal, it has much less universal appeal. You are forced to disobey your GLaDOS figure several times, and it isn't anywhere close to as fun to here him get angry as it is to hear GLaDOS be angry. To be honest, you might have a better time just playing the extremely generous demo.

I wish I could say this was the best game I had ever played. Unfortunately there just a few to many rough edges for me to say that in full confidence. In short: Pros: Beautiful graphical fidelity and aesthetics Really fun stealth Interesting story Well structured level design Amazing cut-scenes Surprisingly interesting friendly NPC interaction Satisfying enemy NPC interaction Cons: Pretty bland soundtrack (shame considering the composer's work on the PS1 games) Somewhat wonky controls Crafting system isn't all too refined Some pretty shameful glitches 85/100, can't wait to see how the Quintology continues. An absolute buy when on sale and still good value at base price.

Hollow Knight8
Aug 21, 2021
This game is really good. But it's not perfect. Might I even say, it's a bit overrated? The main problem I have with this game is how directionless you feel while exploring. Some people like the feeling of being utterly lost. I don't like how the game fails to give you sufficient motivation for huge chunks of the play time. You don't even know what your goal is for a good 4--6 hours, and even once the goal is revealed to you, the actual way there is not well indicated. The game actually has a really interesting lore and story, but you aren't privy to that knowledge until you've almost finished your first playthrough. This makes the endgame even more fun than in your standard Metroidvainia, but it leaves your first playthrough with a lot to be desired. Another problem is your movement. You get THREE basic movement upgrades above walking and jumping. This means the platforming falls by the wayside; it never gets good. The deep combat is instead the focus, while is great, don't get me wrong, but when enemies become easy and their rewards become minimal, it's revealed how boring traversal is. My final issue with the game is the area design. At least four different areas have the same 'barren, black rock' aesthetic and the music doesn't do a good job of distinguishing them either. After all that, you wander why I gave this an 8/10. It's because, other than my main issues and some rather petty nitpicks, everything is amazing. When the music actually decides to pick up, it picks up hard. The combat mechanics, coupled with the variety of enemies, is always challenging and engaging. As previously stated, the lore and story is really good when it gets going and will keep you hooked even after the credits have rolled for each of the five separate endings. The character enemy, and (some of) the area designs are well done as well. This game deserves most of the praise it has received, but be aware that it is not the genre defining perfection that it often cited as.

It's good. Not much more than that though. The controls are good but the game could definitely work without them so making them mandatory was kind of a dull idea. The story is just StarFox 64 with extra spice. The gameplay is varied and interesting. The soundtrack is the best in the series. The graphic design is about the best you could ask for given the subject matter. It is still a re-tread of the LaylatWars story line again though. It is far from hateable, but the only thing that makes it stand out isn't all that good.

It's fine, but i don't recommend playing it. Enjoyed it on my first playthrough, couldn't even finish it on my second. The art design and writings good, but otherwise there's just nothing here. I'm not a big fan of RPGs, and this doesn't even do that well. Better experienced by watching a longplay than actually playing it, but, it's far from offensive.

I think this might be the best game I've ever played. Is the story a bit simple? Yes. Is the soundtrack not as good as Blind Forest? Yes, but only by a little. Is ground movement still a little too slippery? Yes. Is the world building a little scuffed? Yes. But these are my main problems with this game, and those are nit-picks! The movement is the most satisfying I've ever seen, the art design is so full of colour and style, the world design is elegant and interesting, the combat is varied and challenging, the soundtrack is beyond beautiful and the ending is made out of pure catharsis. And the most amazing part? It elevates its predecessor through expansion of gameplay mechanics and continuation of themes. Play Ori and the Blind Forest, then play this game. It's more that worth it.
