Great atmosphere. Genuinely scary. Balances being both defenseless and formidable.

Overall a pretty good horror game, but not as replayable as I was hoping because of some annoying areas (the ending of Part 3 in particular). Parts 1, 2, most of 3, and 4 are the most enjoyable for me. The combat is far more serviceable than some people are complaining about. I actually enjoyed it, despite the game punishing you for engaging with it in the ending cutscene (silly choice by devs). Sound design is incredible. The way it builds dread and changes when an enemy is close or spots you is so well done. I love that the game doesn't hold your hand or assist you when stuck. More games need to get back to this style, but some choices were just insane to me. Overall, I enjoyed this and thought the puzzles were great. They're difficult and engaging without being impossible, aside from the control room symbol nonsense in Part 6 - the only time I broke and googled. I think many people will find them to be obtuse, though, and I get it. Glad I played.

Not to overreact, but this might be the greatest game of all time. The detail in it is absolutely incredible. Writing is amazing. Wow.

Alien: Isolation6

It genuinely astonishes me that this game is so highly regarded. I'm a huge fan of Survival Horror AND the 'Alien' franchise, and after finishing this game last night, I'm comfortable saying that this is the most frustrating and least replayable that I've ever experienced. It's not garbage by any means. It does a beautiful job of capturing the world of 'Alien', but some of the design choices are completely mindblowing. People say the late game overstays its welcome. I don't even agree with that. The final missions are of the same quality as early ones and they take you to some cool places. It just executes in such a ridiculously frustrating way. I could go on and on, but one thing that stood out is the fact that Amanda Ripley had no sense of urgency on a ship with a murderous alien. Every action is SOOOO slow. She's a meandering putz. Mission 6 was awful for me. It felt glitched even. Mission 10 is complete dragged out nonsense - the longest in the game. Mission 16's end is literally pushing the left stick forward and making a 20 minute walk. 17 isn't as bad as some claim, but can be incredibly annoying as well. It's not even close to the scariest game I've played, either. It's talked about as the scariest Survival Horror. It's not. After 5 deaths, the alien just feels more annoying than frightening, and you start to notice the poor design choices. Some of the things you do in it SO obviously should have just been cutscenes. It's a glaringly flawed game that does some cool stuff, and I'll never touch it again. Easiest 6 I'll ever give.
