Overall, this move is a real mess, and it is certainly interesting that there were enough professional critics willing to rate it so highly. What's that all about? The actors are all excellent, but in previous work, not in this one. They all seem at a loss to deliver anything believable here. The script is weak and the direction is poor. While there are some interesting isolated shots and sets created, nothing gels in this film and it feels like it was abandoned half way through the production. Also, at almost 3.5 hours, it would be interesting to see what a good editor might be able to do with this. I would say that it could have easily been cut down to nearly 2 hours. We started watching this quite excited to see a great movie (based on so many high ratings by the "critics.") We welcome longer movies when they are done well. But this one ended up being painful to try to get through, and we were very disappointed. I was heartened to see the User Scores here reflecting a more accurate reading of this film, and going forward, I think it will be the Users that I will only follow and trust. Thanks to Metacritic for showing these two side by side.

Awful. Any attempts at humor or commentary on the wealth divide are dealt with in sophomoric and simple-obvious manners. Woody Harrelson calls it in and exits quick enough to earn another month's mortgage. The rest of the cast do not deserve this gimmicky script. Yet the Academy liked it enough for a nomination? And we wonder why the A. Awards are so banal and absurd now. Don't fall for the paid-reviews on this stinker.
