Supergirl (2015): Season 2

Hmm... upon seeing the end of s02e19, it struck me: police brutality, vigilante justice, secret black site prisons, indefinite detention, torture, people 'disappeared', a complete absence of habeas corpus and anything resembling due process - and this from the 'good guys'. So along with its complete failure to entertain me, it is also a moral failure bizarrely masquerading as a shining beacon. When Batman and Punisher are 'bad', at least you know what you are seeing - lone thugs run amuck, and the extreme honesty of the newer versions make them that much better. But this Supergirl, it's basically fascist, and exactly like the fascists in real life, it has the same sanctimonious tone - beating the drums of 'moral virtue' while peddling total evil. Dishonest art is bad art... that is the essence of this show's failing. This show really pains me because I loved the Supergirl movie, which is why I kept trying to get something from this series. Smallville at least had some heart. But this new wave (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl) is hopeless. And for a self-declared feminist show, why are the female characters so weak? They keep introducing strong male characters for them to lean on and take orders from. Alura may have been the show's best character: an actual strong female character (and even that they watered down by having her husband running things), morally ambiguous and unpredictable (i.e. not one dimensional)... but they couldn't have that now could they? And am I the only one that cringes every time I hear that Kara's purpose in life was apparently just to take care of her male cousin? How are they not embarrassed to have that in the opening every episode?

I stopped watching a few times but then gave it a chance again... I think this time is the end for real. The show has become a chore to watch - forced, no spark, everyone likable dead, acting wooden, writing hackneyed, characters stupid beyond believability, all relationships severed one way or another (I bet they kill off the girl with the claw), and yet it fails to be actually feel dark because it doesn't feel real. It was always bad... I was just hoping it would get better. Even the fake grounder language is bad - I can understand most of it. Maybe that was the point since 3 generations isn't enough to destroy English, but in that case the grounders shouldn't be so primal and should have a culture derived from our culture, evolved from various North American factions - hillbillies, drug gangs, etc... since the non-grounders clearly share current North American culture. It doesn't feel well thought out.

Inauthentic soap-opera trash - Vikings were democratic. I had so much hope from this, mostly from the starting theme song, but alas the starting theme is the only thing good about it. The History channel fails at everything. I also like that they only cast actual Scandinavians as the bad guys and Anglo-saxons for the characters meant to be liked. I was also amused by the French accents and stereotypes.

Glorious! It just keeps getting better and better. The multi-dimensional depth, breadth, range, and sophistication pushes the bounds of humanity. I knew this was going to be something special right at the beginning of the first season when the show educated me that pirates were democratic. For anyone that doesn't understand the 'high' aspect of the show: Rome began as brigands.

I'm shocked how good this was... and how bad the current batch of soap-opera super-hero shows are that I stopped watching after a few episodes each. And of course this was canceled after 1 season... but the various trash shows go on indefinitely.

Netflix delivers some crazy **** again. This is really impressive. I like that they don't seem bound by mundane formulaic past success like unwatchable mainstream TV (excluding premium channels).

Unwatchable... neither fish nor fowl. Half a fluff documentary and half a fluff miniseries put together. They have no content and instead fill the time with fake grandness.

Thank God they renewed it and didn't leave us permanently hanging. More character action space opera than sci-fi, but enough sci-fi delivered every now and then to be interesting. It's possible I am too blinded by the glory of Two to be objective, but in that case the show still delivers.

Way better than the movie and it just keeps on getting better. A roller coaster of originality and surprises. Flawless casting. And flawed human characters I can both believe and get invested in.

It had a few good seasons, but they've run out of inspiration. But it's still making money as a supernatural soap opera, so it continues with whatever hack stories they can throw at it.

I was afraid the show had run out of steam... not yet! Episode 4 delivers! I actually shed tears of epicness! I'm impressed with the moral depth and sophistication of the show, and that it can supply so many layers to keep a full range of people entertained.

Very shallow and pointless story with jokey dialog. There is a market for this kind of thing, but their tastes are more conventional and probably aren't into the girl power thing. It's why the WNBA isn't popular. 2 points for the hot girl power lead (and deputy), 0 for everything else. Maybe I'll watch episode 3.

Greatness! Finally! Utterly Inspired! Dark and menacing! Frighteningly Deep! Perhaps making long story arc TV series out of books is a good recipe. Where the books were written without the risk aversion (and accompanying lowest common denominator aim) of big budget movies or the short attention span that goes with movie time limits, truly great stories can rise in the less constrained environment. And for TV format a whole season is still cheaper than a movie, and ideas can be tested with a cheap pilot and limited first season. And no expensive big name actors are needed to recoup the massive movie budget. So less risk = more experimenting = more creative. And so we get this shining gem of a show.

From bad to worse, I'm not going to watch anymore. The show is fluff and lies, it's embarrassing that it's on the "History Channel". By fluff I mean pointless things that have no meaning but fill the time. By lies I mean the deliberate misrepresentation of that world - read the sagas, they ELECTED kings! There is no attempt whatsoever at authenticity. And I find it extremely peculiar that the only Scandinavian actors are cast as villains. Rome and Black Sails show that authenticity can be achieved even while taking unlimited creative license, but Viking completely fails - it conveys nothing. Black Sails isn't even historical yet captures the world it is based on flawlessly. Tudors shows Hirst is capable of better, so my only conclusion is that his prejudices were incompatible with telling this story honestly.

More vapid trash... watched a few episodes to give it a chance, will not watch anymore. The show is profoundly emotionally and intellectually stunted... which means it will probably do great and last many seasons as the multitudes that want to be numbed tune in.

The awesomeness continues. Only thing bad is I have to wait a week between episodes when I want to gorge myself on Game of Thrones. Season 4 Episode 8 - I can't believe all of that just happened, Game of Thrones delivers again... and I was really starting to like that guy.

Unwatchable show trying to leach the success of Black Sails. Where Black Sails attempts authenticity, this has hip looking people forcing cheerfulness during battles and people with modern trendy hairdos pursuing a sci-fi 'MacGuffin'. The show actually has techno-babble... in a pirate show! I can't believe how bad this is. Some marketeers thought they could cash in and no doubt thought spending serious money on Malkovich would cinch it. It even has an Eleanor knock off that looks and acts a lot like her. I cringe.
